The Jeep Compass, a compact SUV, has been around since 2007, offering a blend of Jeep's off-road pedigree and everyday practicality. The 2023 model is part of the second generation. Key trims include Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. Pricing typically ranges from the mid $20,000s to the low $40,000s. Its appealing design and available 4x4 capability, combined with a comfortable interior, make it a popular choice for those seeking a versatile SUV.
The Good

The 2023 Jeep Compass offers a stylish design and comfortable interior, appealing to emotional buyers. Its available 4x4 system provides off-road capability, a significant advantage. For practical buyers, it offers decent fuel efficiency, modern technology, and a competitive price point within the compact SUV segment. The improved engine offers better performance compared to previous years.

The Bad

The 2023 Jeep Compass, while improved, still faces some criticisms. Watch out for potential issues with the infotainment system, which some users find slow or buggy. Some reviewers note that the rear seat space isn't the most generous in its class. While the new engine is an improvement, it's not class-leading in terms of power or refinement.

What Problems Does the 2023 Jeep Compass Have?

While the 2023 Jeep Compass benefits from improvements, it's essential to consider potential issues. Some owners have reported issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, including slow response times, glitches, and connectivity problems. Transmission issues have also been reported in some instances, although less frequently than in older models. Check for any software updates that address these concerns.

Recalls can occur, so it's crucial to check the NHTSA website (nhtsa.gov) for any active recalls related to the 2023 Jeep Compass. This information is readily available and can help address potential safety or performance issues.

Long-term reliability is still being established for the 2023 model, given its relatively recent release. However, previous Compass model years have faced some reliability challenges. Issues with electrical systems, climate control, and engine components have been documented. Staying on top of scheduled maintenance and addressing any issues promptly is critical to ensure the longevity of the vehicle. Monitoring owner forums and reviews can provide valuable insights into long-term reliability concerns specific to the 2023 model year.

How long will the 2023 Jeep Compass last?

With proper maintenance, a 2023 Jeep Compass can potentially last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, translating to roughly 10-13 years of service for the average driver. Consistent oil changes, timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires, etc.), and addressing any mechanical issues promptly are crucial.

Potential long-term weaknesses include the durability of the infotainment system and the long-term reliability of the transmission. Rust can also be a concern in areas with harsh winters and road salt, so regular washing and undercarriage protection are recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 Jeep Compass boasts a modern tech suite. Standard features include the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital gauge cluster. Higher trims offer features like a premium Alpine audio system, navigation, and a panoramic sunroof.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and park assist. These features enhance safety and convenience.

The 2023 Jeep Compass has generally received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), though it's best to check the latest ratings on their respective websites for the most up-to-date information. These ratings assess the vehicle's performance in various crash scenarios, providing valuable safety insights.

2023 Jeep Compass Prices and Market Value

The 2023 Jeep Compass had a starting MSRP in the mid-$20,000s, reaching the low $40,000s for higher trims. Used market prices currently range from the low $20,000s to the high $30,000s, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation is typical for a compact SUV, with the Compass losing value faster than some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, maintenance history, and the presence of desirable features like 4x4 and advanced safety tech. Keeping the vehicle well-maintained and opting for popular trims can help retain value.

2023 Jeep Compass Cost of Ownership

The 2023 Jeep Compass is relatively economical to own. Insurance costs are typically average for its class. Fuel economy is decent, contributing to moderate running costs. Routine maintenance, like oil changes and tire rotations, is generally affordable. However, potential repairs, especially related to the infotainment system or transmission, could increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, the Compass offers a balance between affordability and features, making it a reasonable choice for budget-conscious buyers.

My wife and I bought a 23' Jeep Compass Limited with 15K

My wife and I bought a 23' Jeep Compass Limited with 15K miles. We were looking for something small but also a vehicle that could offer 4x4. My initial impression of it at the dealership was that it has an awesome exterior paint color (granite crystal) and black wheels to compliment it. The car drives great on the highway and city. It's a very comfortable ride and the car can turn on a dime! I am currently averaging 30 mpg while commuting to work each day. I have noticed the car will sometimes have difficulty up shifting. As long as I apply more gas it eventually gets over it. Not a big deal for me as my last vehicle would do the same thing. The rear view camera is nice on the Compass, however it is completely useless at night. Overall we are very happy with our purchase.

