What Problems Does the 2006 Toyota Sienna Have?

The 2006 Toyota Sienna has some frequently reported problems to consider. One common issue is oil leaks, particularly from the valve cover gaskets and oil pan. These leaks can become more prevalent as the vehicle ages and can lead to more serious engine problems if not addressed.

Sliding door malfunctions, especially with the power sliding doors, are also commonly reported. This can involve the doors not opening or closing properly, or making unusual noises. The power door motor or related components may need replacement.

Rust can be a concern, particularly in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Inspect the undercarriage, wheel wells, and body panels for rust before purchasing. Corrosion can weaken structural components and require costly repairs.

While the 2006 Sienna generally has good reliability, some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system, specifically with the rear AC. This can manifest as weak airflow or failure to cool properly. Some recalls may have been issued for the 2006 Sienna, so it's essential to check the NHTSA website for any open recalls related to your VIN.

How long will the 2006 Toyota Sienna last?

With proper maintenance, a 2006 Toyota Sienna can easily exceed 200,000 miles. Many owners report reaching 250,000 to 300,000 miles or more. Consistent oil changes, timely servicing of the transmission, and addressing issues promptly are key to longevity.

Long-term durability concerns include potential rust, as mentioned previously. Additionally, the suspension components, such as struts and bushings, may require replacement over time. The power sliding door mechanisms can also become problematic with age and frequent use. However, the engine and transmission are generally considered robust if maintained well.

The car is perfect. It was well kept by the previous owner. I owned or still own 5 Siennas. This one is a Limited model loaded with leather sun roof etc. all my other Sienna were LE. The only thing I need to get use to are the run flat tires and driving without a spare. M getting there.

I bought this car new. Had some electrical problems (warning lights on) in the first year. Even now there are intermitent problems with with the warning lights. At 55,000 miles AC went down (compressor). Estimated cost of the repair $4,000. It turns out problem is quite common with this vehicle. I will get rid of it as soon as I can.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Toyota Sienna offered a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Base models included standard features like air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a basic audio system. Higher trims like the LE added keyless entry and rear climate control.

The XLE and XLE Limited trims offered more advanced features. These included leather upholstery, power sliding doors, and upgraded audio systems. An optional navigation system was available on the XLE Limited, as was a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones – a sought-after feature for families.

Safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), front airbags, side airbags, and side curtain airbags for all rows. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) was available on some models.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. Rear parking sensors were available as an option on higher trims. Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring were not available.

Crash test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA were generally good for the 2006 Sienna. It typically received high marks for frontal and side impact protection, though specific ratings may vary depending on the testing agency.

2006 Toyota Sienna Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2006 Toyota Sienna ranged from approximately $23,000 for a base CE model to around $35,000 for a fully-loaded XLE Limited. Current used market prices vary significantly based on condition, mileage, and location. Expect to find them ranging from $3,000 to $8,000 or more.

Depreciation has been substantial due to the vehicle's age. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, maintenance records, and whether it has desirable options like the DVD entertainment system or all-wheel drive. Lower mileage examples in excellent condition will command higher prices.

2006 Toyota Sienna Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Toyota Sienna is generally considered economical to own, especially when compared to newer minivans. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is reasonable for a vehicle of its size. Maintenance costs are generally predictable, with readily available and relatively affordable parts. However, potential repairs related to oil leaks or sliding door issues can increase costs. Overall, its reliability helps keep long-term ownership costs manageable.

2006 Toyota Sienna Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Toyota Sienna is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Toyota Sienna Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2006 Toyota Sienna competed with minivans like the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Caravan. In terms of reliability, the Sienna and Odyssey were generally considered more dependable than the Chrysler products. The Sienna offered a comfortable ride and a powerful V6 engine, comparable to the Odyssey.

Features-wise, the Sienna had similar options to its rivals, including available DVD entertainment systems and power sliding doors. However, Chrysler often offered more innovative seating configurations.

Price-wise, the Sienna was generally competitive. Used prices today reflect their age, but the Sienna often holds its value slightly better than the Chrysler minivans due to its reputation for reliability.

Alternatives to the 2006 Sienna include the Honda Odyssey, which offers similar reliability and features. The Kia Sedona is another option to consider, often available at a lower price point, but may not be as reliable. If reliability is a top priority, the Sienna or Odyssey are generally better choices than the Chrysler minivans.

Ranks #153 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Toyota Sienna a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2006 Toyota Sienna is ideal for families seeking a reliable and spacious minivan on a budget. It's a good option for those who prioritize dependability over the latest technology. It's worth buying if you find a well-maintained example with reasonable mileage and a clean history. Consider higher trims like the LE or XLE for added features like power sliding doors and rear climate control. Be sure to thoroughly inspect for common issues like oil leaks and sliding door problems before purchasing. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended.

2006 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD van 3.3 litre V6 long w

The 3.3 liter V6 is under powered especially if you carry six passengers. Had to replace a catalytic converter at 132,000 miles code po420 bank 2. a disappointment. The engine is basically a Camry engine. Toyota should of put a larger displacement engine in this van.

First Sienna with AWD (3 others FWD)

This is my fourth Sienna ( I have 2006 limited AWD and 2008 LE FWD) Two dislikes: RFT wears fast and expensive to replace ($199) and I am switching to 16 inch rim ( 225 65 16 ) Regular tires same height as the 17 rims. (AWD) The Automatic sliding doors breakage all 4 Siennas ( in CT have them repair at an auto body repair shop. Much cheaper ($750 vs $2200). (All).

I own two of them.

Long wheelbase gives it a comfortable ride. It is quiet and great for long trips. I used to own Caravans but the Sienna is quieter and more fun to drive. The cost to own is great because of trade in value and high mile reliability. We drove to California and Arizona from Maine six times and no issues. They both have over 100,000 miles on them.

Awesome van in Minnesota, all wheel drive rocks!

Very reliable for the age and price point, thank you Toyota. This van is a beast in snow, 15 inches in a blizzard, no problem. Long wheelbase, handles cornering and ice great as well. Reliable, excellent comfort, ~20 mpg, great space

As a tall person, I appreciate having the space I need for my legs to be comfortable. I have had very few issues over the ~130k miles. I have every reason to believe with regular maintenance, it will go another 130k miles. Pretty good space to assist in moving, vacation baggage, home and gardening projects.

Best vehicle we have ever had!

We purchased this van new. Only maintenance done is usual stuff, like tires, oil change, brakes, ac motor fan, filters, etc. This van has 185 thousand and still runs like the day we bought it.
