The Good
The 2014 Frontier offered decent performance with its available V6 engine. Its strong reliability record appeals to practical buyers, while its off-road capability (PRO-4X) and truck versatility satisfy emotional needs. It's a value-oriented choice, prioritizing function over luxury, with a rugged design that resonates with truck enthusiasts.
The Bad
The 2014 Frontier's weaknesses include its outdated interior, lower fuel economy compared to some competitors, and a somewhat stiff ride. Watch out for potential timing chain issues on the V6 engine, particularly with neglected maintenance. Rust can also be a concern in colder climates. The rear differential on some models has also been reported to have problems.

What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan Frontier Have?
How long will the 2014 Nissan Frontier last?
Positive Owner Reviews
Negative Owner Reviews
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are minimal, with standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC). There are no advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring available on this model year.
Safety features include standard front and side airbags. Optional features included a rearview camera on some trims. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. While the Frontier performed reasonably well in some tests, it received marginal scores in others, particularly the small overlap front crash test, highlighting potential weaknesses in frontal crash protection. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) ratings also varied by cab configuration, so it's advisable to check specific results based on the cab style being considered. Overall, the 2014 Frontier prioritizes basic safety over advanced technology.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Frontier Compare to Other Truck?
The Toyota Tacoma is a strong alternative if reliability and resale value are top priorities, even if it comes at a slightly higher price. The Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon (especially later model years of that generation) offered more modern interiors and technology, but may not match the Frontier's long-term reliability. Consider the Honda Ridgeline for a more comfortable and refined ride, albeit with less traditional truck capabilities. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual needs and priorities.

Overall good vehical but sucks gas. ALWAYS starts.WE replaced our 2005 Nissan Frontier King cab with a used 2014 Nissan Frontier King cab with 70,000 miles 3 months ago. We would NOT recommend a king cab but the overall value was to good to pass up. The 2014 has dual climate control which our 2005 didn't. We expect everything else to be similar and having now used it for 5,000 miles, that appears to be true. We purchased a used 2005 Nissan Frontier King cab with 95,000 miles and drove it until it had 280,000 miles. Nissan extended (on paper) the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles (due to a radiator leak defect) but didn't cover our failure even though we reported intermitant problems at 97,000 - it failed at 100,100. Nissan refused to warrant it! The computer inside the transmission had failed causing it to shift incorrectly, damaging a gear. It cost about $3,700 to have it repaired by local shop - Nissan wanted about $7,000! There was only 1 part in the entire country and we had to wait over a week to get it. No other real issues other than individual coil packs failing at 180,000 (cylinder 1), 240,000 (cylinder 3) and 275,000 (cylinder 5). The repairs for cylinders 1 & 3 cost about $60 for the part and about 20 minutes of labor - but cylinder 5 requires removing the intake to get to it and that cost about $350. Fun to drive but mileage sucks! It handles great because it is very stiff (rides like a truck) and the v6 has some 'guts". ALWAYS starts, even at -30 (using synthetic oil changed spring and fall). Nissan needs to fix issues with poor headlights (compared to other manufacturers), gas gage reading wrong just after warranty, climate controls not effective, and evaporator (emissions system) failing happened in 3 out of 5 Nissans we owned and 2 had tecalls) since these same problems have occurred in several of our Nissan vehicals - not just the 2005 Frontier. Nissans will typically rust before other brands. We have also owned 2 Nissan Maximas and a Nissan Altima. Overall, Nissan vehicals are a good value for the money.

This is our 2nd Frontier, our 4th Nissan.Perfect for our needs. Practical with some nice bells and whistles. Just what we wanted. We'll use it for family travel and work commute. We'll keep it awhile...and happily.

Best Work TruckThis is one great vehicle and worth every dollar as a work truck with excellent mileage and reliability. Hardly any high-cost maintenance. Can not beat it for the money.

3rd Datsun/NissanNever a problem and 142,000 miles. Hit a deer in 2015, airbags did not go off. Replaced everything with new parts. (Large deer and I wasn’t hurt.) I don’t like the body style. I think it looks clumsy, but Datsun/Nissans have always been good for me.

Trusting Nissan ReputationSo far it’s performance is great—except the AV monitor seems to be going out. It did for two days then came back on. Hopefully it’s a minor issue.

Loving My First PickupI just purchased my Nissan Frontier used through the USAA Buyer Service. I tried the Honda Ridgeline (too sluggish) and the Toyota Tacoma (more truck than I wanted/needed). This truck meets all my needs, from camping trips to pulling trailers. It has a very sporty drive with lots of responsiveness, yet the ride is smooth and comfortable. The dash layout is driver friendly and the seats are comfortable and supportive. I especially like the clarity of the backup camera and it's warning beeps. It came with the cargo extender and tonneau cover; the latter improves the gas mileage. I'm planning to emjoy this vehicle for many years worry free because of the service and tire protection packages I purchased.
