The Good
The 2006 Altima offered a blend of practicality and fun. Performance, especially with the V6, appealed to those seeking a more engaging drive. The comfortable interior and smooth ride satisfied practical needs. Its design was considered sporty for its time, and it offered good value for the features provided. While not known for exceptional reliability, it was generally dependable with proper maintenance.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited. Cruise control was available on the S trim and higher.
Safety features included standard front airbags, side-impact airbags (optional on some trims), and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was not standard across all trims, which is a significant difference compared to today's vehicles.
Optional features included a sunroof, leather seats, and automatic climate control, depending on the trim level.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally showed good performance in frontal and side-impact tests. However, it's important to consult specific NHTSA reports for detailed ratings based on the body style and model year. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided ratings, which are helpful for understanding the vehicle's safety performance in various crash scenarios. Keep in mind that safety standards have evolved significantly since 2006.

How Does the 2006 Nissan Altima Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of features, the Altima was competitive, offering a good range of options for its price point. However, the Accord and Camry often held a slight edge in terms of perceived quality and available features.
Considering reliability and long-term costs, the Toyota Camry would generally be considered a better alternative due to its reputation for dependability. The Honda Accord is another excellent option, providing a balance of reliability, performance, and features. If sporty handling is a top priority and you're willing to accept potentially higher maintenance costs, the Altima SE-R could still be a contender, but otherwise, the Camry or Accord are safer bets.

The car was a gift not to me!!!!Getting my license reinstated and receiving this car at no cost and so far 2 years and Iβve had one problem and it was the starter! This vehicle means a lot to me!!

Bought it cheapI bought it for cheap and have put more money into it than what I paid for it due to all of the problems. I have 128,488 miles and breaks have failed, sensor wouldnβt let the car start, wheel bearings locked up, and has an catalytic converter problem. These are just a few things Iβve had to fix not all of it

Awesome RideMom bought this car new; it was fresh off the delivery truck when we test drove it. The first test drive odometer had less than 1 mile! Itβs been a great car, no major issues, and very reliable! Now I am the proud owner, still going strong! Love the mpg, and the 2.5 has plenty of pep for daily driving. I would buy another one before one of the newer CVTs!

Great car for getting around, comfortable ride.Good headroom, good a/c & heat, powerful front wheel drive, still gives impressive mpg. Good mid-sized car with a roomy cabin, comfortable seats, good fuel economy, strong engine, and a gentle ride.

I bought this second 06 altima for a reason!After I accidently totaled my first 06 Altima, I later bought a second one for $5,000 in 2018 (yes it was 12 years old). It had 80,000 miles on it, and now it has 120,000. Between both vehicles, I have never had a reliability problem! Just regular maintenance. I did have to replace the shocks in this one, but it's to be expected in a 13 year old vehicle. It just feels like a solid car that will last as long as you want as long as you take proper care of it. I get over 30mpg on the highway with cruise control on. I put snow tires on it in the winter and it will go anywhere in the snow. It feel safe, and has perfect crash test ratings. I think I will buy another one of these before buying a newer Altima, because I'm afraid of those newer CVT transmissions. I'm in nursing school, and I wanted a reliable, comfortable, roomy, safe, and economical car, and that exactly what it is. I also had an 08 Altima, and I did prefer it's seats compared to these models, they are too short for taller adults. I find myself readjusting myself often and it can be uncomfortable. Great car, I scared to buy a newer one, but if they are anything like this generation, they are well worth the money and will last just as long as a Toyota or Honda.

My First Car ExperienceThe car got me from point A to point B which was what I was just hoping I could get for my first car. But what became apparent was that the specific car that I owned had a lot of maintenance that needed attending. I found out that the previous owners didn't take good care of the car so they basically handed over to me a car on it's last legs, so I'm positive not all Nissan Altimas are like this. Overall, the money required to maintain the car became too much for me and I realized I could have spent all my money into a more reliable car.

Super dependable!!The only slight complaint I could have about this car is the seats aren't comfortable over long periods of time say 3+ hours. I have owned my 06 Altima for over 5 years now and have taken it from 92k to 196k and it's still my daily driver today. It has never left me stranded and the 4 cylinder engine has PLENTY of power for keeping up in traffic. It's also very adequate for snowy winter driving. Best car I have owned!! The style is also great, there is a reason the new Kia Optimas have a familiar silhouette (;

Car sensors fail regularI think the car is a death trap and a money pit and nissan does not care. car goes into safe mode and will not go over 1800 RPM's
