The Good
The 2014 Suburban offers strong V8 performance and impressive towing capability, appealing to practical buyers needing utility. It provides a comfortable and spacious interior, satisfying emotional desires for family road trips. While fuel efficiency isn't its strength, its long-term reliability, proven track record, and relatively lower price point compared to newer SUVs add to its overall value.
The Bad
The 2014 Suburban's weaknesses include below-average fuel economy for its class and a somewhat dated interior design compared to newer SUVs. Watch out for potential AFM (Active Fuel Management) system issues, which can lead to oil consumption problems. Rust on the undercarriage and body panels, especially in colder climates, should also be inspected.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban Have?
Recalls for the 2014 Suburban have included concerns related to the power steering assist, which could suddenly be lost, and issues with the side airbags. It is important to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns often involve rust, especially in regions with salted roads during winter. Suspension components, such as the air ride suspension (if equipped on the LTZ), can also require maintenance or replacement as the vehicle ages. Electrical issues, like malfunctioning sensors or problems with the infotainment system, are also commonly reported. Preventive maintenance, including regular oil changes and addressing any unusual noises or vibrations promptly, is crucial for maximizing the lifespan of the 2014 Suburban.
How long will the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban last?
Long-term durability weaknesses often relate to rust, the AFM system (leading to oil consumption), and suspension components. Vehicles in warmer climates tend to experience fewer rust-related issues, while those with diligent owners who proactively address mechanical concerns generally last longer.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern vehicles, but rear parking sensors are standard. Higher trims (LT and LTZ) offer features like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Safety features encompass standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags, including front, side-impact, and side curtain airbags. Optional features include power-adjustable pedals, which can improve driver comfort and safety.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) show a 4-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the 2014 Suburban a "Marginal" rating in the small overlap front crash test and "Good" ratings in other tests.

2014 Chevrolet Suburban Prices and Market Value
Depreciation is significant, but the Suburban holds its value relatively well compared to some other SUVs due to its reputation for durability and utility. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, mechanical condition, accident history, and the presence of desirable options like four-wheel drive and a rear-seat entertainment system. Lower mileage and well-maintained examples command higher prices.

How Does the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Regarding features, the Suburban offers a similar level of equipment as its rivals, but the interior design might feel dated compared to newer models like the refreshed Expedition. Reliability is generally good, but potential AFM issues are a concern, which the Sequoia avoids with its simpler engine design.
In terms of price, the Suburban typically undercuts the Sequoia on the used market, making it a more affordable option. The Expedition can be similarly priced.
Alternatives to consider include a newer model of the Suburban or Yukon XL for updated features and improved fuel economy, or the Toyota Sequoia for its proven reliability and simpler engine design. If towing isn't a primary concern, a large crossover SUV might offer better fuel economy and a more modern driving experience.

Comfortable suv, presidential! After 200000 miles the only complaint i have is that GM uses cheap materials to save money. Hreat suv for family and amazing for long trips. I get 12 to 15 mpg, depending on traffic and my driving, normally i always get 13mpg, which is far better than german and Japanese suvs.

Best truck ever!!!I have owned many larger SUV style vehicles. Chevrolet Suburban has been the best by far. It not only looks amazing, it handles like a charm. I have been on many long trips in this vehicle and it is extremely comfortable.

Drove for 100,000 miles with no major issuesOverall quality was great. We had a few issues with the kids pulling on the door handles too hard and the door handles coming off. The dealer was able to reinstall the door handles for $50 each time this happened. Front brakes were required at 75,000 miles however, we towed a boat quite often so this was expected. 8 passengers seated comfortably, great stereo, great towing power. Fuel economy was as expected for a truck this big, 17 mpg average not towing, 14 mpg while towing a 3,500 lb boat and trailer.
