Rating: 4.75
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2018 Dodge Durango is a three-row SUV known for its muscular styling and performance-oriented driving experience. Part of the Durango's third generation (2011-present), the 2018 model offered a compelling blend of family-friendly practicality and Dodge's signature attitude. Key trims included SXT, GT, Citadel, and the high-performance R/T and SRT. Original pricing ranged roughly from $30,000 to $70,000 depending on trim and options. Its powerful engine options and available all-wheel drive made it a popular choice for those needing both space and capability.
The Good

The 2018 Dodge Durango's advantages include strong engine performance, particularly with the V8 options, offering quick acceleration and impressive towing capacity. It delivers a comfortable ride and spacious interior. The muscular design is appealing. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides good value for those needing a powerful and versatile SUV, blending practicality with an emotional appeal through its performance capabilities.

The Bad

Known weaknesses of the 2018 Dodge Durango include its fuel economy, especially with the larger engines. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and electronic components. The third-row seating can be cramped for adults on longer trips. Watch out for potential issues with the rear suspension and ensure regular maintenance is performed to avoid costly repairs.

What Problems Does the 2018 Dodge Durango Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2018 Dodge Durango include issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, such as freezing, lagging, or connectivity problems. Some owners have reported problems with the electronic stability control system and the anti-lock braking system. There have also been reports of issues with the water pump and cooling system, leading to potential engine overheating. Certain recalls may have been issued related to airbag deployment or fuel leaks; it's essential to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the vehicle's electronics and the potential for wear and tear on the suspension components, especially with models frequently used for towing. While the engine itself is generally robust, proper maintenance, including regular oil changes and cooling system flushes, is crucial for longevity. Some owners have also noted premature wear on brake components. Ensuring the vehicle has received all necessary software updates and addressing any warning lights promptly can help mitigate potential long-term issues.

How long will the 2018 Dodge Durango last?

With regular maintenance, a 2018 Dodge Durango can typically last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. However, longevity heavily depends on owner maintenance habits. Durability is generally good with the powertrain, but potential weaknesses include the electronic components and suspension system. Proper fluid changes (oil, transmission, coolant) and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires are crucial. Rust can also become a factor in colder climates where road salt is used. Consistent preventative maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan and reduce the risk of major repairs.
Positive Owner Reviews

Dodge Durango GT with towing package. Great SUV for the money. we currently have 34000 miles and no major issues so far. Our Uconnect system had to be replaced because it would not update. Was covered under warranty. We tow a 5000lb travel trailer and it does fine on the flats , but struggles a bit in the mountains. I was impressed how all the operating temperatures were in check while pulling a 7% grade on a 95 degree day. (I have since bought a Ram 1500 to do the towing). This car is an excellent road tripper and I am impressed with the spunk of the 3.6. So far the only weak link has been the Uconnect system. I hope it holds up for the duration of the vehicle.
Joice R. W.
This car had less than 23,000 miles. I purchased an awesome car. The drive is smooth and relaxing. I would recommend a Dodge Durango to anyone.

This car has exceeded my expectations! Looking forward to using the tow option which was a major reason to buy. My family is excited to take a trip in it.

Thought I might like to get out of my 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and into a hemi. Dealer was a rip off. There was little difference between this a my 2016 v6 grand caravan. So why buy it for 47k.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2018 Dodge Durango features the Uconnect infotainment system, available with a 7-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen. Standard tech includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Entertainment options can include a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

Driver-assistance features vary by trim and options, but may include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. A rearview camera and rear parking sensors are typically standard.

Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Available all-wheel drive enhances traction and stability in adverse conditions.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific safety performance. Generally, the Durango performed well in crash tests, but ratings can vary. Optional features like advanced safety technologies contribute to a safer driving experience. It's crucial to check the specific features of the model being considered, as they can vary significantly based on trim level and optional packages.

2018 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2018 Dodge Durango ranged from approximately $30,000 for the base SXT to over $70,000 for a fully-equipped SRT model. Current used market prices vary widely based on condition, mileage, and trim, typically ranging from $20,000 to $40,000. Depreciation is moderate for the Durango compared to some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, trim level (SRT models hold their value better), and the presence of desirable options such as the V8 engine and advanced safety features. Market demand for SUVs also plays a significant role.

2018 Dodge Durango Cost of Ownership

The 2018 Dodge Durango's ownership costs are generally moderate to high. Insurance costs are comparable to other SUVs in its class, but can be higher for the SRT model. We've had a few hiccups in the car the one I'd like to most point out that I think there needs to be a recall on the back LED light stripping failure

Sportiest and fastest SUV out there!

I love this car! The HEMI moves it forward with lots of power ad great sound. The sport suspension keeps the tires on the ground and limits roll. Despite the size, you feel like you are driving a sports car. With the 3rd row, great for family as well as transporting sporting foods etc.
