The Good
The 2021 Frontier boasts a powerful and refined 3.8L V6, improving performance and drivability. Its strong reliability record offers peace of mind to practical buyers. The truck's simple, rugged design appeals to those seeking a traditional pickup. While not the most efficient, the engine delivers robust power. It's a solid value proposition for buyers wanting a capable, dependable truck without the premium price.
The Bad
The 2021 Frontier's biggest weakness is its dated interior and overall design, which feels noticeably behind the competition. Fuel economy is not a strong point. While reliable, some owners have reported minor issues with sensors and electronics. The ride quality can be stiff, particularly on rough roads. Watch for rust on older models if purchasing used.

What Problems Does the 2021 Nissan Frontier Have?
Recalls for the 2021 Frontier have been relatively limited. It's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information, as recalls can be issued at any time. Long-term reliability concerns are generally low for the Frontier. However, as with any vehicle, consistent and proper maintenance is key to avoiding issues and maximizing its lifespan. Preventative care such as fluid changes (oil, transmission, coolant) and regular inspections can mitigate potential problems. Prior model years (2005-2020) using the older engine are known to have potential timing chain guide issues at high mileage, but this isn't relevant to the 2021 model.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA provide insights into its safety performance. The IIHS gave the 2021 Frontier Marginal ratings in the small overlap front: driver-side and moderate overlap front tests. The NHTSA gave it four out of five stars for overall safety. These ratings are worth considering, as newer trucks generally perform better in crash tests. The absence of advanced driver-assistance systems like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control (features common in newer trucks) makes the 2021 Frontier lag behind its competitors in this area. The PRO-4X trim adds hill descent control for off-road situations.

How Does the 2021 Nissan Frontier Compare to Other Truck?
Feature-wise, the Frontier lags behind the competition, particularly in advanced driver-assistance systems and infotainment. Price-wise, the Frontier is typically more affordable than the Tacoma and Ranger, making it an attractive value proposition. However, the Colorado/Canyon can sometimes be found at similar or slightly lower prices, offering more features for the money. If reliability is paramount and you don't mind a more dated interior, the Tacoma is a strong alternative. If modern features and technology are a priority, the Colorado/Canyon or Ranger are better choices. If you're on a budget and want a dependable truck with a powerful engine, the 2021 Frontier is a solid option, especially if you prioritize value over cutting-edge features.

Won’t StartI am having issues with starting my 2021 I’ve taken back to the dealership I got it from twice and they still can’t figure it out. Takes 10 minutes to start it has 11k miles on it and I bought it cash out the door with only 10 miles off the lot! I don’t have time for this I am a single mom

For the money this is the truck is awesomeWas looking for a 4/4 midsized truck but didn’t want all the bells & whistles. I was pleasantly surprised , easy to drive , smooth driving city & country roads . The interior is nice and the seats are very comfortable. The touchscreen is very user friendly. I would rate this truck as the best value period. Nissan hit a home run with the midnight edition . Very pleased with quality & price .

The best I ever hadReliable, durable, robust, powerful, Japanese, what else? I really love it... I've had other models, but Nissan always surprises with its technology and the reliability of its products.

1st new vehicle I have ever owned. From the 1st time I sat in this truck at the dealership and then test drove it I knew I was going to buy it. It's sporty and has plenty of power when you step on the gas pedal. I had a Ford F150 and didn't want to sell it but at the time I needed something that gave me better gas mileage. This Nissan Frontier was just what I was looking for in size and functionality.

Excellent! The truck is is perfect for us. We like that it handles well in traffic and is easy to drive. Really enjoying the Bluetooth and especially the USB port. Lots of storage, plenty of cup holders, and two glove boxes! Our dog loves the big back seat and it folds down if we need to.
