What Problems Does the 2017 Subaru Forester Have?
Recalls for the 2017 Forester have included issues related to the PCV valve which can lead to engine failure, and problems with the fuel pump, which could cause the engine to stall. Owners should check the NHTSA website for specific recall information related to their VIN.
Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the potential for oil consumption and CVT issues. While Subaru has extended warranties for certain CVT problems in some model years, it's crucial to have the vehicle regularly inspected and maintained to mitigate these risks. Additionally, some owners have mentioned issues with the infotainment system freezing or malfunctioning, although this is a relatively minor concern.

How Does the 2017 Subaru Forester Compare to Other Wagon?
Reliability is a strong point for the Forester, RAV4, and CR-V. The CX-5 also has a good reputation. Price-wise, the Forester is generally competitive within its class.
Alternatives to the Forester: If prioritizing fuel efficiency and advanced tech, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a strong contender. For a sportier driving experience, the Mazda CX-5 is a good choice. The Honda CR-V offers a well-rounded package with a spacious interior and good fuel economy. The Subaru Outback, while slightly larger, offers similar characteristics with even more cargo space and off-road capability.

Great vehicleI have owned my 2017 Forester since late 2016. Except for normal maintenance I've had no problems with thr vehicle. All of the warning systems work very well, they have saved me from accidents numerous times. The automatic seat repositioning when some one else has used my is really handy eliminates all the adjusting needed to get the position back to my needs. Traction and controll during winter and bad weather are excellent. My forrester get used like a truck at times. Great overall car.

2017 Subaru ForresterHad this car for seven years, never any problems, very low mileage. Very nice to drive, smooth gas mileage around 30 mpg. Traded it in for a new forester, I actually was ready to cry, when I left it. Very reliable.

Electrical IssuesBought new and have had electrical issues from day one. Subaru and the local dealership have been worthless in trying to resolve the issues. Next car will not be a Subaru.

Too many problemsMotor replaced 18 month after purchase, AC compressor recall done in July, now evaporator has a leak. They quoted me $1400. Car still hesitates at 22mph, 62mph since bought car. Have only 42,000 mile on the car.

Safet and Most ComfortableThe Subaru Forester is indeed one of the safest cars on the road. I was in an auto accident (not my fault) and all my air bags blew. Wow, what a site--air bags everywhere! Car was totalled--got hit in front drivers side--and my only injury, aside from bruises, was a broken ankle. Impressed. Aside from that, we have had several Subarus and they have always gotten us through. The all-wheel drive system can not be beat!

Most comfortable and reliable SUV I've ownedThe Forester is a spunky and safe SUV that has storage, room for the car seats for the grandkids, and a gorgeous moon roof. It gets great gas mileage and has enough pick up and speed to pass trucks on the highway when needed. I love the Forester!!!

Subaru’s are great! These little cars are great. They are quick, easy to handle, spacious, economical, have a lot of cargo room and just plain fun to drive!

Great car for 2017Best car I’ve ever owned. Bought for the safety features (later models and other brands have now surpassed the features that were only available on the Subaru). The seats are not the most comfortable for long drives. Especially the passenger seat which is manual. Bought it with only 5,000 miles on it - was told the first owner wanted a more comfortable car. I strongly recommend Subaru, but suggest buyers look at newer models and other brands if they want the more advanced safety features.

BEST CAR IVE EVER OWNED!I have the Forester XT, its fast, its comfortable, its a beast in the snow. The visibility is unparalleled. It has more windows than my house. I literally only have a single complaint: The A/C is not cold at all. Thank god I live in Michigan and not in the south. I've had it blasting for an hour + in 80 degree weather and it does not cool down me in the drivers seat, let alone my toddler in the back seat. Its the reason we bought a larger car that had rear climate control. I hear this is a common Subaru issue. Otherwise, this car is incredible and holds its value.
