The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica, introduced as a crossover SUV, aimed to blend minivan practicality with SUV styling. Produced from 2004 to 2008 (first generation), key trims included base, Touring, and Limited. New pricing ranged approximately from $25,000 to $35,000. Its appeal stemmed from its spacious interior, available all-wheel drive, and car-like driving experience compared to traditional minivans. The Pacifica's distinctive look also set it apart.
The Good

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica offered a comfortable ride and a spacious interior, appealing to families seeking practicality. Its car-like handling provided a more engaging driving experience than a traditional minivan. The design was relatively stylish for its class. Emotionally, it offered a sense of sophistication; practically, it was a capable family hauler at a reasonable price.

The Bad

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica had some reliability issues, particularly with the transmission and electrical systems. Fuel economy was not its strong suit. Owners should watch out for potential rust, especially in areas with harsh winters. Repair costs can be higher than average due to parts availability and complexity.

What Problems Does the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica Have?

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica is known for several frequently reported problems. Transmission issues, including rough shifting and outright failure, are common. Electrical problems, such as malfunctioning power windows, door locks, and issues with the onboard computer, are also frequently reported. Some owners have experienced premature wear of suspension components.

Recalls for the 2006 Pacifica have included issues related to the fuel system, potentially leading to fuel leaks, and problems with the airbag system. Long-term reliability is a concern; many owners report issues arising after 100,000 miles. Rust can also be a significant problem, particularly in areas that use road salt.

Earlier model years (2004-2005) tended to have more reported problems than the 2006 model, but the 2006 still wasn't immune. Checking the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls or service bulletins is highly recommended before purchasing. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic are crucial to identify potential issues before they become costly repairs.

How long will the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 15-20 years of service. However, achieving this longevity hinges on consistent upkeep, including timely oil changes, transmission servicing, and addressing repairs promptly. Many Pacificas start exhibiting significant issues around the 10-year mark.

Long-term durability weaknesses include rust in regions with harsh winters, transmission wear, and electrical system malfunctions. Neglecting maintenance significantly shortens its lifespan, potentially leading to costly repairs and premature failure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance are crucial for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.

The car is great, except for an issue that scares the daylights out of me. It shuts off while driving, with no warning, nothing. It just dies. I lose power steering, lights (interior/outside), brakes, everything. We've replaced the entire evap system, all new sensors, new battery, checked all ground wires, replaced fuel cap, and several other parts. It still keeps doing it! Also, you can't park on any hill, you'll never get the car to stay on if you do. You have to put car in neutral and coast down until your on flat ground in order to get car started again. I am terrified to drive this car anymore. I've almost had 5 accidents in less than a month due to the car just shutting off, even after all these repairs. I do not recommend this car.

I've owned mine since 2006 and it's the best vehicle one can buy for the price. I enjoy driving it. I've had no major issues with this car. I like the style Even though it's over 11yrs old the body style doesn't look dated. It's the best car to drive over the road, it's roomy for transporting six people. The fold down rear is the best. I've hauled furniture lawn mowers and all kinds of stuff and it road like a charm. My friend has an Outback and whenever we take it on the road, the road noise and the hard seats just wears me out. Compared to my Pacifica, it doesn't compare. I see the new cars and think I want one but I don't see anything that excites me as much as I love my Pacifica. I just hate that the new models are more a mini-van than the original Pacifica's. If they updated the original I might consider buying a new one. I don't want or need a mini-van. This is just such a GREAT ALL AROUND CAR!

The vehicle has been a headache since I bought it. GAS cap sing keeps popping up from the control panel, the PCM keeps resetting it self so the car won?t turn on for days.

its my first time to own a car and also a first time buyer i hope this car will help much more in everything

What a waist of time. We saw a car that we like, we sent an email to get more information and availability. They email me back with the car listing, they called me 3 time to conform that I was going. I leave 30 min away and after we get there they seated us to tell us that the car is no longer available and that they have another one but is more money.... He went for more information... and after waiting more that 15 min He said that the engine of that car is not good. We were so happy to found that car that we want and we get out from there very upset and mad. Definitely we do not recommend this dealer at all, and if you like a car from this dealer, make sure when they call you that they have your car still available. ....

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica came with standard tech and safety features for its time. Base models included a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims offered upgraded audio systems, some with navigation (optional). An optional rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a screen and wireless headphones was available.

