The Good
The 2001 Altima offered a good balance. Practical buyers appreciated its reliability and decent fuel efficiency for its class. Comfort was adequate, and the design was generally well-received. The available V6 provided satisfying performance, appealing to those seeking a more engaging driving experience. It presented excellent value for money, offering a compelling combination of features and performance at an affordable price point.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses in the 2001 Altima include potential issues with the automatic transmission, particularly in the V6 models. Rust can also be a concern, especially in regions with harsh winters. Suspension components, such as struts and bushings, may require replacement due to wear and tear over time. Oil leaks can occur as the engine ages. Analysis
What Problems Does the 2001 Nissan Altima Have?
Oil leaks, particularly from the valve cover gasket or rear main seal, can occur as the engine ages. Some owners have also reported issues with the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which can cause poor engine performance and fuel economy. Electrical problems, while less common, can sometimes occur with the power windows or door locks. Recalls for the 2001 Altima were relatively limited, so it's best to check the NHTSA website for any specific recalls related to the VIN of a particular vehicle. Long-term reliability depends heavily on maintenance history. Neglecting regular maintenance can exacerbate these issues and lead to more significant problems down the road. Pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) were available as an option on some trims. Side airbags were not available. In terms of crash-test ratings, the 2001 Nissan Altima received mixed results from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It generally scored well in frontal crash tests but had lower ratings in side-impact tests. Keep in mind that crash-test standards have evolved significantly since 2001, so these ratings should be viewed in context. The lack of advanced safety features is a significant consideration when evaluating this vehicle today. It's important to remember this car is over two decades old, so modern tech and safety should not be expected.

How Does the 2001 Nissan Altima Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of price, the Altima was generally competitive, often undercutting the Accord and Camry. As for alternatives, a well-maintained Honda Accord or Toyota Camry from the same era might offer slightly better long-term reliability. The Mazda 626 could be a similar alternative, offering a sportier driving experience. The Ford Taurus, while spacious, generally lagged behind in terms of reliability and driving dynamics. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and the condition of specific vehicles being considered. If reliability is paramount, the Accord or Camry might be preferable. If price is the primary concern, and a well-maintained Altima is found, it can be a good value.

repair issues: radiator, alternator, suspensionNissan did not do us any favors with this car. Alternator, A/C, radiator, front end, hoses, cooling system. Many costly repairs. I would avoid Nissans.

My baby is turning 18220k and still going; replaced intake manifold gasket, alternator, front struts, EVAP sensors, knock sensor, belts, brakes, water pump, valve cover gasket, exhaust pipe and speakers. All repairs did by myself. I purchased this car before my kids were born, now they are driving it. Everything is working including AC.

Best Reliable (never old as it seems to be)It is some years old model car only but with performance it's not old, it'll run like new car. It has power seat and steering which I didn't expect when I test drove while buying it.

Top quality NissanThis car is like Jason Vorhees, it won't die. The engine is still strong after 16 years & the body is in impeccable shape. I haven't had to replace any parts under the hood beyond the spark plugs & wires. If you treat this car nice, it will serve you twice as well. The maintenance is cheap & the car is easy to work on yourself. It's a perfect car for someone that's just starting out. The only drawback to this Altima is how low it sits to the ground, it's sport car low for no reason.
