I scored my Sienna "excellent" based on the fact that, though this vehicle does not have the features of new vehicles, or the performance of newer bigger engines, it shows astronomical worth in functionality and comfort and for an older car, does not drive like an old car. My husband has taken care of regular service and we have never had anything major break that hasn't been due to regular wear and tear. We bought new (first year available) & have had for 17 years (210,000 miles) and it still runs like a clock. Starts in subzero weather, drives in snow, air conditioner works, seats & upholstery are in great shape and the Scotchguard on the fabric STILL works! This vehicle is an amazing example of the already incredible Toyota reliability and quality. There's a reason the design has changed little in 17 years (and I've never bothered to "upgrade.") I've loved every reliable year I've been able to trust this van to get us around safely and will actually miss moving on.

This car saw us through a lot of trips to the sports fields and dog parks. No engine issues, driven frequently and still reliable at 222,200 miles. The passenger-side rear power door needs to be opened manually, rather than with either the key fob or the interior button. We are selling because we would like a hauling vehicle.

I use this van to carry my pottery to festivals and to transport my 3 dogs on vacations. It's been a great vehicle. It's comfortable and well designed, it's got plenty of horsepower, and plenty of performance. With all the seats in the van still has room for a bunch of luggage and it never seems to feel weighed down. I love this van.

To this day (the current 2011 model), this car is using a plastic coated steel wire as part of power sliding door mechanism. The plastic coating in my van (2004 Sienna XLE Limited AWD) dried up and cracked, exposing the steel wire. When this happens, the door will be hard to open. When the steel is completely exposed, eventually the cable can snap. It happened to me and my doors (yes, both sliding doors) are only in manual mode now. I was told that it would cost $2000/door to fix. It is NOT covered under ANY of the warranty. Front doors have welding issues that when you open and close them, they make a LOUD "snapping" noise. The model that I have came with runflat tires. They are convenient when you have a flat. But they wear out faster that regular tires and very expensive to replace. If you have an AWD version like mine, you have to replace all 4 at the same time. Each tire can cost you around $250 installed.

Like hundreds (thousands?) of other '04 Sienna owners, we have experienced a failure of the passenger side slider door motor -TWICE. Toyota know they have a design flaw on their hands and yet, amazingly, is doing NOTHING about it. The repair costs $1500-2000 each time. We've also had numerous other quality issues - interior trim pieces breaking, Cd player dying JUST after the warranty period expired, and several others. We've purchased a dozen new cars over the years, and the Sienna was easily the WORST. We bought a Toyota largely based on their supposed reliability; but we've learned, like thousands of other owners, that this was a sham.

The first and only minivan I like.

Well it fits all 7 members of my family. Has pretty good gas mileage. It is comfortable and doesn't take 3 years to get up to 35-40 miles per hour.

Love this van!

I scored my Sienna "excellent" based on the fact that, though this vehicle does not have the features of new vehicles, or the performance of newer bigger engines, it shows astronomical worth in functionality and comfort and for an older car, does not drive like an old car. My husband has taken care of regular service and we have never had anything major break that hasn't been due to regular wear and tear. We bought new (first year available) & have had for 17 years (210,000 miles) and it still runs like a clock. Starts in subzero weather, drives in snow, air conditioner works, seats & upholstery are in great shape and the Scotchguard on the fabric STILL works! This vehicle is an amazing example of the already incredible Toyota reliability and quality. There's a reason the design has changed little in 17 years (and I've never bothered to "upgrade.") I've loved every reliable year I've been able to trust this van to get us around safely and will actually miss moving on.

Best vehicle we’ve ever owned

Clocked 240,000 miles, only ever had minor issues. No rust, original transmission and engine. Solid, reliable van, can carry a ton. Comfortable & well built.

Still reliable at 222,200 miles.

This car saw us through a lot of trips to the sports fields and dog parks. No engine issues, driven frequently and still reliable at 222,200 miles. The passenger-side rear power door needs to be opened manually, rather than with either the key fob or the interior button. We are selling because we would like a hauling vehicle.

Great Van

I use this van to carry my pottery to festivals and to transport my 3 dogs on vacations. It's been a great vehicle. It's comfortable and well designed, it's got plenty of horsepower, and plenty of performance. With all the seats in the van still has room for a bunch of luggage and it never seems to feel weighed down. I love this van.

Best car I ever owned

As a former SUV owner (4runner and Rodeo) I was reluctant to change to an AWD minivan. This vehicle exceeded my expectations in all regards and Toyota took care of almost all unexpected issues.

Bought new and still going strong

Raised my kids with this car. Incredibly reliable. Lots of room for kids, grandparents, and all their stuff. At 197,000 miles and can’t bare to give it up. Doesn’t have all the fancy new gear like backup camera, but this car continues to go strong with minor repairs.

Electrical issue shuts off engine while driving

Outstanding, have 304,000 on it and still going strong. Recently, engine will shut down momentarily and then comes back on. Appears caused by going through and electrical field. Happens in same two areas, one state installed a warnig system for trucks to advise of speed concerns on turn. Very scary when happens.

Incredible Family Hauler Still Going Strong

We bought the top of the line AWD model new in 2004, and it is still a great family vehicle after 15 years. It was termed the Lexus of minivans when new. It has the best exterior styling of any minivan ever — still great looking. A few problem areas over the years, now at 120K miles: painted mag wheels corroded and leaked air (we replaced with later model Avalon wheels); automatic rear door cables failed and cost $1200 to replace, each — a rip-off (you can just cut the cable and use manually); the RWD U-joints failed and it cost a lot to replace the articulated drive shaft (probably hastened by road salt); the headlight covers have yellowed. And the 3.3L engine is not very torquey and hunts for the right gear on highway hills — guessing the 3.5 L engine that replaced it in 2005 is a better choice. They also improved the dash layout in 2005, after just one year. But otherwise it has been absolutely reliable. Just brakes and oil changes. The AWD is fabulous in snow and provides absolute traction through any kind of weather, best of any minivan, and better than any of our SUVs — it’s the ultimate family ski vacation vehicle.

I just took a trip with the family to Ontario Canada and I did not have any issues with the car 7 hours goin and 7 hours coming back , no issues at all
