What Problems Does the 2009 Toyota Camry Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2009 Toyota Camry often center around the 2.4L engine. Excessive oil consumption is a common complaint, potentially leading to engine damage if not monitored. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, including harsh shifting or slipping, especially at higher mileages.

Recalls for the 2009 Camry mainly revolved around potential issues with the accelerator pedal, part of the broader Toyota recalls of that era. These recalls aimed to address concerns about unintended acceleration. It's crucial to verify that any used 2009 Camry has had all applicable recall work completed.

Long-term reliability concerns, aside from the oil consumption, include potential issues with the air conditioning system and some electrical components. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters. Overall, while the Camry is generally reliable, regular maintenance and careful inspection are essential, particularly given its age.

How long will the 2009 Toyota Camry last?

With proper maintenance, a 2009 Toyota Camry can easily exceed 200,000 miles and provide 15+ years of service. Regular oil changes (especially addressing the potential for oil consumption in the 2.4L engine), timely transmission servicing, and addressing minor repairs promptly are key. Durability is generally strong, but weaknesses include potential for rust in colder climates and wear on suspension components over time. High-mileage examples may require more frequent repairs, but the Camry's inherent reliability makes it a strong contender for long-term ownership.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2009 Toyota Camry's tech was relatively basic by today's standards. Standard features include a CD player with AM/FM radio. Higher trims (like the XLE) offered options such as a JBL premium audio system and a navigation system (which was fairly rudimentary compared to modern systems).

Driver-assistance features were limited. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (VSC) were standard. Optional features included traction control.

Safety features included front, side, and curtain airbags. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good. The 2009 Camry earned "Good" ratings in most categories. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also gave it high scores for frontal and side-impact protection. Keep in mind that safety standards have evolved significantly since 2009.

Overall, the 2009 Camry prioritized safety and basic entertainment over advanced tech. Its safety features were competitive for its time.

2009 Toyota Camry Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2009 Toyota Camry ranged from roughly $19,000 to $29,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location.

The Camry holds its value well compared to some competitors due to its reputation for reliability. Lower mileage examples and well-maintained vehicles command higher prices. Factors affecting resale value include the trim level (XLE generally fetches more), accident history, and service records. Depreciation has been significant due to age, but the Camry's inherent desirability keeps its used values relatively stable.

2009 Toyota Camry Cost of Ownership

The 2009 Toyota Camry is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel costs are reasonable, particularly with the 4-cylinder engine. Maintenance is generally affordable, with readily available parts. Repair costs can be higher if major issues arise (like transmission problems), but overall, the Camry is known for its reliability, contributing to lower long-term ownership expenses. Addressing potential oil consumption proactively can help avoid costly engine repairs. Its reputation contributes to its affordability.

2009 Toyota Camry Insurance

Insurance for a 2009 Toyota Camry is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2009 Toyota Camry Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2009 Toyota Camry's key rivals include the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Mazda 6. In terms of reliability, the Camry and Accord are generally considered top choices. The Altima offers a sportier driving experience, while the Mazda 6 provides more engaging handling.

In terms of features, the Camry is generally well-equipped for its class, though the Altima might offer slightly more advanced tech for the time. Performance-wise, the Camry's V6 engine is competitive, but the 4-cylinder can feel underpowered compared to some rivals.

Price-wise, the Camry is usually in line with its competitors. If a sportier driving experience is desired, the Mazda 6 or Nissan Altima are worth considering. If reliability is the top priority, the Honda Accord is a very similar and highly recommended alternative. I've had my car for a while, and the only real issue is

I've had my car for a while, and the only real issue is that it consumes or leaks engine oil slowly. I change the oil every 3,000 miles, and with that routine, it's been fine. The car now has 140,000 miles and still runs great—thanks to God. I once switched to synthetic oil and drove 5,000 miles between changes, but all the oil was gone by then. Since sticking to 3,000-mile oil changes, I haven't even needed to check the oil level regularly. Aside from this minor issue, the car is reliable and has served me well.

Good car bad A/C

The only thing I did not like it is the quality of the A/C. To replace the evaporator, you have to remove the dash complety, and couple of years later the compressor, failed

My 2009 Toyota Camry caught fire & totally burned.

I bought a used 2009 Toyota Camry back in June of 2022. Everything seemed alright and it drove me from California to Arkansas where I moved. I have the vehicle lubed a number of times, wheels rotated, and engine checked, but when I drove it out to have dinner, a three mile drive, it literally burned up into a huge fire and is a total loss now. I've only had the car for 6 or seven months and thought I'd own this nice little car for yers to come. But, that is just not so. I wish I could provide you with a picture because this beauty just blew up like in the movies. I'm very disappointed in Toyota's now.

My 2009 Camry has 220K miles, and while I understand that is a lot. The issues it has had have been expensive and ridiculous. Despite the issues it has had, It runs good and gets me everywhere I need to go, in a comfortable way.

Great car

Legroom, large trunk space, good gas mileage , a really smooth riding car to drive. Toyota’s have a good reputation for running a lot of miles so I’m hoping that adds to the value

Buyer Beware

The 2009 Camry had an oil consumption manufacturing problem which Toyota did not correct. I have been told by an owner that this problem also exists for 2010 models. I would have recommended this vehicle, if it had not been for this problem.

A very reliable car.

Few repairs and economic car to operate. A mid size car that rides well and comfortable transports 5 adults. Great gas mileage and a good long distance travel car.
