The Good
The 2017 Jeep Compass offers a stylish design, appealing to emotional buyers. Its available 4x4 system provides true off-road capability. Practically, it delivers decent fuel efficiency for its class and a comfortable ride. The Compass offers value for those needing a capable and versatile compact SUV with Jeep's iconic styling. Reliability can be a concern; however, many find the blend of features compelling.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2017 Jeep Compass include a somewhat underpowered engine, especially when fully loaded. The automatic transmission can feel sluggish. Reliability issues, particularly with the electronics and transmission, have been reported. Watch out for potential transmission problems and electrical glitches during a test drive and inspection. The interior materials, while improved, are not class-leading.

What Problems Does the 2017 Jeep Compass Have?
Recalls have been issued for various issues, including problems with the engine stalling, fuel delivery, and airbag systems. These recalls highlight potential safety concerns. Long-term reliability can be a concern, with some owners reporting issues with the engine, suspension, and climate control systems as the vehicle ages.
Specifically, the 2017 model year had several recalls related to engine stalling and fuel leaks, leading to increased safety risks. Before purchasing a used 2017 Compass, it's crucial to check its vehicle history report and ensure that all applicable recalls have been addressed. Regular maintenance and careful driving habits can help mitigate some of these issues, but potential buyers should be aware of these known problems.

Driver-assistance features include available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. A rearview camera is standard.
Safety features include multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control. Optional features include park assist and automatic high beams.

How Does the 2017 Jeep Compass Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Reliability is where the Compass lags behind the CR-V, RAV4, and CX-5. The Subaru Crosstrek offers similar off-road capability and better reliability. Price-wise, the Compass is generally competitive.
Alternatives to consider include:
* **Honda CR-V:** More reliable and better performance.
* **Toyota RAV4:** Highly reliable and spacious.
* **Mazda CX-5:** More refined interior and engaging driving experience.
* **Subaru Crosstrek:** Better off-road capability and reliability for similar money.
If reliability is a primary concern, the alternatives are generally better choices. However, if Jeep styling and moderate off-road ability are priorities, the Compass may still be appealing.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Jeep Compass a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Not very much power, consistent over heating problems, onNot very much power, consistent over heating problems, on my third engine with only 106,000 miles. I would not recommend this car to my worst enemy. I am stuck with a lemon that this year alone has cost me more headaches than any car I have ever owned, financial strain, and the car is still not paid off. I consitinly maintain the car, and it still leaves me stranded.

Worst vehicle everOwned three years i drive back roads 25-45 mph has 54k miles. This year I replaced: Battery Tires Throttle body Ball joint Rear bearing and sensors Tie rod Something else in the rear Today it sounds like the entire frame is crunching when I take off. Sound is front middle and rear. Not so sure but I cannot wait to get this jeep off my property. Enough!!! Newest and worst vehicle I ever owned

Still like it after 6 yearsNow in my 6th year with my 2017 and still like it. My complaints are simple. Needs larger fuel tank, better gas mileage considering its size and engine, would prefer manual transmission, and get rid of the xxxx engine shut off function. Love the size, comfortable, still seems solid. My only repair was replacement of the satnav unit that crapped out.

Great vehicle but room to improveBought the New 2017 Limited Compass right out of the gate in 2017. Exterior styling is amazing (many compliments), love the grille, black roof is sharp. Interior is great with the exception of no place to put sunglasses/phone. Electronics have been a bit glitchy - remote start rarely works, screen freezes often. Wish the shifting was more aggressive. Put your foot on the gas and it seems bogged down in a gear that's too high, very unresponsive acceleration. I always override the auto-feature that turns the car off at idle - a few incidents that I felt were unsafe. It drives really well in snow but I once bent the underbody shield on city streets after a snowfall. It's a pretty, but delicate Jeep. I love this vehicle but I hope some improvements came with the next model years before I buy another 🙂

2017 Jeep Compass TrailhawkHad great experience working w/ HUSKER Auto, Lincoln NE. Jeep was priced reasonably, negotiated down some. They worked w/ me on new battery and new screen. So far was very positive experience.

2017 keep compass latitudeMy 2017 keep compass latitude has back up mirror defect. Someday it works and someday it doesn't. I almost got into other cars so many times as the back up mirror gets too slow or black out completely. So I am extra careful every time I drive. And also emergency break system doesn't work . I never use when I drive since the day I got struck in the middle of traffic. But overall I still love my Jeep for its show and comfortability.

Not 5 years old problems on June 14, 2021
ProblemsI purchased the compass brand new. It wasn't 3 years old and my service airbag light kept coming on. It went to the dealer numerous times finally fixed it. Now I'm replacing the right axel and the exterior battery. I'm still paying a car note. So no I do not recommend this vehicle. I only have 62,000 miles on my truck.
