The Good
The 2017 GMC Canyon offers a balanced driving experience. Performance is strong with available V6 and diesel engines. The Canyon boasts comfortable ride quality and an upscale interior, appealing to emotional buyers. Practical benefits include decent fuel efficiency (especially with the diesel), and good towing capacity. While not class leading in reliability, it's generally considered adequate.
The Bad
Some 2017 GMC Canyon owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, particularly rough shifting. The infotainment system can sometimes be slow or buggy. The interior plastics, while well-designed, aren't the highest quality. Also, the base engine can feel underpowered for some users, especially when towing.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include a rearview camera, multiple airbags, and stability control. Optional features vary by trim and can include a Bose premium audio system, heated front seats, and automatic climate control.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA are generally positive, with overall scores of four or five stars, depending on the configuration (cab style and drivetrain). The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided good ratings in several crashworthiness categories. These safety features contribute to overall driver confidence and passenger protection. The Canyon's infotainment system, while functional, can feel dated compared to newer offerings, particularly in terms of processing speed and responsiveness. However, the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto helps to mitigate this issue. The available driver-assistance features enhance safety, but aren't as comprehensive as those found in some competing vehicles.

How Does the 2017 GMC Canyon Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
In terms of performance, the Canyon's V6 and diesel engines are competitive. For features, the Canyon holds its own, especially in higher trims. Reliability is a potential weak point compared to the Tacoma. Price-wise, the Canyon is generally comparable to its rivals.
Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Tacoma for reliability and resale value, or the Honda Ridgeline for comfort and on-road performance. The Chevrolet Colorado is a similar alternative at a potentially lower price. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and needs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 GMC Canyon a Good Pickup Truck?

Transmission problems.Transmission problems. GMC knows about it and will do nothing about it. Read other reviews with all problems. Hesitate, slow to find gear first to second. Reverse slow to go in. Jerks going into gear.

Great TruckGMC Canyon Denali with the 2.7 Duramax diesel is a loaded power house with great fuel economy. 4x4 has a towing capacity of 7000 pounds, the best in class. 31 MPG on the highway! Previously owned a Tacoma but it would not pull our travel trailer with the V-6. Highly recommend the Canyon diesel, if you can find one!

So far great.Just purchased the crew cab diesel and so far I love it. Already like seeing the 30+ mpg and it drives like a car. Next up is to test for its towing capability.

Very comfortable and the four wheel drive great. The vehicle is well appointed with a very user friendly dashboard set up. The interior of the truck is very comfortable. The sliding rear window will be a nice feature in the summer.

Amazing truckMidsize truck that you'd swear was full size. I opted for the denali trim with duramax diesel. The truck is an absolute beast. The Bose sound is great, tons of torque from the Duramax. The extended bed is another must. The ride in this crew cab extended bed is like riding in a Cadillac, you'd swear you weren't in a pickup truck Some drawbacks are no sunroof, no full power seats. The door storage is really goofy. It doesn't have the top safety features such as blindspot, collision avoidance. Overall the truck is the best in class in . Tows over 7000

Great, but not excellent truck. This car meets the needs of a half-size truck owner, but lacks if you need to push it. It is comfortable enough, but a little small even for the average size person. It is a very good looking vehicle.
