Rating: 4.39

Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan is a minivan, a staple in family transportation for decades. This generation, produced from 2008-2020, offered practical solutions for hauling kids and cargo. Key trims included the SE, SXT, and R/T. Known for its Stow 'n Go seating, which allows the second and third rows to fold completely into the floor, creating a flat loading space. New pricing ranged roughly from $22,000 to $30,000, while used prices vary widely depending on condition and mileage. Its affordability and family-friendly features made it popular.
The Good

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan offers practicality with its Stow 'n Go seating, appealing to families needing cargo flexibility. Its powerful V6 engine provides adequate performance. While not luxurious, it's comfortable for long trips. Its affordability makes it a great value, satisfying budget-conscious buyers. Emotionally, it offers freedom for family adventures.

The Bad

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan's weaknesses include its somewhat dated interior design and materials. Reliability can be a concern, with potential issues in the electrical and suspension systems. Fuel economy is not class-leading. Be aware of potential sliding door problems and ensure regular maintenance has been performed.

What Problems Does the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan Have?

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan has been known to have several frequently reported problems. Electrical issues are common, including problems with the power sliding doors, which can fail or become erratic. Suspension problems, particularly with the rear shocks, are also reported. Some owners have experienced issues with the engine stalling or misfiring.

Recalls have been issued for various issues including airbag deployment problems, fuel leaks and unintended acceleration. These recalls should be checked and addressed if outstanding.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the transmission, which can experience premature wear. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) is also a known source of problems, causing various electrical malfunctions. Rust can be an issue in areas with road salt, especially on the undercarriage.

It is critical to review the vehicle's history report and conduct a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic before purchase. Specific issues may be more prevalent in certain production runs within the 2014 model year, so researching specific VINs can be helpful.

How long will the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan last?

With regular maintenance, a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan can potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 10-15 years of service, but this highly depends on maintenance habits. Neglecting regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and timely repairs can significantly shorten its lifespan. Common long-term weaknesses include increased wear on suspension components, potential transmission issues, and electrical problems as previously mentioned. Rust can also become a factor, especially in colder climates. Proactive maintenance is essential for long-term durability.
Positive Owner Reviews
MaryP
It had everything we wanted. Stow N Go seats, dual air controls, no roof rack. And low miles. Previous owners used it sparingly, maybe as a second car. It runs well.
Anthony
Perfect for the needs for an 89 year old man who uses it to go grocery shopping , Doctors appointments and taking items to the recycling station.
Rebecca
There is so much to love with this minivan. I love that the 2nd row of seats fold down as well as the 3rd row, so lot of cargo space! I'm still learning some of the new features. The vehicle has lots of power when you need it and handles nicely. Very smooth ride. Comfortable seats.
Negative Owner Reviews

I used to like it until I have to put a new transmission in...not goodexpensive To repair....cant afford that kind of repair on a vehicle owned for two and a half years
Wish chevy had a mini
Great acceleration, good stock stereo, GPS was out dated as it was rolling off lot now they want anther $100.+ to update..Steering really SUCKS!!!! Transmission needs fixed but until it breaks dealer says can't help, it shutters and clunks. Will be the last dodge van I will ever buy
Frotaine
The reliability on this car is zero. If you look up some of the complaints they all deal with Transmission, Brakes, or electrical issues. Cheap car, but the accessories are cheap also and is very expensive to repair. The warranty is not that great with lots of loopholes.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan offers a range of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and multiple airbags. Higher trims offer features such as a rearview camera and rear parking sensors.

Entertainment options include a CD player with MP3 compatibility, and available options like a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with screens and wireless headphones were popular. Navigation was also an available option.

Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern vehicles, with no advanced features like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking available.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be reviewed for this specific model year. Ratings may vary, but the Grand Caravan generally performed adequately in crash tests. The availability of side-curtain airbags is a notable safety feature. The optional Safety Sphere package included blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection. Overall, while not cutting-edge, the 2014 Grand Caravan provides a decent level of tech and safety for its class and era.

2014 Dodge Grand Caravan Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan ranged from approximately $22,000 to $30,000 depending on the trim level and options. As a used vehicle, prices vary significantly based on condition, mileage, and location. Expect to find them ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 or potentially lower for higher mileage or less well-maintained examples. Depreciation is significant for minivans, but the Grand Caravan's affordability when new helps it retain some value. Factors affecting resale value include its maintenance history, accident record, and overall condition. Lower mileage examples command a premium.

2014 Dodge Grand Caravan Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan is generally considered moderately economical to own. Insurance costs are typically average for a minivan. Fuel costs can be higher than some competitors due to its fuel economy. Maintenance costs are moderate, but repairs can be expensive, especially for electrical or transmission issues. How Does the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan competes with the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler Town & Country. In terms of price, the Grand Caravan is often more affordable than the Sienna and Odyssey. Performance is comparable, with a strong V6 engine. However, the Sienna and Odyssey generally offer better reliability ratings.

Feature-wise, the Grand Caravan's Stow 'n Go seating is a standout advantage. The Sienna and Odyssey boast more refined interiors and potentially more advanced features, depending on the trim level. JUNK.

I bought my caravan thinking it was a great vehicle. Wrong! 3 transmissions in 3 years! Hub bearings, calipers, lifter rocker arms, rear wiper stopped working, bad rattling under the dash. This piece of crap is the worst vehicle I've EVER owned. In 3 yrs I've put $9500.00 in it just to keep it running. JUNK!

Poor Quality transmission

I bought this vehicle not knowing that there is a serious transmission problem that comes with these vehicles. A flaw in the faulty mechanics of the 2014 Dodge Grand-caravan along with other Dodge Grand-Caravan models and they are still selling them to people knowing that they have this problem.

Great camping van!

I purchaes this van because the seats came out in the rear. I used it to drive across the US and camp out every now and then. I put plastic cantainers in the whoes where the rear seats were so the back of the van was flat ready for a full size mattress and camping gear . I put 20K miles on it with no issues. After the trip I put the rear seats back in. Very comfortable tide.

A great people and animal mover

We bought this mini van when an older yellow lab canine developed some mobility problems. With the stow and go seating, he could essentially walk right into the rear of the van without any difficult jumping. The van is the R/T and among the bells and whistles, the power heated leather seats and adjustable pedals were great. For those of less stature, the adjustments are infinite and anyone can achieve a comfortable seating position. Bought the van when a year old and put about 135,000 miles on it in the past 5 years. It has been very dependable and inexpensive to maintain and insure.
