The 2022 Corolla offers excellent fuel efficiency and legendary reliability, appealing to practical buyers. Comfortable seats and a smooth ride enhance the driving experience. The updated design provides a more modern and stylish aesthetic, catering to emotional desires for a visually appealing and dependable car. It's a great value for the money.

The Bad

While reliable, the 2022 Corolla's base engine can feel underpowered, especially when accelerating or merging onto highways. The rear seat space might be cramped for taller passengers. Some may find the interior design conservative. Infotainment system response can be slow at times compared to competitors. Watch for potential issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) in higher mileage models.

What Problems Does the 2022 Toyota Corolla Have?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla generally maintains Toyota's reputation for reliability. However, some frequently reported problems include issues with the infotainment system, such as slow response times or occasional glitches with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Some owners have reported minor paint chipping, especially on the front bumper. There have been a few recalls related to the fuel pump and airbag systems, so it's crucial to check the VIN for outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability concerns are minimal, but as with any CVT transmission, regular fluid changes are essential to prevent premature failure. Some earlier model years (pre-2020) Corollas had reported higher oil consumption, but this seems to be less prevalent in the 2022 model. Overall, the 2022 Corolla exhibits fewer widespread issues compared to some of its competitors, contributing to its strong resale value and reputation for dependability. It is important to review the vehicle's maintenance history and obtain a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic to identify any potential problems before committing to a purchase. Addressing any recall notices is paramount to ensuring safety and reliability.

How long will the 2022 Toyota Corolla last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Toyota Corolla can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing over 10 years of reliable service. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule are key to longevity. The engine and drivetrain are generally very durable. However, the CVT transmission, if not properly maintained with fluid changes every 30,000-60,000 miles, could become a long-term weakness. Suspension components and rubber bushings may require replacement after several years. The interior materials are generally durable, but sun exposure can cause some fading over time.

First of all, Toyota can eat dirt for having an unintelligent auto lock system. It locked itself when my keys were on the floor. I got out of the car, closed the door, realized I didn’t have my keys and instantly dreaded when I heard a beep. Secondly, the USB port is in a horrendous spot, it’s almost like they forgot to include one until they slapped the whole thing together.

How Does the 2022 Toyota Corolla Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla competes with the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, and Nissan Sentra. In terms of reliability, the Corolla and Civic are generally considered class leaders. The Mazda3 offers a more engaging driving experience and a more upscale interior, but it's less fuel-efficient. The Hyundai Elantra provides more features for the price, but its long-term reliability is not as proven as the Corolla's. The Nissan Sentra offers a comfortable ride and stylish design but lags behind in performance and handling.

Compared to the Corolla, the Honda Civic offers a slightly more refined driving experience and a more modern interior, but it can be more expensive. The Mazda3 is a strong contender if driving enjoyment is a priority. For budget-conscious buyers, the Hyundai Elantra is worth considering. However, for a balance of reliability, fuel efficiency, safety, and value, the 2022 Toyota Corolla remains a top choice. If you prioritize driving dynamics, the Mazda3 might be a better alternative. If you seek more features at a lower price, the Hyundai Elantra is worth investigating.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a Good Sedan?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers, commuters, and anyone seeking a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle. It's worth buying, especially as a used car, given its strong resale value and proven dependability. The LE trim offers a good balance of features and affordability. Consider the SE or XSE trim if you desire a sportier driving experience with the more powerful 2.0L engine. While the base engine can feel underpowered, the Corolla excels in safety, reliability, and long-term value. If you prioritize driving excitement above all else, other options may be a better fit. But for practicality and peace of mind, the Corolla is hard to beat. Always check for maintenance history and potential recalls before purchasing a used model.

Exterior paint horrible

Toyota corolla 2022, paint job is horrible. First week after the purchase, I was on the highway, a truck went by and the cars paint chipped. The whole car has bits of chipped paint everywhere. Also when up a hill and the front bumper is cracked, it is so low in the front.

Good car but some "features" I do not like

Leasing this car. Expected to wait a couple of months but received a notification that a car matching my specifications would be available the next week. The car met most of my requirements. The price of the lease was considerably more than I expected to pay but I agreed to the terms. Two months after taking possession of the vehicle, the brake actuator failed and I lost use of the vehicle for two weeks. Of course, the repair of the brake actuator was under warranty! The miles per gallon are what I have come to expect from a Toyota Corolla - better than 40 mpg on the freeway, a little less on surface streets. I replaced the standard interior rear view mirror with the one that has a built in Universal garage door opener because there was not a convenient place to mount the garage door opener that I had used with two previous Toyota Corolla leases. The thing I like about this 2022 Toyota Corolla: good gas mileage, bright headlights, good interior space. Things I do not like: cheap plastic rear trunk wing that broke in drive through car wash, black out lettering that standout on the greyish body color, unlit driver side lock/unlock buttons that are hard to locate in the dark when getting out of the car.