Standard safety features included antilock brakes (ABS), traction control, and front airbags. Side-curtain airbags were optional, providing enhanced protection in side impacts. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles; features like parking sensors or blind-spot monitoring were not available.

Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied depending on the specific test. Some tests showed good performance, while others revealed vulnerabilities. It's important to consult the specific ratings for the 2006 model year from these organizations to assess its crashworthiness. Overall, while it offered adequate safety for its era, modern vehicles offer significantly more advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Prices and Market Value

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica had a new price range of approximately $25,000 to $35,000, depending on the trim level and options. As a used vehicle, current market prices typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location.

The Pacifica has depreciated significantly due to its age, reliability concerns, and higher maintenance costs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, maintenance history, mileage, and whether it has desirable options like the DVD entertainment system or all-wheel drive. Low mileage and well-documented maintenance can increase its value, but its reputation impacts resale negatively.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica tends to be costly to own. Insurance rates are moderate but fuel economy is poor. Maintenance and repair costs are higher than average due to potential reliability issues and parts availability. Common repairs like transmission work can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs are inflated by the need for frequent maintenance and the potential for major repairs. It is not an economical vehicle to own compared to more reliable and fuel-efficient alternatives.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica competed with vehicles like the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Freestyle (later Taurus X), and Buick Rendezvous. In terms of performance, the Pacifica's V6 engine was adequate, but its fuel economy lagged behind competitors like the Honda Pilot. Features were comparable for the time, with available options like DVD entertainment systems.

Reliability is where the Pacifica fell short. The Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander had significantly better reliability records. While the Ford Freestyle offered similar cargo space, it lacked the Pacifica's styling flair. The Buick Rendezvous was known for its comfortable ride but also suffered from reliability issues.

Given its reliability concerns, the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander would be better alternatives. These offer similar features, better fuel economy, and a significantly improved track record for long-term reliability. If price is a major concern, a well-maintained Ford Freestyle might be a consideration, but its long-term reliability should still be carefully considered. Ultimately, the Pacifica's appeal is limited by its reliability issues when compared to its rivals.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica is ideal for buyers on a very tight budget who need a spacious vehicle and are willing to accept the risk of higher maintenance costs. It might be worth buying if found in excellent condition with low mileage and a well-documented maintenance history, and only at a price that reflects its potential reliability issues.

Avoid models with known transmission problems or rust. A thorough pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Consider it only as a short-term solution, understanding that major repairs could be necessary. Newer, more reliable alternatives are generally a better investment unless the price is exceptionally low.

Great car for what it is

I used to own one of these and I loved the car. VERY comfortable and has a very smooth ride. Handles like a car, easy to steer, very nimble. The engine had it's issues, light on and off, but it would ALWAYS start no matter what. The car is super comfortable and quiet tho which are huge plusses. Doesn't hurt that the exterior styling still looks nice today.

Engine troubles

Engine slung a rod after two years of ownership. I bought this car for my grandson to drive to work and pleasure. Overall I liked the car but now with a blown engine it is going to cost more than what it is worth. The car Overall is a very nice car but I believe that engine is not as good as other engines from the company. I know the jeep that year has engine problems also

Just a GREAT vehicle!

I've owned mine for 4 years. For a so called " Soccer Dad's " car it's design is clean, sporty, and has the unique feature of round to square crossover lines. Meaning, car designers go from one to the other to make your car look older, pushing you to buy the "contemporary" / new look. This car never get old. I've had folks think its 3 yrs old...it's 14. ( My brushed lite gold w black helps). Interior is beautiful, nice soft lines, simulated woodgrain, all leather, NICE! 6 seats, folded plenty of carrying space. Engine, literally spent $500 a yr max. Peanuts...Totally LOVE my ride, so much so I'm transporting her 2900 miles for $1100 back east from Cali..Buy one! Great car.

Great value

Great value for an extremely reliable vehicle. Still in style after 14 years. Always starts, wonderous drive. Good pickup on freeways. Awd transmission is amazing. Engine is like new after 185,000. Brakes, tires and bearing repairs only.

One of best cars we have owned.

Quiet, smooth ride, AWD was excellent for standard driving, would not off road but this car was not made for that. Very roomy. Climate control was excellent with heated seats in front and back plus rear temp control was excellent. The third row of seats was useful only for children but we did use it occasionally. Sound system was excellent especially with the quiet passenger area. The back seats (second row)were basically the same as the front with full adjustments, just not powered. Unfortunately the gas mileage was horrible about 14mpg in town and 18 on the road.
