The 2016 Dodge Durango is a three-row SUV known for its muscular styling and blend of SUV practicality with truck-like capability. It continues the Durango's legacy as a family-friendly vehicle with a performance edge. Key trims include SXT, Limited, Citadel, and R/T. Pricing ranged from approximately $30,000 to $45,000 when new. The Durango stands out due to its available V8 engine, aggressive looks, and impressive towing capacity, making it popular for families needing space and power.
The Good

The 2016 Dodge Durango offers a compelling blend of advantages. Performance-oriented buyers appreciate the available V8 engine and sporty handling. Practical buyers value its spacious interior, towing capacity, and available all-wheel drive. Comfort is enhanced by a well-appointed cabin, while the bold design appeals to those seeking a stylish SUV. While not the most efficient, it provides a decent value for its capabilities.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2016 Dodge Durango include lower fuel economy compared to some competitors, particularly with the V8 engine. What Problems Does the 2016 Dodge Durango Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2016 Dodge Durango include issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, such as freezing, crashing, and connectivity problems. Some owners have also reported problems with the electronic stability control (ESC) system and the anti-lock braking system (ABS).
There have been recalls for the 2016 Durango, including recalls related to the fuel pump relay, which could cause the vehicle to stall, and issues with the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module, which could affect airbag deployment.
Long-term reliability concerns sometimes revolve around the transmission, particularly with high mileage. Some owners have reported rough shifting or complete transmission failure. The V8 engine, while powerful, can also be prone to issues if not properly maintained. It's crucial to check the vehicle's maintenance history and address any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Specific model year issues should be researched through NHTSA and owner forums to gain a comprehensive understanding.

How long will the 2016 Dodge Durango last?

With proper maintenance, a 2016 Dodge Durango can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, or 10 to 15 years of service. Longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission servicing, and timely repairs. Durability can be impacted by the climate and driving conditions. Weaknesses over time often include wear and tear on suspension components, potential issues with the electrical system, and the aforementioned transmission concerns. Rust can also become a factor in areas with harsh winters. Careful owners who address issues promptly can extend the vehicle's lifespan significantly.

Negative Owner Reviews

I had this vehicle for one week as a rental vehicle (I wrecked my vehicle). This is not the vehicle for me at all. It doesn't have a backup camera or bluetooth, which I hate. It drives okay, but it is definitely a gas-guzzler. I would not recommend getting this car at all.

The 2016 Dodge Durango offers a range of tech and safety features. Standard on lower trims is the Uconnect 5.0 system with a 5-inch touchscreen. 2016 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2016 Dodge Durango ranged from around $30,000 for the base SXT to $45,000+ for a fully loaded Citadel or R/T. Current used market prices vary based on condition, mileage, and location, but generally range from $15,000 to $25,000. Depreciation is fairly typical for its class. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and trim level. V8 models and those with popular options like leather and navigation tend to hold their value better. Low mileage examples in excellent condition command a premium.

2016 Dodge Durango Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Dodge Durango is moderately costly to own. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel costs can be high, especially with the V8 engine. Maintenance is generally routine, but repairs can be more expensive than some competitors, particularly for the Uconnect system and transmission. Long-term ownership costs are impacted by potential reliability issues. While not the most economical choice, it offers a balance of performance and practicality that justifies the cost for many buyers. Budgeting for potential repairs is advisable.

2016 Dodge Durango Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Dodge Durango is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2016 Dodge Durango competes with SUVs like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. In terms of performance, the Durango, especially with the V8, offers a more powerful and engaging driving experience than the Highlander or Pilot. The Explorer Sport offers similar performance. Feature-wise, the Durango is comparable, though the Highlander and Pilot often have a slight edge in available advanced safety features. Reliability is where the Durango lags slightly behind Toyota and Honda, though it's generally on par with Ford. Price-wise, the Durango is often competitive, sometimes slightly more affordable than equivalently equipped rivals.
Alternatives to consider include:
* Ford Explorer: A strong all-around competitor with a more modern interior.
* Toyota Highlander: Known for its reliability and fuel efficiency.
* Honda Pilot: Offers excellent passenger space and safety features.
* Chevrolet Traverse/GMC Acadia: Larger options with more cargo space.
If reliability is a top priority, the Highlander or Pilot are better choices. If performance is key, the Durango R/T or Explorer Sport are strong contenders.

Final Verdict: Is the 2016 Dodge Durango a Good Vehicle?

The 2016 Dodge Durango is ideal for families who need a spacious and capable SUV with a touch of performance. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you prioritize power and towing capacity over ultimate fuel efficiency and rock-solid reliability. Consider a Limited or Citadel trim for a good balance of features and price. A pre-purchase inspection is crucial to identify potential issues, particularly with the transmission and Uconnect system. Avoid examples with a questionable maintenance history. The R/T is a great choice for those wanting a sporty SUV, but be prepared for higher running costs.

Can't wait to get rid of it.

Finally bought my first new car at 41 years of age. I regret nothing more in my life than buying a Dodge. After 3 years of ownership, the dealership has put almost 1000 miles on my truck trying to diagnose all the issues I have had and continue to have. The Ò€œaward winning Penta Star V6Ò€ is an embarrassment. I have the acceleration of a 4 cyl with the mileage of an 8 cylinder. The start/stop feature has almost caused three accidents for me. I have shifting issues, xxxx poor mileage, body and paint issues, interior issues, electrical issues, etc. Interior detail trim pieces are peeling off, and I have replaced the wipers 12 times already. Now my factory warranty is expired and I am being charged diagnosis fees and deductibles even after purchasing the extended warranty. If you are in the market for a new vehicle, drive right passed the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer and find an auto manufacturer that cares about their customers.

Comfortable, Tow Capacity, Features

The vehicle is perfect for what I was looking for, towing, third row, comfortable, spacious, safety features, leather seats, etc. We have 3 dogs, a baby on the way, and a skyline GTR that gets towed around. Three days after owning it we towed the skyline to the track, folded down the rear seats and loaded up the back with tools, spare parts, food, etc. The drive there was very smooth, the V8 does an excellent job with towing the 5800 lbs and i averaged 12.8 MPG. It was very useful spending all day at the track and having friends use the SUV to put stuff in and grabbing tools out of etc. We got home and unloaded everything and a quick vacuum of the cargo space left it looking good as new. I am very pleased with the vehicle and am planning a 14 hour drive up north later this month to test out the ACC and long haul comfort. It does ride very smooth around feels fairly luxurious for being an american made SUV. Very impressed!
