The 2019 Jeep Compass is a compact SUV, blending Jeep's off-road heritage with everyday practicality. Introduced as a successor to both the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Liberty, it boasts a modern design and improved fuel economy. Key trims include Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. The pricing range typically falls between $22,000 and $30,000 when new. Its standout feature is its genuine off-road capability in the Trailhawk trim, combined with a comfortable ride for daily commuting, making it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2019 Jeep Compass offers a stylish design and decent fuel efficiency. Practical buyers will appreciate its value and comfortable ride. Emotionally, it appeals with Jeep's iconic brand and the Trailhawk's off-road prowess. While not a performance leader, it delivers adequate power for daily driving, balancing practicality with adventurous appeal.

The Bad

Weaknesses of the 2019 Jeep Compass include its somewhat underpowered engine and potentially sluggish acceleration. Some owners report issues with the transmission and electronic systems. Be mindful of potential reliability concerns and ensure thorough inspection before purchasing, paying close attention to transmission performance and electronic features.

What Problems Does the 2019 Jeep Compass Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Jeep Compass often revolve around the 9-speed automatic transmission, which some owners describe as hesitant or rough shifting. Electronic issues, including problems with the infotainment system and other electrical components, are also commonly reported. Some consumers have noted concerns about premature wear of brake components. While not unique to the 2019 model year, these issues have been observed across several years of the Compass production run.
Recalls for the 2019 Jeep Compass have included concerns related to powertrain, engine cooling and electrical system components. Always check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information. Long-term reliability concerns often stem from the aforementioned transmission and electrical glitches, potentially leading to higher maintenance costs over time. Owners should be diligent with scheduled maintenance and promptly address any unusual symptoms to mitigate potential issues.

How long will the 2019 Jeep Compass last?

With regular maintenance, a 2019 Jeep Compass can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years of service. However, consistent, diligent maintenance is crucial. The vehicle's long-term durability can be affected by the previously mentioned transmission issues, which may require costly repairs. Electronic gremlins, while not necessarily debilitating, can become an ongoing annoyance. Rust, particularly in areas with harsh winters, can also be a factor affecting long-term durability. Addressing potential issues early and adhering to the recommended maintenance schedule will significantly improve its lifespan.

In my many years of car driving and ownership, I have rarely had a better vehicle than my 2019 Jeep Compass Latitude. It has been reliable, comfortable, fun to drive and, for its' size and type, very good on gas. In April, I will have been driving "Lattie"for 5 years. My upkeep has been minimal. She is pretty and still looks new. This vehicle is such a pleasure to drive. Handling and response are excellent. Controls are super easy to manage and absolutely love the heated seat and steering wheel. On a long trip, it is very comfortable (yes, I have ridden in the back seat, too) and fuel economy was just great...fully loaded with air-conditioner on and travelling at highway speeds gave me 30+ mpg. Really can't complain. My Neon didn't do any better. This is a great vehicle. Oh, and I had leased it new, and purchased it when the lease was up..that's how good this car is!
Robert
I really love my new Compass, I enjoy driving it. It handles very nice and for a 4 cylinder engine it moves. The interior is very beautiful and comfortable.

Very cute car and it drives well, I got the 4x4 in dark gray. I was a little disappointed that I got a faulty car but the dealer was able to fix the problem. I got the car on a Friday evening, by Sunday the car was having issues! The engine turned off on me and all the interior lights were flashing, I tried turning the whole car off but it wasn't turning off. I waited and was bale to turn it off and back on, the engine light came on after that and the car did that 3 times. I took it back to the dealer Monday morning because the service department was close Sunday. I did not get to experience the joy of driving my new car, that was terrible! When I got my car back a week later my "brand new car" was all dirty and dusty on the outside and when I drove off the tire pressure and windshield fluid lights came on! It was so disappointing! I am still bothered by it. I know that the car issue was not the dealers problem but I feel like they should of been more understanding and should of contacted me the same week I took my car in. I contacted Jeep and the manager emailed me and said they would talk to the dealer and make sure that the car gets fixed but that was pretty much all they did. I am very disappointed with this car now. I would never buy a Jeep again.

