The Good
The 2009 Jeep Patriot offers a blend of affordability and Jeep's rugged image. It appeals to practical buyers with its low price and decent fuel economy (for its class). Emotionally, it provides the appeal of owning a Jeep with available 4x4, making it feel capable and adventurous. While not luxurious, it's a functional and value-oriented option.
The Bad
The 2009 Jeep Patriot has some known weaknesses. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is prone to issues and can be costly to repair. The interior materials feel cheap and the engine can feel underpowered, especially with the CVT. Reliability can be a concern, so a thorough inspection is vital before purchasing.

How Does the 2009 Jeep Patriot Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of off-road capability, the Patriot (with Freedom Drive II) offers better performance than many of its rivals, but at the expense of on-road comfort and fuel economy. Alternatives to the Patriot include the Subaru Forester, which offers standard all-wheel drive and better reliability. If budget is the primary concern, a used Mazda Tribute (related to the Ford Escape) could be a similar alternative, offering better reliability than the Patriot, or even a newer, more reliable compact car might be a better choice for long-term cost savings if 4x4 is not a priority. Ultimately, the Patriot's low price is its biggest selling point, but buyers should be aware of the potential reliability issues.

Good used car so farI think this is going to be a good used car. I never had a 4x4 before so I am still learning how to use its max. Benfits.

I LOVE MY JEEEEPGREAT for seasonal weather, spacious, and durable. I love the 4WD during the winter! I also appreciate the off-roading benefits. Family-friendly vehicle (and fur friendly).

Constantly doing repairsI bought this car used from the dealership and have nothing but problems...front end has been done 2x bearings have been done 2x, rear end is making a clunk on right turns mechanic says it needs to be re-done. I've had multiple mechanics tell me they do a lot of the same repairs on the patriots and would never recommend them. I'll be trading it in ASAP

Worthless piece of junk!DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!! WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK!!! 0 stars Purchased a brand new 2009 Jeep Patriot Limited in late 2008 at my local Spring, TX Chrysler Jeep dealer. I loved my Patriot and I am now the sucker! 18 months after purchase the CVT tranny went out and was replaced under warranty. That concerned me but I still loved my Patriot! But this is what makes this car worthless-Suddenly and with no warning my key fob wouldn't open my car. I was able to start it using the key but then the check engine light came on and none of the electrical systems were working properly. I got home and read some blogs and found one where a guy said his wife's was doing the same thing and he advised popping in and out the white fuse box (the reset). I tried it and it worked so I went straight the dealer to get my car fixed. Had the tech come out and explained it to him and he turned the car off and sure enough had to pop out and in the reset fuse box to start the car. I left the car to get repaired (should have been a piece of cake right? NOT!!) I also had to rent a vehicle to go to work. The next day they called me to ask me to come in to the dealer. I did and when I spoke to my service advisor at Auto Nation Spring, Tx she explained that the part that needs to be replaced is called a gauge cluster. She then explains that Chrysler no longer makes that part and that my best option is to call around to find a company that specializes in clusters or check the junk yard. Oh and if that isn't bad enough she tells me that even if I can find the part they can't install it for legal reasons. And they still charged me $90.00 for the diagnostic! So I came home called Chrysler and opened a case and was given a case

Great small-sized SUV.This car met all of my needs when I first purchased it. Although it still runs well I'm upgrading to a larger vehicle to fit my needs, but I wish I could keep it around!

Just Meh..I love my Jeep! It?s a good size, good on gas, gas the amenities I want. But! The transmission is terrible, constantly jerking and missing, when it rains water leaks from my dome light (common problem apparently), AND don?t expect to win any races because when this car is in between 25-35 miles per hour the transmission doesn?t know what to do! It?s like it spazzes out!
