The 2011 Jeep Patriot is a compact SUV known for its Jeep heritage and affordability. Produced as part of the Patriot's initial run (2007-2017), it offers a classic boxy SUV body style. Key trims include the Sport, Latitude, and Limited. New, the 2011 Patriot ranged approximately from $16,000 to $22,000. Its Jeep styling and off-road capability (particularly in the 4x4 models) at a lower price point than other SUVs made it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2011 Jeep Patriot appeals to both practical and emotional buyers. It offers a classic Jeep design and available four-wheel drive for off-road adventures (emotional). Its key advantages are affordability, reasonable fuel economy for its class, and a simple, easy-to-maintain design (practical). The Patriot provides a basic level of comfort and utility.

The Bad

Known weaknesses of the 2011 Jeep Patriot include its somewhat underpowered engines, especially with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). The interior is often criticized for its hard plastics and basic design. Reliability can be a concern, with reports of issues with the CVT transmission and electrical components. Potential buyers should also check for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2011 Jeep Patriot Have?

Frequently reported problems with the 2011 Jeep Patriot include issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). The CVT can be prone to premature failure, especially if not properly maintained, leading to costly repairs or replacement. Other reported problems include electrical issues, such as problems with the alternator, sensors, and power windows. Suspension components, like ball joints and tie rod ends, can also wear out relatively quickly, particularly in areas with rough roads. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system. Rust can be a concern, especially in areas with road salt. It's important to check for rust around the undercarriage, wheel wells, and door seams.

Recalls for the 2011 Jeep Patriot have addressed issues such as potential problems with the fuel tank check valve and the side impact airbags. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure that all applicable recalls have been performed. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the CVT transmission and the relatively low build quality compared to some competitors. Regular maintenance, especially fluid changes for the CVT, is crucial to extending the vehicle's lifespan.

How long will the 2011 Jeep Patriot last?

With proper maintenance, a 2011 Jeep Patriot can realistically reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. However, the long-term durability largely depends on maintenance habits, especially regarding the CVT transmission. Neglecting fluid changes can significantly shorten its lifespan. Rust can become a major issue over time, particularly in colder climates. Components like the suspension, brakes, and electrical systems are also prone to wear and tear. Owners who perform regular maintenance and address issues promptly can expect a longer lifespan from their Patriot.

Negative Owner Reviews

This car made a lot of trips to the shop in the first month of my purchase. The car was overpriced when I? bought it and it was disappointing that so much work had to be done to it.

I purchased a 2011 Jeep Patriot Sport which was the first brand new vehicle that I had ever purchased. I was very excited that I was getting someone else's problems. After about 15,000 miles I started to hear a odd noise in the front. When I brought it to the dealership they told me that vehicles make noise. Believing the dealership I continued to drive it. When it got warmer the noise went away. The following winter the noise came back and it was worse and it began to handle poorly. By this time the dealership that I had purchased the vehicle from had gone out of business and was dealing with another dealership. They finally replace just about everything in the front end. Low and behold, the noise came back. In addition within the first 36000 miles, I had 9 sensors go, and had to replace all four tires because of the suspension issues. After minimal help from Chrysler and the fact that I did not have the time to deal with a lawyer on this, I decided to cut my losses and not only trade it it for another vehicle, but I went with a completely different vehicle all together. Not only am I completely dissatisfied with the vehicle it self, the construction and the Low Fuel Economy (14-19mpg), but Chryslers customer service was terrible to deal with. I got the run-around, and waited several days for them to do anything. For example....they told me at 9 am when I brought my Jeep in for a warranty item that I would get a rental car, it was not until 3:30pm that I got a rental car. Not because they didn't have any, but because the person failed to make a 30 second call to the dealership to get the authorization for the rental car. I paid an extra for the best warranty to have service like that. I was considering trading in my truck for a Ram, and with the customer service that I got, I will never buy another Chrysler product.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Jeep Patriot offers a fairly basic level of technology and features. Standard entertainment features include a CD player and an auxiliary audio input jack. Higher trims like the Latitude and Limited offered optional features like satellite radio and upgraded audio systems. Navigation was available as an option on some models.

Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern vehicles. Electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes were standard. Optional safety features included side curtain airbags and front side airbags. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking available.

Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vary. The IIHS gave the 2011 Patriot a "Good" rating in the moderate overlap front crash test, but lower ratings in other tests. NHTSA ratings vary depending on the specific test, but overall the Patriot received mixed reviews. The mixed safety ratings should be considered when evaluating this vehicle.

2011 Jeep Patriot Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Jeep Patriot ranged from approximately $16,000 to $22,000, depending on the trim and options. As of today, used market prices typically range from $4,000 to $10,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Patriot has depreciated significantly due to its age, reliability concerns, and the availability of newer, more technologically advanced SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and whether it has four-wheel drive. Models with the 2.4L engine and 4WD generally hold their value slightly better.

2011 Jeep Patriot Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Jeep Patriot is generally considered economical to own, although repair costs can be unpredictable. Insurance costs are typically lower than for larger SUVs. Fuel economy is reasonable for its class. Maintenance costs are average, but potential CVT transmission repairs can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs will depend heavily on how well the vehicle has been maintained and the type of driving it has experienced. Regular maintenance is crucial to avoid costly repairs.

2011 Jeep Patriot Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Jeep Patriot is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Jeep Patriot Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2011 Jeep Patriot competes with vehicles like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Patriot lags behind these rivals, particularly in acceleration and refinement. Its engine options are less powerful, and the CVT transmission can be sluggish. Feature-wise, the Patriot offers fewer amenities and less advanced technology compared to its competitors. Reliability is also a weak point for the Patriot, with more reported issues than the CR-V and RAV4. However, the Patriot's main advantage is its price, being significantly more affordable than the aforementioned competitors, both when new and on the used market.

Alternatives to the 2011 Jeep Patriot include the Honda CR-V, which offers better reliability and features, albeit at a higher price. The Toyota RAV4 is another strong contender, known for its reliability and resale value. The Ford Escape provides a more modern driving experience and better fuel economy. If budget is a major concern and off-road capability isn't essential, consider a Mazda3 hatchback for improved fuel economy and driving dynamics. For those prioritizing off-road capability within the Jeep family, consider a used Jeep Liberty, which offers more robust off-road features than the Patriot.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Jeep Patriot a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2011 Jeep Patriot is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a Jeep-branded SUV with some off-road capability. It is best considered as a used vehicle, given its age. Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition, maintenance history, and price. A well-maintained model with the 2.4L engine and 4WD might be a good value for someone who needs basic transportation and occasional off-road use. However, potential buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle for rust and CVT transmission issues before purchasing. Consider models with the manual transmission to avoid CVT problems. If reliability and features are a priority, explore alternatives like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4.

Great city/mountain shuttle vehicle

This Jeep is a great size for the city and to take on light trails. Having the versatility in the city to have some more car, clearance, and something to go from city to a place to hike of get out and explore is something this vehicle will do. It will have limitations, but does what I need it to do. Great buy

Useless after 8 years

I really loved this car but Jeep did a horrible job designing the bottom of it. It rusted out to the point where they would replace the cross members but that was it! They would not replace the other thousands of dollars worth of rusted items. I was forced to buy a new car and you can guess I didn't go with Jeep.

Grandmas first Jeep and red st that!

I've never been in a Jeep other than for family trips where it was provided for an excursion. Wanted something sturdy yet reliable and not overly big. Considering it's a 4x4 it gets decent mileage. It's also very easy to drive. I don't mind transporting my two twin grandkids around with me in it. I feel they are safe and secure. Hope to have it for awhile.

Least reliable car I've owned

I am beyond ecstatic that this car is off my hands. I just traded it in for a brand new ford. It makes me sad because I bought this car used at the end 2014. It was perfect, great price, all the bells and whistles and very comfortable to drive. In the beginning of 2017 about 2.5 years in my transmission completely breaks. I still owe quite a bit on the loan for the car so I have no choice but to replace it $3500 later. In 2018 I have to replace the entire front axel because the car was no longer safe to drive. I start to notice towards the end of that year the transmission starts to skip again. Finally in 2019 my finance goes to replace the break pads on the car and everything is completely rusted out on both back tires rendering this thing completely unsafe to drive. I've never had a vehicle cause so many stressors. It financially drained us more than once and left me stranded more than once as well. Thank goodness for AAA. I'm so happy I never have to drive this car again.
