The elegant design appeals emotionally, while practical buyers appreciate the advanced safety features and surprisingly good fuel efficiency for its class. While not the pinnacle of reliability, it's generally dependable with proper maintenance.
The Bad

What Problems Does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Have?
Some owners have reported problems with the driver-assistance systems, such as lane-keeping assist or adaptive cruise control, exhibiting erratic behavior. It's crucial to check these systems during a test drive. Regarding recalls, it's best to consult the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date information specific to the 2019 model year. Common recall items across Mercedes-Benz models can sometimes relate to fuel pumps, airbags, or software issues.
Long-term reliability concerns often center around the cost of maintaining such a technologically advanced vehicle. Parts and labor can be significantly more expensive than for more mainstream cars. Regular maintenance, following the manufacturer's recommended schedule, is essential to mitigate potential issues and prolong the lifespan of the vehicle. Neglecting maintenance can lead to accelerated wear and tear and higher repair bills down the road.
How long will the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are abundant, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system. Optional features further enhance safety and convenience, such as active lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and cross-traffic alert.
Safety is a priority, and the S-Class includes features like PRE-SAFE, which prepares the vehicle for a potential collision by tightening seatbelts and closing windows. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific scores; while ratings can vary slightly year to year, the S-Class generally performs well in crash tests, reflecting its robust construction and advanced safety systems. The vehicle also offered options like massaging seats, a head-up display, and a night vision system for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The advanced driver assistance systems contributed significantly to overall safety and ease of driving.

How Does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Compare to Other Sedan?
The BMW 7 Series offers a sportier driving experience compared to the S-Class's focus on comfort and luxury. The Audi A8 boasts advanced technology and a sleek, modern design. While the S-Class excels in overall luxury and brand prestige, the Lexus LS presents a compelling alternative for buyers prioritizing reliability and a more understated elegance.
Depending on individual priorities, alternatives might be considered. If performance is paramount, the AMG variants of the S-Class are hard to beat. For those seeking a more engaging driving experience, the BMW 7 Series could be a better choice. And if reliability is the top concern, the Lexus LS is a strong contender. Ultimately, the "best" choice depends on what the buyer values most in a luxury sedan. Considering a Genesis G90 could also be a good value alternative, offering many of the S-Class features at a lower price point but with a less established luxury brand image.

Worst AI technology car Mercedes has attemptedNot my first S560. I had a very good 2017 S550 and wanted to of course trade for the newer 2019 S560 4matic. From first day, so many technology problems, and two different dealers didnât have a clue how to fix. Mercedes wouldnât back me up, left me hanging with an unreliable car, I traded it 6 mos later. I paid - Roadside refused to cover - sending car to a third, much larger dealership. They had NO problem diagnosing and fixing the car. The original dealer didnât set up the car properly! This is a car that requires very intricate technology support. Itâs not for rural use, which is odd Mercedes would design the car dependent on other nearby Mercedes for functions. This is considered a Tier2 AI (autonomous) feature car. Mercedes isnât ready to manage such a huge area, and certainly should back up drivers who have problems. Unless you buy at a huge dealer. Smaller doesnât have experience and canât recreate nor resolve the issues. I consider technology features no different than door locks, auto sensing wipers, or the Distronic... or any other electric feature. But their mindset doesnât back that up. Itâs a shame to pay $130k and the features that set it apart, are most likely to fail, and Mercedes wonât treat you serious.

Worst car - of ANY ever owned or driven since 1977Iâve owned all Mercedes models since 1999, except Maybach. I was a walking MB sales gal until this 2019 S560. Now, I will never darken a MB dealership again. Catastrophic shifter failure, and numerous technology failures started day I took ownership. 2 Dealers insist I was mad. My prior model, I owned an S550 with no problems, very comfortable with using deep technology and smart phone integration areas. One day the car became like in a Terminator movie, rebelling inexplicably - the most severe was the shifter suddenly wouldnât operate changing the transmission, but instead the COMMAND NAV screen!! It didnât happen once, not even just twice, but THREE separate times in a day. Itâs now going to a THIRD dealer, at my cost, for diagnosis. Suddenly, 2 Mercedes dealers, and Mercedes Corp, are acting out the ââŹĹor nothingââŹÂ part of their slogan. They run diagnostics, and stop. Wonât consider they didnât write a code for a wiring or hardware failure. Mercedes Corp wonât intervene - dealer saying Corp responsibility, abd Corp says itâs the dealer. Neither will involve Germany. I did research and had to ask for a VIN national report...wa-la, found Mercedes did not disclose a pre-title warranty repair of SAME shifter. After, 2 dealers and Mercedes STILL denying. Car technology is another failure. Wonât use existing loaded contact addresses - says to put in address, but it exists. I even tested putting same exact in, and it accepts it! Wonât load but ten - always - of my 30 phone contacts (not known char issue). I live in a rural area, and dealer never disclosed new 2019 must rely on other S class in area for traffic to work. So unless youâre in a major town, this feature is useless. Mercedes is in a pissing contest with Apple, Verizon, and Sirius Traffic also. This delays updates, features no longer work while waiting, and prior S technology features have gone away. Mercedes is not only way in over their heads, and not ready to manage this level of technology, but the corporation has abandoned all customer service. The 2 state dealers seem to use technicians instead of true mechanics. Why would I pay this much for a car? In past models I could easily justify. Mercedes doesnât care - so guess what, I have no problem leaving them in the dust. I highly advise if you buy S class, donât buy after 2017. This is when the new technology decisions have gone south.
