The Good
The 2012 Altima offered a comfortable ride and decent handling (appealing to practical buyers). The available V6 provided satisfying performance (emotional appeal). Fuel efficiency on the 4-cylinder models was respectable. Its simple design was inoffensive. Overall, it provided a good value proposition as a reliable and spacious mid-size sedan for daily use.
The Bad
The 2012 Altima's interior materials were sometimes criticized for feeling low-quality. Some owners reported issues with the CVT transmission, especially in earlier model years of this generation, so checking its condition is crucial. Road noise could also be noticeable at highway speeds. Oil consumption issues have also been reported.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Built-in tech was relatively basic for its time. Navigation was available as an optional feature on higher trims, integrated into the center console.
Driver-assistance features were limited. It didn't offer modern features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning. Cruise control was available on the S trim and above.
Standard safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control, and a full suite of airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Optional safety features included a rearview camera (available on some higher trims).
Crash Test Ratings: The 2012 Nissan Altima generally performed well in crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded it "Good" ratings in most crash tests, although results may vary based on specific test criteria and model variations. It is always advisable to check the latest safety ratings from both NHTSA and IIHS for the most up-to-date information. The lack of advanced driver-assistance systems makes it less technologically advanced than newer vehicles.

How Does the 2012 Nissan Altima Compare to Other Coupe?
In terms of features, the Altima was generally competitive, although some rivals offered more advanced technology features at the time.
For reliability, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are often considered better choices. If reliability is a top priority and budget allows, a Camry or Accord from the same year might be a better alternative. However, if you prioritize a slightly sportier drive and are willing to accept potentially higher maintenance costs (particularly regarding the CVT), the Altima can be a viable option. The Mazda 6 of a similar year offers great handling and reliability as well.

Final Verdict: Is the 2012 Nissan Altima a Good Coupe?
Whether it's worth buying depends on the individual vehicle's condition and maintenance history. A well-maintained example with documented CVT service can be a good value. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended, especially to assess the CVT's condition and check for oil leaks. The 2.5S is often a good balance of features and fuel economy. Consider a Camry or Accord if reliability is the absolute top priority.

Most independent car I have owned. This Nissan altima is a great car. It just had a new transmission put in it. New oil change and also new tires. My husband is a mechanic so maintenance on my car has always been up to date. This is a life long car if it's continued to be taken care of. The interior is clean and like new. 5500 obo

Most Reliable Car I owndedThis car met all of my needs. I need something with good gas mileage would last me a long time and not need a lot of work done to it. I loved the auto start on my vehicle and the bluetooth connection to make calls without having my cellphone in my hand. The sunroof was a bonus and allowed enough room for myself and my husband (who is 6ft 5in)! Definitely recommend and would buy again from Nissan.

Extremely reliable, durable and inexpensive to ownGreat looking car. Thrash it unmercifully and it never missed a beat and still delivers about 20 mpg. Extremely reliable and parts are cheap. Easy to work on yourself if you choose to. SL trim package has mapping/gps, 5 CD system with Bluetooth, plus a plug in for your cell tunes, Bose sound system, rear view camera, leather/vinyl interior, sun roof, body package upgrades. Big fan of keyless start and run system. Can't say enough great things about my 2007, I do wish it had more power, but, I would only pickup more speeding tickets.
