What Problems Does the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban Have?
Recalls for the 2006 Suburban may exist related to safety concerns, such as airbag deployment or brake system issues; it is advisable to check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around rust, especially in regions with harsh winters. The active fuel management system (AFM) on some engines can lead to oil consumption issues over time. Suspension components, like ball joints and control arm bushings, can also wear out. Additionally, the fuel level sensor is a commonly reported problem. It is recommended to have a pre-purchase inspection done by a trusted mechanic, especially given the age of the vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but included available features like rear parking sensors. Safety features included antilock brakes (ABS), dual front airbags, and side-impact airbags (optional). Stability control (StabiliTrak) was also available.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally showed good performance in frontal and side-impact tests, but specific ratings can vary. It's important to consult the NHTSA or IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) websites for precise crash-test data for the 2006 model year. While reasonably equipped for its era, it lacks many of the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) common in newer vehicles, such as lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking.

How Does the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Regarding features, the Suburban provides a similar level of amenities as its rivals, with available leather, entertainment systems, and premium audio. Reliability is comparable to the Expedition and Yukon XL, although all three can have transmission and electrical issues. The Armada is generally considered slightly less reliable.
Price-wise, used Suburbans are often competitively priced compared to similar Expeditions and Yukon XLs. The Armada might be slightly cheaper.
Alternatives to consider include newer model year Suburbans or Yukon XLs if a larger budget is available, as they offer improved fuel economy and updated features. A Toyota Sequoia could be a more reliable option but might be more expensive to purchase initially. If space is the primary concern and towing needs are minimal, a minivan might be a more fuel-efficient alternative, such as a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey.

2003 Suburban 2500 LT w/QuadrasteerLove this Suburban, lots of space, great power with the 6.0 V8 and 4L80 transmission, very reliable, but fairly cheap to repair when it does need something. The quadrasteer system makes this Suburban handle like a dream and very easy to tow with.

Excellent family vehicleThe Suburban is an excellent family vehicle. It can handle the harshest winter conditions of northern Minnesota, and be the most comfortable road trip vehicle our family has ever experienced! Reliable. Comfortable. Value.

Awesome power like no other vehicle I have ownedVery comfortable with a powerfull 8.1L engine. Great for hauling anything. You wont even feel the drag. It is a gas guzzler. But it's woth it. It's a unique engine. Would definitely buy a new one if Chevy were to produce them with this engine again.

Best Suburban I've ever owned!I love this Suburban we just took it on a trip 4000 miles in 10 days through mountain passes and highway speeds of 85 mph cool weather and hot weather old blue never missed a beat. At 192,000 miles at the end of our trip I bet it runs for another 150,000 miles. I wish I could keep it forever but that's not what I do. It pulls trailers and boats with enough room for 8
