The Good
The 2014 Passat offers a comfortable ride and spacious interior, appealing to practical buyers needing family transportation. Strong points include its fuel efficiency (especially with the TDI diesel), and solid build quality. Emotionally, the Passat offers a taste of German engineering and a refined driving experience at an accessible price point.
The Bad
Some potential weaknesses in the 2014 Passat include reported issues with the infotainment system, and potential for oil consumption in some engines. Early models of this generation have been noted to have some electrical gremlins. Also, while reliable, certain components can be more expensive to repair than domestic rivals. Check for proper maintenance history.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
In crash testing, the 2014 Passat performed well. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded it a "Top Safety Pick" rating. The IIHS ratings include good scores in moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints & seat tests. While not equipped with advanced features like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking standard on newer cars, the Passat offered a solid level of safety for its time. The availability of features like blind-spot monitoring would depend on the specific trim and options selected when the vehicle was new.

How Does the 2014 Volkswagen Passat Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord are excellent choices. If you prefer a sportier driving experience, consider the Ford Fusion. If budget is a major concern, the Chevrolet Malibu can be a good option. The Passat excels in offering a comfortable and spacious interior with a touch of German engineering, but its long-term reliability may not match the Camry or Accord.

I bought a 2014 VW Passat and it broke down in the firstI bought a 2014 VW Passat and it broke down in the first week. I have put $4,500 in it for repairs and it is still overheating. This is the worst car I have ever had!!!!!

I bought a 2014 VW Passat SE in 2014 Brand New.I bought a 2014 VW Passat SE in 2014 Brand New. I have done all the recommended maintenance on the car since I bought it and I have never had it break on me. I just hit 100k last month. I was driving down the highway a few weeks ago and I hit what appeared to be a piece of concrete or asphalt in the road. It made a loud thud under my car and I immediately lost power and the car turned off. I had it towed to the dealership. Whatever I hit took out my fuel pump that is inside the gas tank. They charged me $2100 to fix it. So I can tell you first hand these cars are reliable if you do all the maintenance like you are supposed to. But when they do Break, they cost way more than they should to fix them!

A real diesel for longevity with proper maintenancTo all the "whiners" out there (detailing mechanical issues) "after" 100,000 miles. You don't let ANY brand of car go without "scheduled maintenance at or around 90-100,000 miles. Look at your maintenance book that came with the car. (ALL) cars have an expensive scheduled maintenance plan. If you buy a new 2024 its gonna have a $100-300 inspection and a mechanic bill of $150-175/Hr labor before parts. Some of you sound like you're suppose to be able to buy a perfect car that will never need maintenance. Really??? sheeesh. Buy an extended warranty and a new(er) car. You're the worst kind of driver to review any car. This brand is often nicknamed the "million mile" car bc it can go that far with "scheduled maintenance" of the engine wear items and oil changes. Can your Honda or Hydaui go that far??? I challenge you as a 4 VW car owner from the 2006-2014 to beat this brand of engine on highway mpg and engine longevity. Go do your homework and stop whining. My 2006 VW diesel still going at 325,000 and my 2014 Passat Tdi still going at 147,000 with the engine pistons and rings just getting seated at 90000-100,000 miles. You don't know what that means but as a diesel tech I can tell you it means it just getting its first break in period on its longevity of the engine parts. Farfenugen baby. Go VW!!!

Buy at your own risk2.5 stars is more accurate because it’s a 50/50 car. I bought one used around 100k miles no accidents. Did it look nice? Yes. Was it comfortable? Yes. Beautiful interior, nice and sleek exterior and a car that gets pretty good gas mileage, all things you looks for. Here’s where we went wrong: The internals. Sure this car performs great when it’s running, and that’s what suckers you into buying it with ease. But after a short amount of time owning it, timing chain goes out. Learned this was a common issue and while it was a pain (and expensive) it was manageable. Well then it starts leaking oil so you fix that. Then the turbo starts cooking off oil and breaks. Before you know it the engine goes and now you’re 7k in repairs on a car you probably paid 15k or less for. To make my personal situation worse I totaled it within a month of it finally running like when I first bought it. It’s a buy at your own risk. Me personally? Not worth it and comes with plenty of issues and expensive repairs. At the same time, I’ll miss it. It’s arguably one of the more comfortable, nicer looking, and higher performing (when running) sedans on the market. Buy at your own risk.

Good car, but not reliable.I bought 2014 passat four years ago and was driving for a while. During that time, i had to fix such a lots of things. Everytime I went to volkawagen center, they required 200 dollors to test what's wrong there. Then I spend more than 3000 dollors during that time, but sometimes not everything was fixed.

Still the OneHave had my beauty since 2014 and it's still a head turner. With over 110,000 miles, it still runs like brand new! I have never had issues with anything mechanical and have only had the one air bag recall.

Costly repairs, poor designToo many problems to list. Timing chain jumped a couple teeth causing catastrophic engine failure. No check engine light to warn of impending doom. This is a very very common issue with the passat which is known by VW and they refuse to address it. I was a VW/Audi tech for 7 yrs and have lost faith in this brand. Complete junk.

One of most comfortable with powerThis is the German car having all German qualities, comfort, performance and reliability. Another best thing is it's a cheaper than other German companies like BMW, AUDI etc. I am so glad i am driving this volkswagen, it's so roomy, it's business class car, which can take care of any family. Back seats are really spacious like business class, having really roomy trunck. It's a 1.8 turbo engine ,which handle the power really quick and smooth. Handling is so smooth and accurate, it act so confidently on corners, it's a really long sedan but it feel like really small when you drive. It's really reliable, i got zero dollar investment in last 8 months ,except oil change. Thanks.
