The Good
The 2017 Frontier boasts a proven V6 engine offering adequate performance for work and play. Its reputation for reliability appeals to practical buyers seeking long-term value. The simple design and comfortable (though dated) interior resonate with those who appreciate a straightforward, dependable truck. The affordability factor is also a significant advantage.
The Bad
The 2017 Frontier's weaknesses include its outdated design and interior, which lacks modern tech features. Fuel economy is subpar compared to newer rivals. The ride can be stiff, and the interior materials feel cheap. Watch out for potential rust issues, especially on models from northern climates. Some owners have reported issues with the timing chain tensioner.

What Problems Does the 2017 Nissan Frontier Have?

Positive Owner Reviews
Negative Owner Reviews
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited. It doesn't have advanced safety tech like automatic emergency braking or lane departure warning. Safety features include standard anti-lock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. A rearview camera was available on some trims.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be consulted for specific scores. While the Frontier performed adequately in some crash tests, its aging design means it doesn't offer the same level of protection as newer vehicles with more advanced safety features. To reiterate, the Frontier is decidedly behind the times in terms of technology. If you want modern driver aids and entertainment options, this isn't the truck for you.

How Does the 2017 Nissan Frontier Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
Alternatives to the Frontier include:
* **Toyota Tacoma:** More expensive, but holds its value better and offers superior off-road capability.
* **Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon:** More modern features and better fuel economy, but potentially less reliable and can be pricier.
* **Honda Ridgeline:** Offers a smoother ride and more car-like handling, but less traditional truck capability.
If you prioritize affordability and a proven track record, the Frontier is a solid choice. However, if you value modern features, better fuel economy, or superior off-road capability, consider the alternatives.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier a Good Pickup Truck?

Great mid-size truck.Great mid-size truck. We bought it in November 2022. I had to replace the throttle positioning sensor and that is all. 4.0 auto 5 speeds. It woud do a better if 6 speed, but I still get 19-20 mpg if I baby it. The 6 cylinder has good power at over 260hp. I recommend the frontier. My son has a 4 cyl 1997 hardbody now for 12+ years. Both trucks are great.

Great Ergonomic DesignA most excellent truck for pulling an aluminum fishing boat. Keep your auto transmission fluid changed. I bought a used 2017 S with a 4 cylinder.

Bought a FrontierFound what I was looking for for what I was willing to pay for it. Love the vehicle. Low mileage. Few bells and whistles. What I was hoping to get.

Best little truck to ownGreat truck..... Rides great and has plenty of room if you don't require a full size. It's average when it comes to fuel miles. I purchased a 4 cyd and haven't test to pull ratio yet.

My 1st truck is a Frontier!I am blown away at the value I get with my new preowned 2017 Nissan Frontier crew cab SV 4x4. I have a back up camera, dual climate control, utility track system, bed liner, tow package, 4.0 v6 with 36,000 miles, and I got it all for under $24k. I passed on a 2016 Tacoma with the same mileage, and less features (no tow package, or all wheel drive) for 27k, so Im glad I picked what was valuable. Toyota has a right to sell for a higher price since theyre on fire right now and are the largest foreign seller in the US and largest manufacturer in the world. But with economic hardship rearing its head as early as 2018, and being compounded by foolish central planning in the wake of a pandemic, only a fool would get into a truck with a $700, or $800 monthly payment. Thanks for giving us so much value, Nissan!

So far good power with V6 and nice lookingNice looking but not real fancy, more affordable than some, good power and acceleration. good room with the crew cab. Overall a good midsize truck that i hope performs with the V6 engine.
