The Good
The 2004 Altima offered a comfortable ride and spacious cabin appealing to practical buyers. The available V6 engine provided strong acceleration, satisfying those seeking a more engaging driving experience. While not the most reliable, it offered good value for its price. The design, while somewhat understated, was generally well-received.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2004 Altima include issues with the automatic transmission (especially in early models), excessive oil consumption in some engines, and potential rust problems in certain climates. Premature catalytic converter failure was also a concern. Check for these issues before purchasing a used model.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment was relatively basic by today's standards, focusing on audio playback. There was no navigation system or Bluetooth connectivity available. As for crash-test ratings, the 2004 Nissan Altima generally performed well in government crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it favorable ratings for frontal and side-impact protection. However, ratings can vary depending on the specific test and model year, so it's recommended to consult official sources for precise figures. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted crash tests, providing further insights into the vehicle's safety performance. How Does the 2004 Nissan Altima Compare to Other Sedan?
Feature-wise, the Altima was comparable to its rivals, although the Accord and Camry generally had better reputations for build quality. Pricewise, the Altima was often more affordable than the Honda and Toyota, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, the potential for costly repairs may negate those savings in the long run. Alternatives to the 2004 Altima include a similarly aged Honda Accord or Toyota Camry if reliability is a primary concern, even if it means paying a bit more upfront. A Mazda 6 from the same era could also be a good choice for those seeking a sportier driving experience with potentially better reliability than the Altima. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities and budget.

Had it 20 years!Next month, our Altima 4 cyl. Will be 20 years old. We bought it new. I never thought I would be able to keep a car this long. It is nowhere near worn out. Has 123,000+ miles, runs smoothly, gets 17 mpg in city driving, from 27-32 on highway, depending on the terrain. I have gotten 32 on level highway. No rust, paint looks good. Interior is in good shape. This has been an amazing car. And itβs not done yet.

Very reliable car. This car met and exceeded all my needs. I owned this car for a little while it was a used vehicle. I was recently in an accident and this car saved my life! All the safety features are phenomenal. It rides comfortably and seats five to six people. The four-cylinder engine that was in this vehicle is definitely great on gas.
