The Good
The 2021 Passat provides a comfortable and spacious cabin appealing to families (emotional). Its predictable handling and ample trunk space satisfy practical needs. While not a performance leader, it offers adequate power and decent fuel efficiency for daily driving. Its timeless design and reputation for VW engineering create a sense of value and dependability.
The Bad
The 2021 Passat's weaknesses include its somewhat dated technology compared to newer rivals. Its powertrain, while reliable, isn't the most exciting. The availability of only one engine option limits choice. Some may find the interior design bland. Also, be aware of potential long-term reliability issues common to VWs, such as electrical problems and oil leaks. Routine maintenance is crucial.

What Problems Does the 2021 Volkswagen Passat Have?
Recalls for the 2021 Passat have been relatively limited, but it's essential to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information. Common issues reported across Passat model years include potential problems with the sunroof mechanism, leading to leaks.
Long-term reliability concerns typically center around the complexity of modern VWs. The turbocharged engine requires regular maintenance and high-quality synthetic oil to prevent issues. Proper maintenance, including timely oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to prevent major problems down the road. Suspension components and brake systems should also be inspected regularly to ensure longevity. Transmission issues are less common but can occur, especially if the recommended service intervals are neglected.

How Does the 2021 Volkswagen Passat Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of features, the Passat is generally well-equipped, but some rivals offer more advanced technology. Performance-wise, the Passat's single engine option isn't as exciting as the more powerful engines available in the Camry and Accord. Price-wise, the Passat is competitive.
Alternatives:
- Honda Accord: A well-rounded choice with excellent reliability and a sporty driving experience.
- Toyota Camry: Renowned for its dependability and longevity.
- Mazda 6: Offers a more premium feel and engaging handling.
The Passat remains a solid option, especially for those prioritizing interior space and comfortable ride quality. However, considering the alternatives with stronger reliability records or more modern features is advisable.

Passat is solid and reliable and affordable luxuryThe Passat is a solid sedan and very reliable. I like the way it drives and feels on the road. The interior is very good size with more backseat and trunk room by far. The R Line is the best

Sits too lowI love my Passat SE. My only complaint: being 6'1" I find it somewhat difficult to get in and out of the car. It sits too low. But once in the car it's most comfortable and a pleasure to drive. The driving assists and adaptive curse are marvelous. I think it's one of the nicest looking cars I've ever owned.

Most reliable car I have ever ownedThis is my 6th or 7th VW Passat - I have lost count but this car continues to go and has never let me down - I wouldn't think of purchasing a different make
