The 2014 Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV, part of the first generation Compass (2007-2017). Key trims include the Sport, Latitude, and Limited. Known for its Jeep styling at an accessible price point, it offered a taste of Jeep capability. The original MSRP ranged from around $18,000 to $25,000. Its popularity stems from its affordability and Jeep branding appeal.
The Good

The 2014 Jeep Compass offers an appealing design for Jeep enthusiasts and a relatively low entry price for practical buyers. Its available four-wheel drive provides a sense of security and adventure. However, performance and fuel efficiency are not its strongest suits, impacting its overall value compared to competitors.

The Bad

The 2014 Jeep Compass has known weaknesses including subpar acceleration, especially with the base engine, and a somewhat unrefined continuously variable transmission (CVT). Reliability can be a concern, with reports of transmission issues and electrical problems. The interior also feels dated compared to newer rivals. Watch for excessive rust underneath.

What Problems Does the 2014 Jeep Compass Have?

The 2014 Jeep Compass has several frequently reported problems and reliability concerns. The most significant relate to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is known for premature failure. Symptoms include hesitation, slipping, and complete transmission failure. Owners have reported expensive repairs or replacements.

Electrical issues are also common, ranging from malfunctioning sensors to problems with the radio and other electronic components. Some owners have also experienced issues with the engine stalling or running rough. Suspension components, particularly the front struts and ball joints, are prone to wear and may require replacement sooner than expected.

Recalls for the 2014 Compass have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks and problems with the airbags. It is crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability is a general concern, as the Compass tends to require more frequent repairs compared to some of its competitors. Pre-purchase inspections are highly recommended to identify any potential problems before they become costly repairs.

How long will the 2014 Jeep Compass last?

With regular maintenance, a 2014 Jeep Compass can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles. However, consistent upkeep is crucial due to known reliability issues. Expect to address transmission problems, electrical glitches, and suspension wear during its lifespan. Oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor issues promptly are critical for maximizing longevity. Weaknesses often manifest in the form of increased repair frequency as the vehicle ages, particularly after the 100,000-mile mark.

THE REASON I WOULDNT RECCOMMED THIS CAR IS THAT THE HOOD IS VERY HEAVY TO LIFT, THE BACK IS VERY HEAVY TO PULL DOWN AFTER ITS OPENED, GETS ABOUT 200 MILES ON A TANK OF GAS! THATS MY MAJOR ISSUE EXPECIALLY WITH GAS BEING SO HIGH. ALSO NOT MUCH ROOM FOR PASSENGERS IN THE BACK AS FAR AS LEG ROOM

Bought my 2014 Compass online through Carvana and I couldn't be happier. It's everything that I wanted. Drives and handles great and is really comfortable. Its just the right size for me and I'm looking forward to trying out the heated seats this winter.

Phenomenal experience on my 2014 Compass. The problem is the radio has not held up. There is a short/ electrical problem. This has been a problem for 2-3 years. The doors wore out the electrical wires inside the car door out the speakers work.

I love my Jeep. Great on gas----just oil changes and brakes. I have 79,000 on this car and It runs like new

great car, someone forgot to put the engine in , Car is fine as far as looks, ride, comfort, it's just whomever thought this Jeep could go on a 4 cyl engine was crazy, no power, terrible acceleration, you really gotta put your foot hard on the gas , they should've at least put a turbo on the 4 cyl
Mrs.Champ
for a jeep - it drives like a car - the gas mileage is worst - please don't drive over 60 MPH or you will have to fill up ever 2 hrs - I owned a Jeep Liberty before and loved that vehicle . I went back to Nissan

2014 Jeep Compass Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Jeep Compass had an MSRP ranging from approximately $18,000 to $25,000, depending on the trim and options. As of today's used market, prices typically range from $6,000 to $12,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and location. The Compass has experienced significant depreciation due to its reliability record and aging design. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and whether it has 4WD. Models with lower mileage and documented maintenance records command higher prices.

2014 Jeep Compass Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Jeep Compass can be relatively costly to own. Insurance rates are average for the vehicle class. Fuel economy is mediocre. Maintenance and repair costs are higher than average due to potential CVT issues, electrical problems, and suspension wear. Long-term, these factors contribute to a higher total cost of ownership compared to more reliable competitors. Budget for potential repairs and consider an extended warranty if possible.

2014 Jeep Compass Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Jeep Compass is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Jeep Compass Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2014 Jeep Compass competes in the compact SUV class against rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-5. In terms of performance, the Compass lags behind, especially in acceleration and handling. Feature-wise, it offers fewer advanced tech and safety options compared to competitors.

Reliability is a significant weakness of the Compass, as the CR-V and RAV4 are known for their dependability. While the Compass may have a lower initial price, the long-term cost of ownership can be higher due to potential repairs. The Mazda CX-5 offers a more engaging driving experience and a nicer interior.

Alternatives like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are better choices due to their superior reliability, performance, and features. If budget is a primary concern, a slightly older model of these alternatives may offer a better overall value. The Subaru Forester is another good choice with standard all-wheel drive.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Jeep Compass a Good Vehicle?

The 2014 Jeep Compass is best suited for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize Jeep styling and are willing to accept compromises in performance and reliability. It might be worth buying as a used vehicle *only* if it is significantly cheaper than alternatives and has a verifiable maintenance history. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Opting for a well-maintained Limited trim with the 2.4-liter engine and four-wheel drive could provide a slightly better experience. However, overall, consider more reliable options in the compact SUV segment before committing to the Compass.

It's definitely one of the cars ever.

The 2014 Compass fulfills its basic duty as A Car. It gets you from point A to B without putting up much trouble, at least, in my experience. Sure, the interior may be cramped, especially if you're tall, but the seats are comfortable. The performance is sluggish, the handling is not much to write home about, and the ride will make bumps feel 10x worse than they already are. But, it's still A Car. Gas mileage also fluctuates. Fuel economy, at best, is 28 mpg (on a full 13-gallon tank) and, at worst, 25 mpg, from my readings. Granted, while mine only has close to 56,000 miles on it, it will last, with no rust or paint problems whatsoever, compared to my mom's Silverado from the same year. Overall, it's one of the Jeeps ever.

394k and still going

I may be lucky but my 2014 jeep Compass has 394k on it and still going. She is starting to get a ticking noise in the engine so she won't be long for the world. Overall we have had to replace some spark plugs, a belt, and the throttle body so very impressed. The storage is tight and the fuel mileage isn't great. I notice it gets pushed around a lot on the highway when it's windy. Again though, overall for what I paid for it, I am very happy with how long it has lasted me!

Avoid Jeep Products

When I first bought this vehicle, I thought I was getting a great deal because it was so much less expensive than the Toyota RAV4 or other comparably sized vehicles. The problem is that it's just plain cheaply made. My previous Jeep was a 2001 Cherokee Sport which was very reliable and solid. I traded it in for the 2014 compass when it was a little over 12 years old. The Compass is just cheap. Even with the high-end package I bought. I did not get my money's worth. The engine and powertrain are lackluster. The internal trim is poor. The plastic molding on the sides of the front seats breaks off easily. The interior noise is excessive. Suspension components on my vehicle have been replaced several times under warranty. If you plan to keep this vehicle past 100,000 miles, you will have problems. I usually like to try to squeeze 10 years of service out of a car. That won't happen with a modern Jeep unless you plan to put alot of work into it. My suggestion, avoid Jeep. Go with a similar Toyota or Ford product.
