Rating: 4.34
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2015 Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV that gained popularity for its fuel efficiency, comfortable ride, and available third-row seating (on some models). It's part of the second generation Rogue, produced from 2014-2020. Key trims include S, SV, and SL. New pricing ranged roughly from $23,000 to $30,000. It stands out for its spacious interior and good gas mileage for its class.
The Good

The 2015 Nissan Rogue offers a comfortable and spacious interior, appealing to those valuing practicality. Its fuel efficiency is a major advantage, attracting budget-conscious buyers. The stylish design provides an emotional appeal, while its smooth ride quality adds to the overall comfort, making it a practical and enjoyable choice for daily commutes.

The Bad

The 2015 Nissan Rogue's weaknesses include its somewhat underpowered engine, leading to sluggish acceleration. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) has been a source of concern for some owners, with potential reliability issues. Some also find the third-row seating (when equipped) cramped and better suited for children.

What Problems Does the 2015 Nissan Rogue Have?

The 2015 Nissan Rogue has faced several frequently reported problems, primarily concerning its Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Many owners have reported issues such as jerking, slipping, and complete transmission failure, often requiring costly replacements. This is a significant long-term reliability concern.

Another common issue involves the electrical system, with reports of malfunctioning sensors, including those related to the airbags and ABS. Some owners have also reported problems with the air conditioning system, experiencing weak or inconsistent cooling.

Recalls for the 2015 Rogue have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks due to faulty fuel pump flange rings, which could increase the risk of fire. Other recalls have related to issues with the airbags and seatbelts. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recall notices before purchasing a used model. The CVT issues are often more prevalent in higher-mileage examples, so regular maintenance and careful driving habits are crucial to potentially mitigate problems.

How long will the 2015 Nissan Rogue last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Nissan Rogue can reasonably reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles, potentially lasting 10-13 years. However, the CVT's long-term durability is a significant factor. Regular CVT fluid changes (every 30,000 miles) are crucial to extending its lifespan. Neglecting this can lead to premature failure. Other potential long-term weaknesses include suspension components and electrical issues, but these are generally less critical than the CVT. Owners who prioritize preventative maintenance and address issues promptly are more likely to achieve higher mileage and years of service.

This car did not meet my needs. From the moment I got it, I had problems with it 3 days later. Now it’s hard to trade out of it. I must have some sort of water damage from the sunroof that decides to leak after every drop of rain from the sky or car wash. The engine stalls and overall just do not like the car.

Do not buy vehicle it a piece of trash for amount you have to pay. Transmission have completely went out and I still owe on vehicle. It cost a about 6, 0000 to fix transmission. This car is big on problems with transmission. I bought the vehicle brand new. Yes , I commute back and fourth to work ,but I thought Nissans was good cars.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Nissan Rogue offers a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard on all trims is a rearview camera and Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling. Higher trims (SV and SL) add a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with NissanConnect apps.

Entertainment features include a standard four-speaker audio system (S trim), while the SV and SL trims offer a six-speaker system. The SL trim further upgrades to a Bose audio system. Navigation is available as an option on higher trims.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. The 2015 Rogue received good crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). 2015 Nissan Rogue Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Nissan Rogue ranged from approximately $23,000 for the base S trim to around $30,000 for a fully equipped SL model. As of late 2023, used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Rogue has experienced significant depreciation, which is typical for vehicles in this class. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, service history (especially CVT fluid changes), and any outstanding recalls. Models with higher mileage or a history of CVT problems will command lower prices.

2015 Nissan Rogue Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Nissan Rogue is generally considered economical to own, primarily due to its good fuel efficiency. Insurance costs are typically average for its class. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, is relatively affordable. However, potential CVT repairs or replacements can significantly increase long-term ownership costs. Budgeting for regular CVT fluid changes is essential. Overall, if the CVT is well-maintained and doesn't require major repairs, the Rogue can be a cost-effective choice.

2015 Nissan Rogue Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Nissan Rogue is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Nissan Rogue Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Nissan Rogue competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Rogue lags behind the CX-5 and Escape, which offer more powerful engine options. The CR-V and RAV4 generally offer better long-term reliability than the Rogue, particularly regarding transmission issues. Feature-wise, the Rogue is competitive, especially in higher trims with available features like the Around View Monitor. Price-wise, the Rogue is often more affordable on the used market than the CR-V and RAV4.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota RAV4, known for its reliability and resale value, and the Honda CR-V, which offers a spacious interior and good fuel economy. The Mazda CX-5 provides a more engaging driving experience, while the Ford Escape offers more powerful engine options. If reliability is a top priority, the RAV4 or CR-V are better choices. If budget is a primary concern, the Rogue can be a reasonable option, but be mindful of the CVT's potential issues.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Nissan Rogue a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Nissan Rogue is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a fuel-efficient and spacious compact crossover. It's worth buying used if you find one in good condition with documented CVT maintenance. Prioritize models with lower mileage and a clean service history. Be prepared for potential CVT repairs down the line. The SV trim offers a good balance of features and value. It's best to avoid models with a history of transmission problems. If reliability is your utmost concern, alternatives like the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V might be better choices, even if they cost a bit more. Get a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic to assess the vehicle's overall condition, especially the CVT.

I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue SV with 127,000 miles.

I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue SV with 127,000 miles. The car had been perfect until 2 weeks ago the transmission started slipping. I changed the trans fluid and it still slipped and left me walking on the interstate. I don’t know what to do now because I probably can’t sell it like it is. Very disappointed and unhappy.

Air condition system

The 2015 Nissan Rogue air condition system will freeze specially when drive in summer time and when taking long trips. The condenser will freeze and will stop blowing cold air and it really a pain and concerning when having small children in the vehicle. We’ve had taking our Rogue to the dealership and they seems to not find a problem. Contacted Nissan and they told me to take it to the dealership but again, nothing was fixed. Still having this issue since own the vehicle from 2015.

Waste of money

I bought a used 2015 Roque in 2018, with 68,000 miles. I have to change the transmission at 95,000 miles. Now I'm getting a brake engine light and a chassis control error. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned.

Chassis control system error

My 2015 Nissan Rogue left me stranded by a highway showing chassis control system error. I tried reading about it, only to discover alot of owners experience same problem. Almost all such complaints are still unresolved. That means you will have to keep spending money and time changing one part after the other with no guaranteed results. Pls share if you have successfully resolved such a problem. Thanks
