The Good
The 2010 Jeep Patriot offers Jeep's classic rugged design and available 4x4 capability for adventurous spirits. Practically, it's an affordable SUV with reasonable fuel efficiency in front-wheel-drive models. It provides a comfortable ride on paved roads and has a spacious cargo area for its size. The low price point makes it appealing to budget-conscious buyers.
The Bad
The 2010 Jeep Patriot has some known weaknesses. Owners should watch out for potential issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), especially in 4x4 models. What Problems Does the 2010 Jeep Patriot Have?
Electrical issues are another area of concern, with reports of problems with the alternator, starter, and various sensors. Premature brake wear is also commonly reported, potentially due to the vehicle's weight and driving style.
Regarding recalls, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any open recalls related to your specific VIN. While specific recall campaigns may vary, some potential recall areas might involve airbags or other safety-related components.
Long-term reliability can be affected by the CVT issues mentioned above, along with the potential for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Regular maintenance is crucial to mitigate these concerns.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were minimal. ABS and Electronic Stability Control were standard. However, advanced features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, or adaptive cruise control were not available.
Safety features included front airbags, side-curtain airbags, and anti-lock brakes. Optional features included side-impact airbags.
Crash-test ratings varied. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2010 Jeep Patriot mixed ratings. Some tests resulted in 4-star ratings, while others were lower. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided ratings, which are worth checking for specific crash scenarios. Overall, the Patriot's safety features were adequate for its time but lacked the advanced technologies found in newer vehicles.

How Does the 2010 Jeep Patriot Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Price was the Patriot's primary advantage. It was typically more affordable than its competitors when new and remains so on the used market. However, this lower price comes with compromises in other areas.
Alternatives to the 2010 Jeep Patriot include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-5 (if you can stretch your budget). These vehicles offer better reliability, performance, and features. The Subaru Forester is another good alternative, offering standard all-wheel drive. If budget is the primary concern, a used Ford Escape or Hyundai Tucson might be considered, but research their reliability records as well. Considering a more reliable competitor might save money in the long run despite a higher initial cost.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Jeep Patriot a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Biggest RegretI bought my 2010 Jeep Patriot in the fall of 2016 after driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla and honestly, I wish I would of just kept the Corolla. I have had issue after issue with this car including the CVT transmission needing to be replaced less than a year of owning it, the struts going bad, at least 5 new tires, a very loud rattling noise in the front, replaced the battery about 2 years ago and has needed to be jumped about 3 or 4 times since AND I still have about $800 worth of repairs that are needed to be done but I'm getting a new car today. Cannot wait to get rid of this piece of junk. Save yourself the hassle and DO NOT BUY!

One of the Best! This vehicle has been amazing for me. It does have a CVT Transmission (the only real issue with it) and CVT sucks. But it has been so reliable, I love it!

Good smaller SUV, but horrible transmissionsI loved my jeep and has gotten me a lot of places, but I am currently having to put its 4th new transmission in it. Besides the transmission, everything works great. I wished it had more room between the middle seats and front seats.

Costs more to repair than we owe on it!This car seemed like a good deal when we first bought it, but over the last 3 years (, it's a 2010), we've paid more in repairs than what we owe on it! Replacing Brakes- pads, shoes, rotors-, tie rods, control arms, and tires are all common now- and we don't dare take it of road, as it's advertised as being able to do. Our mechanic finally told us why- the vehicle itself is too heavy for its suspension, steering, and brake system. It's a design flaw, correctable only with expensive, after-market parts that are more sturdy than OEM ones. But that just means the parts *may* last a bit longer- the original design flaws will still remain. And you can't haul or plow much of anything with it, either- you need high torque in low speeds, which this vehicle doesn't have. Apparently, that's more like the Cherokee or higher. I wish we would have known all this before we bought it.

Jeep should have done a recallI bought my patriot at 89000 miles in 2016. I commute daily about 60 miles round trip so that plus occasionally going out of town has me at 159000 right now. I love my jeep but it has an awful transmission issue. The ABS and traction lights come on and stay on for long periods of time. If I drive at high speed for longer than 30 minutes it will overheat and become too sluggish to drive. I read that this is a huge issue in patriot, liberty, and compass jeeps through 2016 models. They should do a recall. I really like my jeep but I can't go long distance in it. I'm about to trade it in on a car I can't deal with it anymore.

Worst investment I have ever madeWhile I like the looks I have made many repairs to this Jeep. Over the last 2 years I have spent over 5000.00 and could no longer justify keeping it.

This jeep saved my life when a lady ran a red lighI replaced it with another 2016 Jeep Patriot. Miss my 2010 but enjoying the 2016 and peace of mind that I am safe. Thank you Jeep for making a vehicle that after rolling three times I could walk away from.

Great car for small family, or business.Reliable and fun with ample storage, and decent fuel economy. It worked well in the snow, and was a pretty comfortable vehicle to drive overall.

loves to throw computer codes, rustLike the size and gas mileage. Don't like the rust under carriage and computer codes expensive to fix. Should not have purchased it. Sub par to other vehicles in its class. Never own another Jeep product again.
