The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was Chrysler's entry into the crossover SUV market. Its body style blended aspects of a minivan, SUV, and station wagon. Model years stretched from 2004-2008. Key trims included Base, Touring, and Limited. New pricing ranged from roughly $27,000 to $37,000. The Bad

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica's weaknesses include below-average reliability, especially with early model years. Watch out for transmission issues, electrical problems, and rust. Fuel economy is also not a strong point. Repair costs can be high due to the complexity of some systems.

What Problems Does the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica Have?

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica has several frequently reported problems and long-term reliability concerns. Transmission issues are common, including harsh shifting, slipping, and complete failure. Electrical problems, such as malfunctioning power windows, door locks, and issues with the onboard computer, are also frequently reported. Premature wear of suspension components, including ball joints and tie rod ends, is another common concern.
Rust can be a problem, especially in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Recalls have been issued for various issues, including problems with the fuel system and electrical components. Long-term reliability is generally considered below average compared to its competitors.
Early model years (2004-2005) tend to have more reported issues than later years (2006-2008), although problems persist throughout the model run. Owners often report high repair costs due to the complexity of the vehicle's systems. Keeping up with regular maintenance is crucial, but even well-maintained Pacificas can experience significant problems over time. It's important to check the vehicle's history report for any prior accidents or repairs before purchasing a used model.

How long will the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica last?

With proper maintenance, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 15-20 years of service. However, due to reliability issues, many don't reach these milestones without significant repairs. Long-term durability is a weakness. Transmission problems, electrical faults, and rust are primary concerns affecting longevity. Consistent maintenance, including fluid changes and addressing minor issues promptly, is crucial for maximizing lifespan, but even with excellent care, major repairs are likely as the vehicle ages.

Perfect for all my family’s needs. Heated seats in front and middle rows. Very comfortable. Drives great so far in the snow. Seems to be good on gas. We are very happy with it.

This SUV fit my needs and is great for my grandchildren, I had been shopping around for several weeks until I found this SUV it is great.
Soccerdad
Most comfortable and smoothest riding car I've ever owned. Leather interior, heated seats, seats 7 or fold down back seats for cargo. Plenty of space and leg room. Great shape. Lots of new parts.
Negative Owner Reviews
ARMYtango
This car seems too heavy for the measly 3.5L engine it carries under the hood. Too under powered. Horrible blind spots in the rear as well. Third row is nice, but not a lot of room between the third row and rear hatch to carry anything excessive or large. Most probably because, along with all the passenger doors, the hatch and doors are way too thick! Makes entering and exiting the vehicle when parked next to another car, difficult.

It is a great car, except it is a lemon. We bought the car in January 2016. The next day after we drove it off the dealer lot, the engine light came on. The Chrysler dealer replaced it with an aftermarket converter. After a month, the engine light came on again. After fighting with the dealer to fix it again, they finally sent it back to the same aftermarket place. Again, after a month the light is on. We asked the dealer what is causing the problem. They said that they Have no idea. (This is a remark from a Chrysler Dealer ) If they don't know, who does. It is now June 2017 and the engine light is still on because they will not replace it anymore. And we cannot find anyone to tell us the problem. We are stuck with this vehicle for now . We will never buy another one.
katjenk30
overall the car is a good car for back and fourth to work and school but as a traveling car not so much because the back seat passengers don't have much leg room

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica offered a decent array of technology and safety features for its time. Standard tech included a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims featured upgraded audio systems, including cassette players and CD changers. An optional DVD entertainment system with a screen for rear passengers was available, enhancing road trip enjoyment.
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. Some trims offered rear parking sensors. Safety features included standard front airbags and optional side airbags. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) was standard.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied. Some tests showed good performance in frontal impacts, while others revealed potential weaknesses in side-impact protection. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings also varied depending on the specific test.
Optional features included a navigation system (relatively basic by today's standards), power-adjustable pedals, and heated front seats. The Pacifica also came with a tire pressure monitoring system on some models, which was advanced for the time. Overall, while the Pacifica had some appealing tech and safety features, it lags behind modern vehicles in these areas.

2005 Chrysler Pacifica Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica ranged from approximately $27,000 to $37,000 depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices range from around $2,000 to $6,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Pacifica has depreciated significantly due to its age, reliability issues, and higher maintenance costs. Poor reliability significantly reduces its resale value compared to more reliable competitors.

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica is generally considered costly to own. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel economy is poor, leading to higher fuel expenses. Maintenance and repair costs are above average due to the vehicle's reliability issues and complex systems. reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica competed with vehicles like the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, and Ford Explorer. In terms of performance, the Pacifica was comparable to these rivals, offering adequate power for daily driving. Feature-wise, it offered similar amenities, but its reliability lagged significantly behind the Honda and Toyota. The Ford Explorer had similar reliability concerns. Price-wise, the Pacifica was often more affordable, both new and used, but this was often offset by higher repair costs.
The Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander are generally considered better alternatives due to their superior reliability and resale value. They offer similar space and features with fewer potential headaches. If looking for a budget-friendly option with similar features, the Ford Explorer could be considered, but buyers should be aware of its own reliability issues. The Pacifica's styling and available AWD were its main advantages, but these are often not enough to outweigh its reliability concerns. Consider a thorough inspection before buying any used Pacifica.

Final Verdict: Is the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2005 Chrysler Pacifica is ideal for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize styling and available AWD over long-term reliability and low running costs. It's only worth buying if you find a well-maintained example at a very low price and are prepared for potential repairs. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Newer model years (2007-2008) might be slightly more reliable. However, generally, more reliable alternatives like the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander are recommended, even if they cost more upfront. The Pacifica can be a decent option for short-term use if you need a spacious vehicle on a tight budget, but be prepared for potential headaches.

Been nice car.

Bought used and have owned for 7 years. Been a nice car to drive, great in the snow. Problems with it, headlights keep blowing out. Have replaced them more than usual. Gas pedal sticks when pressing down Just found out motor subframe rusted to the point of being too dangerous to drive. There had been a recall on that problem but unfortunately 😞 my car was built a month before the recall. Chrysler won't honor it.

It is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

This car has provided transportation for me and my family, faithfully and reliably. The utility space in the rear is large, and the third row seat has come in extremely handy whenever needed. The all wheel drive function gives the peace of mind to know the car will make its way through many extreme conditions. It is a very versatile vehicle.

Rust bucket

This car is known for having a rusted subframe which costs thousands to fix. Chrysler has refused to recall it and there was a class action lawsuit against the company which Chrysler won. I wish I would have known before I purchased this dud. It is currently sitting in the garage and needed thousands more in repairs than it is worth.
