The Toyota Camry, a staple in the mid-size sedan segment, continues its legacy with the 2022 model. Known for its reliability and practicality, the Camry has been a popular choice for decades. The 2022 Camry is a four-door sedan. Key trims include the LE, SE, XLE, XSE, and TRD. Pricing typically ranges from the mid $20,000s to the low $30,000s. Its reputation for dependability and resale value makes it stand out.
The Good

The 2022 Toyota Camry boasts impressive reliability and a comfortable ride, appealing to practical buyers. Its fuel efficiency and strong resale value add to its appeal. For emotional buyers, the Camry offers a sleek design, especially in the SE and XSE trims, and a surprisingly engaging driving experience, particularly with the available V6 engine. Overall, it's a well-rounded package.

The Bad

While generally reliable, the 2022 Toyota Camry's base engine can feel underpowered for some drivers. The interior design, while functional, might be considered bland compared to rivals. Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds. The infotainment system, though updated, is not the most intuitive. Ensure the car you are looking at has the options you want, as features can vary significantly between trims.

Analysis

What Problems Does the 2022 Toyota Camry Have?

The 2022 Toyota Camry generally enjoys high reliability ratings. However, some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including occasional freezing or slow response times. There have also been some complaints regarding the automatic emergency braking system activating unnecessarily. Some reports mention premature wear of brake components, though this is not widespread.

Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any recalls specific to the 2022 model year. As of my last update, common recall issues for recent Camry model years (which *may* affect the 2022 model) have included fuel pump failures (leading to potential stalling) and improperly installed front shock absorber bolts. It is vital to check for any outstanding recalls with your VIN before purchasing any used vehicle.

Long-term reliability is generally a strong point for the Camry, but as with any vehicle, consistent maintenance is crucial. Pay attention to fluid levels, tire condition, and brake wear to maximize the car's lifespan. While the 2022 model is still relatively new, issues that surface in earlier model years (e.g., 2018-2021) *could* potentially appear later on this model as well, so researching these can be beneficial.

How long will the 2022 Toyota Camry last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Toyota Camry can easily last for 200,000 miles or more, potentially providing 10-15 years of service. Toyota's reputation for reliability supports this. Key to longevity is following the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items like tires and brakes.

While generally durable, potential long-term weaknesses *might* include wear and tear on suspension components and potential issues with electronic components as the car ages. Rust can also be a factor in regions with harsh winters and road salt use. Regular washing and undercarriage cleaning can mitigate this.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Toyota Camry comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, a suite of driver-assistance features including pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on higher trims.

For entertainment, the Camry features a standard 7-inch touchscreen display (9-inch on higher trims) with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Optional features include a JBL premium audio system and wireless smartphone charging.

Safety is a priority. Expect a rearview camera standard.

Crash-test ratings are typically excellent. The NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) usually award the Camry with top scores for safety, including 5-star overall ratings from NHTSA and Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS (check current ratings for the 2022 model specifically, as ratings can vary slightly year to year). Features like ten airbags, enhanced vehicle stability control, and smart stop technology further enhance safety. While not standard, features like a head-up display are optional on higher trims, offering a convenient way to monitor speed and other critical information.

2022 Toyota Camry Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2022 Toyota Camry had a starting MSRP in the mid $20,000s, with higher trims reaching into the low $30,000s. Current used market prices vary based on condition, mileage, and trim level, but expect to find them in the range of the low $20,000s to high $20,000s. The Camry holds its value well due to its reputation for reliability and strong demand.

Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, trim level (higher trims retain more value), and accident history. Choosing popular colors can also positively impact resale value. Depreciation is typically lower than average for the mid-size sedan segment.

2022 Toyota Camry Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Toyota Camry is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel efficiency is excellent, especially with the 4-cylinder engine. Maintenance costs are predictable and relatively low due to Toyota's reliability and readily available parts. Repairs are also generally affordable. Overall, the Camry offers a low total cost of ownership compared to many other vehicles in its class, making it a financially sound choice. Consider this when making your purchase decision.

2022 Toyota Camry Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Toyota Camry is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Passenger Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Toyota Camry Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Toyota Camry competes with the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata, and Kia K5. The Camry excels in reliability and resale value, often surpassing its rivals. While the Accord might offer a slightly more engaging driving experience, the Camry provides a comfortable ride.

The Sonata and K5 offer more distinctive styling and often more features for the price, but may not match the Camry's long-term reliability reputation. The Altima offers available AWD, a feature not always found in this class, but its overall driving dynamics are less refined than the Camry.

Alternatives to consider include the Honda Accord (for a sportier drive) and the Hyundai Sonata/Kia K5 (for value and modern features). However, for those prioritizing reliability and a comfortable, dependable vehicle, the Camry remains a top contender. The Mazda 6 is another alternative with sporty driving dynamics and a premium interior, but it has been discontinued, making finding a used one more difficult. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a Good Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Toyota Camry is ideal for buyers prioritizing reliability, fuel efficiency, and a comfortable, no-frills driving experience. It's a solid choice for families, commuters, and anyone seeking a dependable vehicle.

Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and budget. A used 2022 Camry offers excellent value, especially if you can find a well-maintained example with low mileage. The XLE or XSE trims offer a good balance of features and comfort. If performance is a priority, the V6 engine is recommended. Overall, the 2022 Camry is a worthwhile purchase for those who value practicality and long-term dependability.

XLE CAMRY TOP OF THE LINE

XLE Camry. Top of the line of the Camrys and has better/safer features that are not available in the LE or SE. I have owned all of them. Lane shifting, blind spot, cruise control automatic traffic stop, self steering with supervision to name a few. Feel much safer in this one than the others on the highways. Love the back up camera. No more twisting.
