The Good
The 2020 Dodge Durango offers strong performance, especially with the V8 engines, appealing to emotional buyers who crave power. Practical advantages include decent interior space and high towing capacity. Comfort is adequate, and the design is aggressive and recognizable. Reliability is generally average, but the value proposition is strong, offering a lot of capability for the price.
The Bad
The 2020 Dodge Durango's weaknesses include below-average fuel economy, particularly with the V8 engines. The interior, while functional, isn't as luxurious or modern as some competitors. Some owners have reported issues with the Uconnect infotainment system. Be mindful of potential electrical glitches and ensure proper maintenance to avoid costly repairs.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2020 Dodge Durango Have?
Recalls for the 2020 Durango are worth investigating on the NHTSA website (nhtsa.gov) using the VIN of the specific vehicle you are considering. Common recalls may involve issues with the rearview camera, airbags, or other safety-related components.
Long-term reliability can be affected by regular maintenance. Proper servicing of the transmission and cooling system is crucial for longevity. The V8 engines, while powerful, can be more prone to issues if not properly maintained. Earlier model years (prior to 2018) had more widespread reports of TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) failures, which can cause a variety of electrical problems. While less prevalent in the 2020 model, it's still worth being aware of. Thoroughly inspecting a used Durango and reviewing its maintenance history is highly recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features, depending on the trim level and options, may include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. Parking sensors and a rearview camera are standard on most trims.
Safety features include standard stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a suite of airbags. Optional features like all-wheel drive enhance traction in various conditions.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific scores. Generally, the Durango performs well in crash tests, but ratings can vary slightly by model year and testing criteria. Check official sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

How Does the 2020 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Feature-wise, the Durango is competitive, offering similar tech and driver-assistance features. However, the interior design and materials may feel slightly dated compared to the newer Explorer or the more refined Highlander. Reliability is generally average, with the Highlander and Pilot often scoring higher in reliability surveys. The Traverse offers more cargo space, but its driving experience is less engaging.
In terms of price, the Durango typically offers a good value proposition, especially considering its available performance. Alternatives to consider include the Ford Explorer (for similar performance and updated features), the Toyota Highlander (for superior reliability and fuel economy), and the Chevrolet Traverse (for maximum cargo space). Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities – performance, reliability, features, or price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2020 Dodge Durango a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Dodge foreverBought new in 2020. Has only 23,000 miles . Love this car. Roomy, comfortable, has 3 row seating and the hatch back for easy carrying groceries and unloading. Peppy with the Hemi V8, but mileage is only 15-17 mpg. Don't care because it's fun to drive, good looking and easy to maneuver and park. All the whistle and bells on it. Probably my last car. Registered on NHTSA so have had no recalls. We do have a 2024 Ram with the Hemi. Will keep that one too.

Don't buyJust buy a Kia, my Kia is older, has more miles, and way fewer problems. Unless if you want to fork out a lot of money for repairs, because the “premium warranty†doesn't cover anything so far.

Great vehicleVery roomy and comfortable. 2 teenagers fit in the third row no problem. Smooth ride and good on gas for an SUV. Would highly recommend this vehicle.

Comfort and StylePlenty of room and style my 2 youngest children enjoy the 3rd seat. Plenty of room for 2nd row. Small cargo area behind 3rd row. However it is big enough for groceries.

Great 3 row SUV for the moneyThis is our third Durango Citadel since 2014. We have found them to be reliable and a very good vehicle for the money. We expect this one to be as good as the first 2.

Broke down after 500 mikesThis is our second Durango. We had a 2019 but did not have all the equipment we wanted. We put 25000 miles on the car with Zero problems. We bought the 2020 because it was fully loaded but it broke down after the first 500 miles. Not sure if this is an isolated incident or if the car is going to be a lemon.

Nice suvMy husband and I went to purchase a specific vehicle. Once we looked at the vehicle we wanted we realized it was not large enough. We did find the Durango and fell in love with it.