My jeep

We like the Jeep because I have a good experience with those cars, the first one was a Cherokee, the Compass it is very economical on gas especially on the highway, the only thing is that it doesn't have to open the trunk from inside the car not even with the key, I like it.

I am enjoying my Jeep compass trailhawk.

I bought a trailhawk, thought it would be the best for resale value. The new engine is terrific besides better gas mileage better air quality it feels just as fast as the six-cylinder I used to have in the Cherokee. The new interior feels like it was made for me. I fit in it perfectly. Easy to scoot around in easy to park!

Mostly Good With Some Drawbacks

I've owned my 2023 Jeep Compass High Altitude for 3 months and have put 2,000 miles on it, and overall it's a really good vehicle but would be better with a few improvements. The interior layout of the car is excellent -- everything is easy to reach, navigate, and adjust. The center screen is bright, crisp, and snappy and was one of the major draws for me over the prior models. The interior in general feels much roomier than other small SUVs in this class. The ride is smooth and comfortable on long trips, though I do find the premium leather seats to be stiffer than the "standard" leather seats in the lower trim models, which is surprising. The gas mileage is quite good and the brakes are fantastic. I also like the exterior design because it looks even more like a baby Grand Cherokee, and the two-tone paint looks sharp if you're into that. Also, the moonroof is huge and really opens up the interior of the car. I haven't owned the car long enough to comment on reliability, but so far so good in that department. Now for the things that need improvement. First, the engine sounds like a literal go-kart and is quite loud inside the vehicle. Yes, the engine is small but I feel like they could have done something to alter the sound or at least dampen the cabin noise better. Second, there are rattles coming from various places in the car, most notably from the headliner around the moonroof. Considering I paid 42k for the top trim, this is disappointing and quite annoying. Makes the car feel a little cheap and/or hastily assembled. Also cheap feeling are the buttons under the center screen and the interior/exterior door handles. I came from a 2018 Audi Q3 and the fit and finish just doesn't compare in that regard. Overall it's a minor thing but worth mentioning. The last thing (and maybe my biggest gripe) that I'm really bummed the Compass doesn't have is an adjustable tailgate. I have a small garage with low headroom and I have to unload anything from the back of the car before I pull into the garage because the tailgate would most certainly bang into the overhead garage door when fully opened. I believe the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee both had the option to set the max tailgate height and I don't see why they couldn't include that feature in the new Compass. Overall, it's a good car with more positives than negatives, but with a few improvements it could be the perfect small SUV.

Our New Compass

My wife wanted a new suv. She wanted one that was not real big, and not real small. And the Compass was just the right size for her when we went to look at it so she bought it. In early September we took it to Ocean City, Maryland and it handled the luggage of four people, it rode nice, and got good gas mileage. We are pleased.

Not the Compass of the past

I was looking for a new daily commuter that I would pass down to the kid in a few years and ended up going with the Compass after test driving just about everything in the subcompact SUV class. I almost dismissed it due to some of the mediocre reviews I had read but I honestly believe these reviews are spill-over from previous generations. Im not saying the Compass is the best thing on the market but it is way better than half the SUV's that are consistently ranked higher than it. The Compass wins in looks compared to almost every other subcompact and now that it has the new 2.0T and 8speed it performs just as well. There were other subcompacts that I liked better in certain areas but the Compass was the best well-rounded pick. The Mazda CX-5 2.5Turbo was the better performance vehicle but the interior was outdated and the infotainment system was not good. The Dodge Hornet GT plus looked amazing and drove great but there was minimal technology and I couldn't find one with leather. The Rav4 TRD Off-Road had a mean rugged look but everything else about it was lackluster. The Honda CR-V checked a lot of boxes for me (ie. Safety, space, MPG's, etc.) but the Compass felt better. Pros: • Exterior design looks great, it literally is a small Grand Cherokee. • Interior design and materials are top-notch. • New engine and transmission make it a completely new Compass. • Tons of tech and safety features. Cons: • $$$$ My Compass (High Altitude w/ Driver Assistance and Elite packages) was $44K… that's Grand Cherokee / Wrangler prices! • I didn't notice it until I read a review but there is a significant amount of engine noise in the cabin although the Alpines take care of that. • Engine is better but wish they could've squeezed 25-50 more horsepower out of it. • It is on the smaller side of it's class.
