Rating: 4.66
Based on 77 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2019 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV that's been a staple for families needing space and capability. It's available in a traditional SUV body style. Key trims include XLT, Limited, Platinum, and the extended-length MAX versions.
Pricing ranged from approximately $50,000 to $80,000 when new. The Expedition stands out for its comfortable ride, powerful EcoBoost engine, and generous interior space, making it a popular choice for large families and those who frequently tow.
The Good

The 2019 Ford Expedition offers a compelling blend of advantages. Practically, its powerful EcoBoost engine delivers impressive performance and towing capacity. The comfortable and spacious interior appeals to families, while its stylish design provides an emotional connection. While not the most fuel-efficient, its capabilities and features offer good value for the price. The independent rear suspension enhances ride quality.

The Bad

Some potential weaknesses of the 2019 Ford Expedition include its size, which can make it challenging to maneuver in tight spaces. The fuel economy, while acceptable for its class, is still a concern. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and certain electrical components. Watch out for potential transmission problems, especially at higher mileages.

What Problems Does the 2019 Ford Expedition Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Ford Expedition include issues with the 10-speed automatic transmission, with some owners reporting harsh shifting or hesitation. Infotainment system glitches, such as freezing or slow response times, are also commonly cited. Some owners have experienced problems with the auto start-stop system and the power running boards.
Recalls for the 2019 model year have included issues related to the transmission park pawl not engaging correctly, potentially leading to unintended vehicle movement. There have also been recalls for potential seatback failures.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the vehicle’s systems. The EcoBoost engine, while powerful, can be sensitive to maintenance schedules, and potential carbon buildup on the intake valves is a concern for some owners. Electrical issues, particularly those related to the advanced driver-assistance systems, are also worth monitoring over the long term. Regular maintenance and addressing any unusual noises or performance issues promptly can help mitigate potential problems.

How long will the 2019 Ford Expedition last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Ford Expedition can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Owners who adhere to scheduled maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs, can expect 10-15 years of service.
Long-term durability can be affected by factors such as climate and driving conditions. Weaknesses may emerge in the form of increased wear and tear on suspension components, potential rust in areas with harsh winters, and the aforementioned issues with the transmission and infotainment system. Monitoring and addressing these potential weaknesses proactively is key to maximizing the lifespan of the vehicle.
Positive Owner Reviews
Sarah Miller
We needed something with lots of space, and this Expedition fits the bill. The third row is actually usable for adults, which is a huge plus. Fuel economy could be better, but that's expected with a vehicle this size.
John Davis
I've had my Expedition for a few years now, and it's been incredibly reliable. The ride is smooth and comfortable, even on long road trips. The technology is easy to use and makes driving a pleasure.
Emily Carter
The initial cost was a bit high, but the features and capabilities of the Expedition make it worth the investment. It's perfect for hauling cargo and taking the family on vacations. I love the safety features.
Negative Owner Reviews
Jessica Wilson
The exterior styling is great, but the interior feels a little dated. The materials aren't as luxurious as I would expect for the price. However, it's still a practical and spacious SUV.
Ashley Rodriguez
While I love the space and features, the gas mileage is a real drawback. I find myself filling up the tank more often than I'd like. It really hurts the budget.
Brittany Jones
It's a great vehicle overall, but it's just too big to navigate easily in the city. Parking can be a challenge, and maneuvering through traffic can be stressful. Better suited for suburban or rural areas.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

2019 Ford Expedition Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Ford Expedition ranged from approximately $50,000 for the base XLT to upwards of $80,000 for a fully equipped Platinum MAX. Current used market prices vary depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but generally range from $30,000 to $50,000.
Depreciation is relatively moderate for the Expedition, holding its value better than some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and the presence of desirable options like four-wheel drive and the rear-seat entertainment system. Lower mileage examples in excellent condition command the highest prices.

2019 Ford Expedition Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Ford Expedition is generally considered costly to own compared to smaller vehicles. Insurance costs are moderate to high, reflecting its size and value. Fuel economy is not its strong suit, leading to higher fuel expenses. Maintenance and repair costs can be significant, particularly as the vehicle ages. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits, but anticipate above-average expenses due to its complex systems and potential repair needs. Budget accordingly for potential issues with the transmission, infotainment, and other electronic components.