Steering skips. Feels like your skidding or the wind has blown your car. Scary. I rented this vehicle from Hertz and it only had 3000 miles on it. I worried at every turn. The compass would change color from green to yellow to white.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Jeep Compass comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a rearview camera. Higher trims offer an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Available entertainment features include a premium BeatsAudio sound system.
Driver-assistance features include available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. These features improve safety and driver confidence.
Standard safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific safety performance. While ratings can vary slightly depending on the exact configuration, the Compass generally performs well in crash tests. However, checking specific ratings for the 2019 model year is recommended. Optional features like the Advanced Safety Group further enhance the safety tech available.

2019 Jeep Compass Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Jeep Compass ranged from approximately $22,000 to $30,000, depending on the trim and options. As a used vehicle, prices now typically range from $14,000 to $22,000, reflecting depreciation. Depreciation is influenced by mileage, condition, trim level, and geographic location. Models with lower mileage, clean titles, and desirable options like the 8.4-inch touchscreen and driver-assistance features will command higher resale values. The Trailhawk trim tends to hold its value better due to its enhanced off-road capabilities and unique styling. Market demand for SUVs also plays a role in resale value.

2019 Jeep Compass Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Jeep Compass generally falls into the average range for ownership costs in its class. Insurance premiums are typically moderate. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the FWD models. Maintenance costs can be average, but potential transmission or electronic repairs could increase expenses. Repair costs may be slightly higher than some competitors due to the Jeep's specific components and potential for off-road wear and tear. Overall, it's neither exceptionally economical nor overly costly to own, but budgeting for potential repairs is prudent.

Insurance for a 2019 Jeep Compass is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Jeep Compass Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Jeep Compass competes with rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Subaru Crosstrek. In terms of performance, the Compass lags behind the CR-V and CX-5, which offer more powerful engine options. Feature-wise, it's competitive, particularly in higher trims with its infotainment system. However, reliability is where the Compass falls short compared to the CR-V and RAV4, both known for their long-term dependability. The Crosstrek offers similar off-road capabilities at a slightly lower price point, though with less interior space.
The Mazda CX-5 provides a more engaging driving experience and upscale interior, while the Honda CR-V offers superior practicality and reliability. If reliability is a top priority, the CR-V or RAV4 are better choices. If off-road capability is essential, the Compass Trailhawk remains a strong contender, but otherwise, alternatives offer better overall value and performance.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Jeep Compass a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Jeep Compass is ideal for buyers who appreciate Jeep's styling and want a compact SUV with available off-road capabilities, particularly in the Trailhawk trim. It's worth buying if you prioritize aesthetics and some off-road prowess over outright performance or unwavering reliability. A used 2019 Compass can be a decent value if thoroughly inspected and purchased with a comprehensive warranty, focusing on trims with desirable features like Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Carefully weigh its strengths and weaknesses against its competitors, and consider alternatives if reliability is paramount.

Untrustworthy dealership in Mobile Alabama

Auxiliary battery dies often. Which then causes the main battery to die often. Overall glitchy electronics. And the dealership service department are of no help. They only make excuses assuming I'm an idiot.

2019 Compass Trailhawk 😎

I love driving this car! I have a 2019 Jeep Compass trailhawk and it has been great for my daily commuting and for my road trips! It's a big of a gas guzzler though, the gas could be better. The Auto stop doesn't seem to make much a difference gas wise. The only problem I had with this car was a rock in the radiator, which unfortunately is how I purchased it without the dealer noticing! When I took it to the dealer they swore up and down that nothing was wrong with it. I was furious, they kept my car for 2 days just to tell me they couldn't detect anything.I took it to a mom and pop shop and it took them 10 minutes to tell me it was the radiator. Once I got that fixed, the car has been running fine! I love driving it, it's off road capability is pretty impressive! It has a good amount of features as well. I also got it for a pretty low price, which is awesome!

This is where I will do business from now on, and I will be sending all my family and friends. He really took the time to find out what I wanted and needed in a vehicle and found me exactly what I wanted. Thr jeep is everything I wanted and more. I Absolutely love my new car.

2019 Jeep Compass

I truly love driving this vehicle. It handle really well especially on snow/ice covered roads. Which was the primary reason I bought it in the first place. For a small SUV, it's very roomy and has lots of storage space.

Only drove it home from the dealership!

So far, I like the looks and ride of this car. Only time will tell about the reliability and the dependability factors. At this point, all looks and feels good.
