What Problems Does the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Santa Fe have addressed issues such as problems with the stop lamp switch, which could affect brake light operation and cruise control functionality. Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information, as recalls can be issued after this information has been compiled. Long-term reliability can be affected by neglecting scheduled maintenance, so a well-maintained Santa Fe is more likely to be problem-free. Engine issues are less prevalent but can occur with high mileage or lack of maintenance. Regular oil changes and fluid checks are crucial for longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. Optional features varied by trim level. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good, earning "Good" ratings in several categories. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also provided star ratings for frontal and side crash protection.
Beyond the basics, the technology is quite dated by modern standards. The absence of features like Bluetooth connectivity (which was optional on some trims) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) is noticeable. However, its focus on core safety and functional entertainment made it competitive for its time. Keep in mind that technology expectations were considerably different in 2009.

How Does the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Compare to Other Wagon?
In terms of price, the Santa Fe often undercut its rivals, making it an attractive value proposition. If reliability is a top priority, a RAV4 or CR-V might be a better alternative, though they typically command a higher price on the used market. The Ford Escape is another similar alternative, but it's also important to check its reliability records. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and budget. If you prioritize value and are willing to accept slightly higher potential for repairs, the Santa Fe is a decent option. If long-term reliability is paramount, consider the Toyota or Honda despite the higher cost.

THE BEST CAR I'VE OWNED, AND I AM 83 YEARS OLD!My much-loved 2009 Santa Fe Limited just passed the 200,000 miles mark TODAY! Bought it new in January 2010; have given it good care; no dogs or kids riding in it, and no major problems at all yet. I will keep it until it drops!! It is also a beautiful burgundy, with gold striping and a great design.

2009 Santa Fe, was my second 2004) was my firstOnly problem is front end wheel problem, and subframe rust out, no engine or transmission problems, this car starts in the winter when newer cars did not. I love my 2009 Santa Fe, it's been good to me no serious problems till now that is is the subframe rust out. This car was used when I bought it whatever they cleaned the interior with stains came back.

Accelerate on its ownWhen pulling into my sister's driveway, the car accelerates on its own. Hit her home. No carpet caught. Nothing preventing gas pedal from rising up. Engine sounded like a race car. Over 2,000 damage. If you purchase this car or already own. Get gas pedal sencers looked at.

It's a keeper, especially in today's marketHad it about 5 years. Bought it with 109,000km on it. Had 2 recalls for valve cover gasket / alternator check and repair under warranty. I was happy with Hyundai service. Had brakes done, snow tires, regular oil fluid changes. New starter and battery about a month ago. Just regular stuff really. Pretty good and useful vehicle. It'll tow a bit. It can carry a few 10 foot long boards. It's good in the snow. It's not got a very sexy exterior though. Bland. I'm at 185,000 km now and most of my driving is on the highway so wear is minimized. Good power and pickup.

'09 Santa Fe Limited - 12 years oldI just found this low mileage (54k) '09 Santa Fe in great condition and it was just what I was looking for as a 'dog' hauler. I test drove the vehicle at the dealership and was very impressed. This particular vehicle has been very well taken care, has the 3.3 6 cylinder engine, is a Limited, and and has most options that were offered on the Santa Fe in '09. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the vehicle drove and handled and how nice the ride was. All this being said, I just bought it, so time will tell as far as reliability but based on other reviews I have read, the Santa Fe seems to be very reliable if it is maintained properly.

Well built, reliable car, peppy with larger v6We like this car but are disappointed with the driving dynamics. Is something about the transmission/accelerator articulation. Also the ride is great on smooth surfaces but choppy and feels every bump on uneven. Very dependable and well built.

Extremely nice vehicleWe wanted a mid size suv and this one is perfect. It rides nice and gets good mileage. Only bad thing is it only has a 12 gallon fuel tank.
