The 2011 Honda Odyssey is a minivan, a segment Honda has consistently dominated with its blend of practicality and refinement. This generation, spanning model years 2011-2017, brought a more modern design and improved features. Key trims included LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite. New pricing ranged approximately from $28,000 to $44,000. The Odyssey is popular for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and reputation for reliability, making it a top choice for families.
The Good

The 2011 Odyssey excels in comfort and practicality with its spacious cabin and versatile seating configurations. It boasts Honda's renowned reliability, appealing to pragmatic buyers. While not a sports car, its V6 engine provides adequate performance. It also offers good fuel efficiency for its class, making it a sensible and dependable choice for families, offering peace of mind and enjoyable road trips.

The Bad

Power sliding door malfunctions and transmission issues have also been noted. What Problems Does the 2011 Honda Odyssey Have?

The 2011 Honda Odyssey has faced some frequently reported problems. One notable issue is related to the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. Some owners report excessive oil consumption, fouled spark plugs, and engine vibrations when the VCM system engages. This issue is sometimes addressed with a software update, but more drastic repairs might be needed.
Another common complaint involves the power sliding doors. They can become unreliable and may require repairs or replacement. Transmission issues, such as slipping or harsh shifting, have also been reported, though less frequently than the VCM and sliding door problems.
Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any open recalls related to your specific VIN. Recalls can address safety-related defects and are performed free of charge by Honda dealers.
Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around the VCM system, which, if not properly maintained, can lead to engine damage. Regular oil changes and monitoring oil levels are crucial for mitigating this risk. The power sliding doors and transmission are also potential areas of concern as the vehicle ages. Checking for any service bulletins related to these issues is advisable.

How long will the 2011 Honda Odyssey last?

With proper maintenance, a 2011 Honda Odyssey can easily exceed 200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. However, longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance, especially regular oil changes. The VCM system is a long-term durability concern; neglecting oil levels can lead to significant engine wear. Power sliding doors may require repairs over time. While generally reliable, preventative maintenance is key to maximizing the lifespan of the engine, transmission, and other components. Keeping up with scheduled services can help avoid major issues.

The ride is smooth and is specifically made to be a family car. The only issue is it's slow 0-60 second acceleration at about 8.3 seconds but that's not really what the car was made for, just wish it could go a little quicker. Compared this with the Toyota Sienna is that the Sienna is slightly a bit quicker. However, the Odyssey has way better styling and in my personal opinion one of the nicest minivans you could get back in the 2010s.

This car is perfect for our family. Had almost everything we were looking for but it wasn't a deal breaker. Love the car and so do my children.

I bought my Odyssey for traveling exploring and adventure. It meets my needs for all those categories. This is a wonderful vehicle for family travels.
Negative Owner Reviews

Issues with road noise and popping from front suspension (dealer sites engineering issue that can't be fixed only lubed with special Japanese grease) Have 115,000 and had to replace the left and right front axials and power steering pump.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Honda Odyssey offered a range of tech and safety features. Standard features included power windows, locks, and mirrors, along with basic audio systems. Higher trims added tri-zone automatic climate control, upgraded audio, and leather upholstery.
Entertainment options included a rear-seat entertainment system (available on EX-L and standard on Touring/Touring Elite) with a widescreen display on the Touring Elite. Navigation was optional on EX-L and standard on Touring trims.
Driver-assistance features were limited but the Touring Elite included a blind-spot monitoring system.
Safety features included standard antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and multiple airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good. The Odyssey typically earned high marks for its crash protection. Always consult the official NHTSA and IIHS websites for the most accurate and up-to-date crash test information. The availability of features varied by trim level, with the Touring Elite offering the most comprehensive package.

2011 Honda Odyssey Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Honda Odyssey ranged from approximately $28,000 for the base LX trim to around $44,000 for the top-of-the-line Touring Elite. As of today, used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The Odyssey has depreciated significantly, but its reputation for reliability helps maintain its resale value compared to some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, overall condition, accident history, and the presence of desirable features like leather seats and the rear-seat entertainment system. Lower mileage and a clean title command higher prices.

2011 Honda Odyssey Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Honda Odyssey generally offers reasonable ownership costs. Insurance premiums are typically moderate, reflecting its safety record. Fuel costs are average for a minivan, with its V6 engine providing acceptable fuel economy. Routine maintenance is relatively affordable, but repairs, especially related to the VCM system or power sliding doors, can be costly. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits; neglecting regular servicing can lead to expensive repairs down the line. Overall, it's neither the most economical nor the most expensive minivan to own.

2011 Honda Odyssey Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Honda Odyssey is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Van with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Honda Odyssey Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2011 Honda Odyssey competes with minivans like the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Town & Country (now Chrysler Pacifica), and Nissan Quest. The Odyssey generally matches the Sienna in terms of reliability and performance, offering a similar driving experience. The Chrysler Town & Country often undercuts the Odyssey in price but may not match its long-term reliability. The Nissan Quest offered a more stylish design but lacked the overall practicality and space of the Odyssey.
In terms of features, the Odyssey was competitive, especially in higher trims with its rear-seat entertainment system and available navigation. The Sienna also offered similar features. The Chrysler models sometimes offered unique features like Stow 'n Go seating.
If reliability is paramount, the Toyota Sienna is a comparable alternative. If budget is a primary concern, a well-maintained Chrysler Town & Country might be considered, but with increased scrutiny of its maintenance history. The Odyssey strikes a good balance between reliability, features, and performance, making it a strong contender in the minivan segment. Consider a Sienna if you value all-wheel drive, which the Odyssey did not offer.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Honda Odyssey a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2011 Honda Odyssey is ideal for families needing a spacious, reliable, and comfortable minivan. Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition and price. A used 2011 Odyssey can be a good value if it has been well-maintained and has a clean service history. Paying a bit more for a higher trim like the EX-L or Touring, with leather seats and more features, could be worthwhile for increased comfort and convenience. Be sure to have it inspected by a mechanic before purchasing, focusing on the VCM system, power sliding doors, and transmission. Avoid models with a history of neglect or significant mechanical issues.

Below average reliability for Touring Elite

Six speed transmission shift points are terrible. Shifts way to soon and boggs engine down, especially in mountains and hilly terrain. Minimal manual gear selection capability. Rotors are defective junk at less than 50k. Honda wants to blame the owner for the rotor problem, when it's a design/ manufacturer problem. ECO mode system is sure to mess your 3.5 Ltr engine up. The rings in several cylinders will normally need to be replaced. Leather seat quality and comfort is acceptable. Fuel mileage, (@18 city/ 26 highway) is good for such a large vehicle. A/C system works great. ABS/VSA went out at @60k. Vehicle is still drivable but the sliding doors will be locked out if ignition is ON. Most white vans have a problem with paint peeling off roof area. Honda needs to get there act together!

So disappointed after spending so much for the van

They replaced drivers seat heater, never got to use it. The Edson mechanics said it was the switch and would cost several hundred. Lights on for many things. The passengers cable just rusted off in the sliding door. The resale value is not good. That was the last Honda I will ever buy.

Trade up from 2008 Odyssey EX to 2011 Odyssey EX-L

Our previous Odyssey EX was great, but we often thought we would like comfort features like Blutooth, heated leather seats, moon roof, and Navigation. So this EX-L trim has all that. With the second row seats sliding forward at the touch of a lever, makes entry to third row seats really easy, even for an adult. Unlike 3 row SUV I looked at, the Ody has plenty of leg room in the third row seats.
