The Good
The 2000 Suburban offers robust performance with its V8 engines, providing ample power for towing and hauling. Its spacious interior offers comfort for long trips, appealing to families. While not fuel-efficient, its reliability and reputation for durability, especially in pre-owned markets, make it a practical and emotionally appealing choice for those needing a large, capable vehicle.
The Bad
The 2000 Suburban's weaknesses include poor fuel economy, a common complaint among owners. Rust can be an issue, especially in colder climates. Transmission problems, particularly with high mileage, and electrical glitches are other potential concerns. Watch out for worn suspension components and ensure proper maintenance records before purchasing.

What Problems Does the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban Have?
Electrical issues, such as malfunctioning power windows, door locks, and instrument panel lights, are also common. The fuel pump can also be a point of failure. Some owners have reported problems with the air conditioning system, including compressor failure and refrigerant leaks. The braking system, including the ABS system, can also experience problems. It's crucial to check the brake lines for rust.
While specific recalls for the 2000 model year may vary, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety concerns. Long-term reliability concerns center around the longevity of the transmission, engine maintenance (oil leaks, etc), and rust prevention. Properly maintaining the vehicle with regular fluid changes, rustproofing, and addressing minor issues promptly can extend its lifespan.
How long will the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) as an option, and side-impact door beams. Optional features could include OnStar, offering emergency assistance and vehicle diagnostics. The NHTSA crash test ratings for the 2000 Suburban were generally good for frontal impacts, but side-impact protection was less impressive.
Optional features included a premium sound system, rear-seat entertainment (typically a VHS player in some models), and climate control. Keep in mind that compared to modern SUVs, the 2000 Suburban is significantly lacking in advanced safety and technology. Its safety systems were the standards of the time, and its entertainment was generally limited to cassette players and maybe a CD player. It's more of a classic, rugged hauler than a tech-laden family vehicle.

How Does the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of features, all were relatively basic for their time. Reliability is comparable across the board, with similar potential issues related to transmission, rust, and electrical problems. Used prices are also similar, depending on condition and mileage.
Alternatives to the 2000 Suburban include newer model Suburbans or Yukon XLs if a more modern vehicle with improved safety features and fuel economy is desired. The Toyota Sequoia (later models) is a strong alternative known for its reliability. However, if maximum towing capacity and passenger space are priorities and budget is a major constraint, the 2000 Suburban remains a viable option, provided it's been well-maintained. The Ford Expedition is another similar sized competitor of the time.

Like A Rock !!!Best old truck for the buck. I bought my 2000 suburban in 2020 with 337,000 miles on it and I've only replaced a fuel and water pump along with an alternator and a few window regulators. Not bad at all for a 22 year old truck ! It truly is like a Rock !

Best most reliable vehicles I have ever owned .Bought this suburban with around 50,000 Miles on it . 5.3 vortex auto trans 4x4 1500 (1/2 ton) Only thing I ever had to do to it was normal maintenance oil, plugs, injector flush, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gaskets, brakes just normal stuff. I did change transmission filter and oil twice. I also was running all synthetic oils from front to back. Towed two horse trailer, and a boat. Finally at over 240,000 miles the transmission started to slip. It still got us home even with the horse. This was an amazing vehicle sad to se it go.
