The 2014 Nissan Rogue represents the beginning of the Rogue's second generation. This compact SUV offers a comfortable ride and practical features. It's available as a 4-door SUV. Key trims include the S, SV, and SL. The original pricing ranged from around $22,000 to $30,000. It stands out for its available third-row seating (rare in its class), fuel efficiency, and comfortable interior, making it a popular choice for families and commuters. The 2014 Rogue was a redesigned model, offering a fresh look and updated features.
The Good

The 2014 Nissan Rogue offers a smooth and comfortable ride, appealing to those seeking relaxed driving. Its fuel efficiency makes it practical for daily commutes. The redesigned exterior provides a modern aesthetic. While not a performance vehicle, its practicality and comfortable interior offer good value, especially for families needing space and efficiency. Reliability is generally considered average for its class.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 Nissan Rogue include its continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has been known to experience issues. Some owners have reported problems with the electrical system and the air conditioning. The engine performance can feel underpowered, particularly when fully loaded. Be sure to check for transmission slipping or unusual noises during a test drive. Excessive oil consumption can be an issue as well.

What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan Rogue Have?

The 2014 Nissan Rogue has several frequently reported problems and recalls. One of the most significant concerns is the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Many owners have reported issues like slipping, jerking, and complete transmission failure, often requiring costly replacements. This issue seems more prevalent in earlier model years of this generation. Another common problem is related to the electrical system. Owners have reported issues with the battery draining quickly, malfunctioning sensors, and problems with the infotainment system. Some have also mentioned issues with the air conditioning system not working correctly. There have been recalls issued for the 2014 Rogue. Recalls included issues with the fuel pump relay potentially failing, which could cause the engine to stall. Check the NHTSA website for current recall information and whether your specific vehicle is affected. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the CVT. Proper maintenance, including regular fluid changes, is crucial, but even with diligent care, the CVT remains a potential weak point. Oil consumption can also become an issue as the engine ages. It's essential to have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a trusted mechanic, paying close attention to the transmission's condition and overall engine health.

How long will the 2014 Nissan Rogue last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Nissan Rogue can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or last for 10-12 years. However, the lifespan heavily depends on maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely CVT fluid replacements (if applicable to the model and diligently performed), and addressing minor issues promptly are crucial. The CVT is the most significant long-term durability concern. Neglecting CVT maintenance will drastically shorten its lifespan. Rust can also be a factor in regions with harsh winters. The engine itself is generally durable, but issues related to oil consumption may arise with age. Thorough inspections are essential when considering a used model.

This car meets all my needs cause I'm short and it's hard to find vehicles I can see over the hood.Love my new car and so glad I went to get it.

I am tall and this car has plenty of legroom for me. It is equipped with all the extras for my teenagers and myself. It handles very nicely on the road. It has hands free rear hatch or push the button from the inside of the car or a button on the remote of the car. This comes in handy when you have a hand full of stuff. I love this car. I dont particularly like the gas button but I can deal with it

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Nissan Rogue comes with a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include a rearview camera, which is helpful for parking. The S trim offers basic Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port for entertainment. Moving up to the SV trim adds NissanConnect with mobile apps, allowing integration with smartphone apps and services. The SL trim boasts a Bose audio system and a navigation system. Driver-assistance features vary depending on the trim level. The SL trim includes an Around View Monitor, providing a 360-degree view around the vehicle, and blind-spot monitoring. Optional on the SL trim was a Premium Package, which added features like LED headlights and advanced safety technologies such as lane departure warning and forward collision warning. In terms of safety, the 2014 Nissan Rogue performed well in crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it a 4-star overall safety rating. 2014 Nissan Rogue Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Nissan Rogue had a starting MSRP of around $22,490 for the base S trim, reaching up to approximately $30,000 for a fully loaded SL model. Currently, used market prices range from approximately $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Rogue has depreciated significantly due to age and reported reliability concerns, particularly with the CVT. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance records, and whether any major repairs (like a transmission replacement) have been performed. Models with lower mileage and a clean maintenance history will command higher prices.

2014 Nissan Rogue Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Nissan Rogue generally has average insurance costs compared to other compact SUVs. Fuel costs are relatively low due to its decent fuel economy. Routine maintenance, like oil changes and tire rotations, is also reasonably priced. However, potential CVT repairs or replacements can significantly increase long-term ownership costs. Due to potential CVT and other electrical issues, the Rogue can be more costly to own in the long run compared to some competitors. Careful maintenance and a thorough pre-purchase inspection are essential to mitigate these risks. Repair costs for the CVT can be substantial.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Rogue Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Nissan Rogue competes with vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Rogue's 2.5-liter engine is less powerful than some rivals, like the Ford Escape's optional turbocharged engines. The RAV4 and CR-V generally offer better reliability ratings. The Mazda CX-5 provides a more engaging driving experience. Regarding features, the Rogue's available third-row seating gives it an edge over most competitors. However, the CR-V and RAV4 offer more cargo space. The Rogue's NissanConnect infotainment system is less intuitive than some competitors' systems. In terms of price, the Rogue is often competitively priced, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, the potential for costly CVT repairs makes it a riskier purchase. Alternatives to consider include the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, which offer better reliability and resale value. The Mazda CX-5 is a more fun-to-drive option. If reliability is a top priority, the RAV4 or CR-V would be better choices, even if they cost slightly more upfront. The Ford Escape can be considered but also has known reliability quirks.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan Rogue a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Nissan Rogue is ideal for buyers prioritizing fuel efficiency, comfortable ride, and available third-row seating at a budget-friendly price. However, its long-term reliability, especially regarding the CVT, is a significant concern. Whether it's worth buying depends on the individual's risk tolerance and budget. If considering a used model, a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is crucial, focusing on the transmission's condition. Look for models with well-documented maintenance records. It might be worthwhile for buyers on a tight budget who are willing to accept the risk of potential CVT repairs. Otherwise, more reliable alternatives like the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V might be a better investment in the long run. Avoid models with a history of CVT problems or neglected maintenance.

Stay away from a car with this type of transmiss

CVT transmissions fails too soon compared to other manufacturers, and are not rebuildable. Purchase of a new transmission is the only option and the cost is around $6000.

recall joke

water collecting on floor caused by leak around steering shaft grommet causing corrosion at wiring connector on floor .nissan,s fix is to grease connector if that doesn't work then owner needs to replace wiring harness at a cost of $484.59 also to stop leak costs $176.02 but Nissan will cover the cost of the grease

Transmission went out before 60,000

I do not drive it often and I take care of my car. I was told the Transmission was back at below 60,000 miles, and since it was out of the 5 year time frame, I have to eat the cost of a new transmission!!!

This has a been a great vehicle overall.

This car has been great overall. There is an issue where the car has had water intrusion from a failed sealant under the car and the floor board has been wet and underneath rusted. Ive road this suv for 170k and its been a good vehicle besides that issue Everyone at Pat Peck has been very attentive, professional, helpful and friendly. I’ve had all my oil changes and inspections here.

Perfect mix of form & function!

I love this car! I've had it 6 years now, and have not had any mechanical issues whatsoever. I wanted a car that could comfortably fix my teenager and his friends in the back seat, with plenty of leg and head room, and it's wonderful for this. Very comfortable road-trip car. I also do a lot of home remodeling work and I love that I can fold the seats down and fit an 8' pipe or wood in the car. I do wish that it had more towing capacity (only about 1,000 lbs), but not a big deal for me. This is a great vehicle, and I've had a friend and my mother both buy these, based on my recommendation, and they are both thrilled with theirs, too.
