The 2007 Dodge Durango is a full-size SUV that offers robust power and ample space. Part of the second generation (2004-2009), it boasts a traditional SUV body-on-frame construction. Key trims include the SXT, SLT, Limited, and R/T. It stands out for its strong towing capacity and available V8 engines. Original pricing ranged from approximately $30,000 to $40,000 depending on the trim and options. Its popularity stems from its truck-like capabilities in an SUV package.
The Good

The 2007 Dodge Durango offers strong performance thanks to its V8 engine options, appealing to those seeking power. Its rugged design provides a sense of security. The comfortable and spacious interior makes it practical for families. While not the most efficient, its value as a used SUV, coupled with its towing capabilities, remains attractive.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2007 Dodge Durango include fuel economy, which can be poor, especially with the larger engines. Check for rust, especially in areas prone to road salt. Transmission issues have been reported, so a thorough inspection is advised. Also, be mindful of potential electrical problems and suspension wear due to its weight.

What Problems Does the 2007 Dodge Durango Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Dodge Durango often revolve around the transmission. Some owners have reported issues with shifting and premature failure. Electrical problems, such as issues with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), can also occur, leading to various electrical malfunctions. Rust is a common concern, particularly in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Check the undercarriage and body panels for signs of corrosion. Suspension components, especially ball joints and bushings, can wear out due to the vehicle's weight, requiring replacement. Fuel economy is generally poor, especially with the V8 engines, leading to higher running costs. Recalls have been issued for various issues, including problems with the fuel system, airbags, and electrical components. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability can be a concern if maintenance is neglected. Regular fluid changes, inspections, and prompt repairs are essential to keep the Durango running smoothly.

How long will the 2007 Dodge Durango last?

A 2007 Dodge Durango, with proper maintenance, can realistically reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 15-20 years of service, but this depends heavily on maintenance. Regular oil changes (every 3,000-5,000 miles), transmission fluid changes (every 30,000-60,000 miles), and timely repairs are crucial. Weaknesses over time often include rust, suspension wear, and potential transmission issues. Electrical problems, particularly with the TIPM, can also surface as the vehicle ages. Ignoring these issues will shorten the lifespan significantly. Preventative maintenance is key to maximizing the Durango's longevity.

This Durango has served our family well - dependable, comfortable, super ride, easy to drive - and an amazing 3rd row seat when our family grew. Highway miles, trips to the beach, campouts, and easy to load kayaks and paddleboards.

Great suv for the family, it looks great and the performance and handling for such a large suv really stands out. I have the 4.7 flex fuel and it's amazing and super cheap to fill up. The automatic AWD is a beast in the snow and you'll never have a worry about getting stuck, third row seats also have plenty of room for adults compared to other suv's

The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings should also be checked for a more comprehensive assessment.

Optional features included a sunroof, DVD entertainment system for rear passengers, and remote start. 2007 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Dodge Durango ranged from approximately $30,000 to $40,000 depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, varying based on condition, mileage, and location. The Durango has depreciated significantly due to its age, fuel economy, and maintenance costs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, mileage, service history, and the presence of desirable options like the HEMI engine or a clean Carfax report. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command higher prices, but expect significant depreciation regardless.

2007 Dodge Durango Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Dodge Durango is generally considered costly to own. Insurance costs can be moderate to high, depending on the driver's record and coverage. Fuel economy is poor, leading to significant fuel expenses. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to the vehicle's age and potential for mechanical issues. Expect to spend on repairs related to the transmission, suspension, and electrical systems. Long-term ownership requires a budget for regular maintenance and potential repairs, making it less economical than more fuel-efficient and reliable alternatives.

2007 Dodge Durango Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Dodge Durango is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 Dodge Durango competed with SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Explorer, and Nissan Pathfinder. In terms of performance, the Durango offered comparable or slightly better power, particularly with the HEMI V8, compared to the Tahoe and Explorer. However, the Pathfinder offered a more refined driving experience. Feature-wise, the Durango was competitive, offering similar amenities to its rivals. Reliability is where the Durango fell short. The Tahoe and Pathfinder generally had better reliability ratings. The Explorer had a mixed reputation. Price-wise, used Durangos are often more affordable than comparable Tahoes, reflecting their reliability differences.

Alternatives to the Durango include the Toyota 4Runner, known for its exceptional reliability, though it may be more expensive. The Honda Pilot offers better fuel economy and reliability, but less towing capacity. The Chevrolet Tahoe is a similar alternative but often more expensive on the used market. If reliability and fuel economy are priorities, the Pilot or 4Runner are better choices. If raw power and towing capacity are paramount and budget is a concern, the Durango might be considered with thorough inspection.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Dodge Durango a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 Dodge Durango is ideal for buyers prioritizing towing capacity and interior space on a limited budget. It's worth buying *used* if a thorough inspection reveals a well-maintained example and the price reflects its potential maintenance needs. Specific trims like the R/T offer enhanced performance, while the Limited provides more luxury. However, be prepared for higher fuel and maintenance costs. Due to the age of the vehicle, a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is crucial. If reliability and fuel economy are paramount, consider alternatives. Otherwise, a carefully selected Durango can provide a lot of capability for the money.

Best vehicle I've ever had

I have never loved a vehicle like I do my Durango. It has so much room, is durable, and I haven't had to do any repairs to it in my 5 plus years of owning it. I even hit a deer at about 45 mph and just had a cracked grill. It is such a safe vehicle to drive, even in the snow. It's sitting at over 220,000 miles and still runs like a dream. Only negatives are it has some rust spots and the gas mileage isn't great, but I'll take those trade offs to feel safe and secure during my commute.

Great car but not the great on gas. But you dont buy this for the MPG's. I wish they had a captian chair option. This thing is a beast in the snow!

A Lotta Bang For Your Buck.

I've put over 200k miles on the 5.7L V-8 HEMI Terrific POWER AND RELIALBILITY!! I was suprisingly very pleased with the Durango. Still looks very good inside. The only complaint is the typical Dodge rust around rear wheel wells and doors.

Most Reliable and Safe vehicle for my Family

This SUV meets most of my needs. Plenty of leg room. Even the 3rd row seating is comfortable. 2nd Row seating leans back, so my girls can sit back and relax on long road trips. Has stock AC outlet in 2nd row for accessories. Strong reliable Hemi engine has never left us stranded or worried about any failure. Short wheel base makes for great steering and balanced weight in bad road conditions. Rear doors open to 90Γ―ΒΏΒ½, much further than any other rear door I?ve seen or used, which makes loading and unloading much easier.

I have it as a tow vehicle for my travel trailer. More than enough power with a transmission cooler and heavy duty radiator. I will likely add heavy duty rear springs.
