What Problems Does the 2009 Dodge Durango Have?
While specific recalls may vary, checking the NHTSA website for recalls related to the 2009 Dodge Durango is recommended. Some common recalls for this generation of Durango have involved issues with the airbags, fuel systems, and electrical components. Long-term reliability can be affected by regular maintenance neglect, particularly concerning oil changes and transmission fluid flushes. Addressing these potential issues proactively can significantly extend the lifespan of the vehicle. Owners should also be aware of potential issues with the climate control system, including AC compressor failures.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
In terms of safety, the Durango came standard with anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features on higher trims included rear parking sensors. Driver-assistance features were relatively limited compared to modern vehicles, focusing primarily on stability and traction control.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally showed good performance in frontal crash tests, but side-impact protection varied. It's important to consult the NHTSA website for specific crash test ratings for the 2009 model year.
Tech features like Bluetooth connectivity and navigation were typically optional extras or standard only on the top-tier Limited trim. The overall tech and safety suite was competitive for its era, but noticeably less advanced than contemporary SUVs.

2009 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value
Depreciation has been significant, as expected for a full-size SUV. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and geographical location. Models with the HEMI engine and well-maintained examples tend to hold their value better. High mileage and deferred maintenance drastically reduce resale value.

How Does the 2009 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Reliability is where the Durango falls slightly short. The Tahoe and Sequoia have generally better reliability reputations. The Expedition offers similar reliability and towing capabilities. In terms of price, the Durango often presents a slightly more affordable option on the used market compared to the Sequoia, but similar to the Tahoe and Expedition.
Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Sequoia for superior reliability, or the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon for a more refined interior and similar capabilities. If reliability is a primary concern, the Sequoia is a better choice. If budget is the main driver, a well-maintained Tahoe or Expedition could be a comparable alternative.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Dodge Durango a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Lemon VehicleI recently purchased a 2009 Dodge Durango from this dealer as a referral. My bf owns the same car from them & has had it over two yrs so they seemed reputable. We did a live tour of the vehicle, and at the time everything with the truck seemed great besides there being a check engine light on the dashboard. They were advised, I was not interested in a car with any issues or any dashboard lights; especially the check engine light! They reassured me that they can fix that issue (check engine light) by changing out the truck's fuel tank. I bought the truck outright & gave them the job of getting it delivered to me to California. They advised the part was changed, and the day of the tow we paid for expedited shipping. Gil, the sales manager, continuously, reassured the light is off and there are no lights displayed on the dashboard. The truck was set to be sent with an eta of Tues (2/2/21)/Wed afternoon (2/3/21) which quickly changed to Friday afternoon 3/5/21. Friday morning of the expected delivery date, I received a text from an unknown

Very reliable and SAFEThis is the 2nd Durango I have owned. I feel very safe in this vehicle and it's very comfortable and roomy for the family with room to spare. It's been perfect for me as a mom from the moment we brought our son home from the hospital keeping him safe to now as a 4 year old. Plenty of room for all the baby/kid gear.

Great overall vehicle and tows car/trailer easilyI have owned two of this model, both Hemi powered. Fuel mileage is not bad for an AWD vehicle of this size and power. I constanly average 20 plus mpg on long trips, and 15/16 city/combined. First set of new tires at 60K miles, always synthetic oil from the beginning, never an engine misfire or other issue. Solid transmission, gearing just right for towing my aluminum car trailer and race car.

GREAT, BUTT!!!This is a very good vehicle for bad weather and overall reliability. However, the front passenger seat is terribly uncomfortable. It dos not recline nearly as fas as the drivers side, and it has average visibility. Other than that it's a good buy.

What a Price!I am located in Germany. I bought my 5.7 L Hemi 4x4, with a lot of features, for the sensationel Price of EUR 23'000. It's a great car!! Daimler ML, BMW X - forget it!

Not bad big SUVIf you want something that has power and drives very nice, this is the SUV. I warn you gas milage on the HEMI is sickening. I have had the vehicle for over three years and I tow a travel trailer. The vehicle has NO probelm towing anything with significant power in the HEMI. Handling is amazing. The only area I would improve is the interior, kinda too much plastic.

Most reliable car I have ownedI like the Hemi 5.7 Lt engine. It is powerful and quiet. The interior space is very generous. The driver seat view clearance is excellent.
