The Good
The 2017 Durango boasts strong performance with available V6 and V8 engines, offering impressive acceleration and towing. It provides a comfortable and spacious interior for families. Its muscular design appeals to emotional buyers, while its practicality and available all-wheel drive resonate with practical considerations. Reliability is generally good, and the value proposition is competitive.
The Bad
Some 2017 Durango owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including glitches and slow response times. Fuel economy, especially with the V8, can be a significant drawback. Watch out for potential problems with the electrical system and ensure proper maintenance of the automatic transmission. The third-row seat can be cramped for adults.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2017 Dodge Durango Have?
Recalls for the 2017 Durango have addressed issues such as potential rollaway risk due to improper shifter cable installation, and problems with the cruise control system that could prevent it from disengaging. Always check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the vehicle's electronics. Proper maintenance, especially fluid changes for the transmission and cooling system, is crucial for long-term durability. The V8 engine, while powerful, can be more prone to wear and tear if not properly maintained. Additionally, some owners have noted that the plastic trim pieces in the interior can be susceptible to scratches and wear over time. Regular servicing and addressing minor issues promptly can help mitigate potential long-term reliability problems.

Driver-assistance features varied by trim and options packages but could include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. A rearview camera is generally standard.
Safety features included multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and anti-lock brakes. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded the 2017 Dodge Durango a 4-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings may vary; it's best to check their official website for specific crash test results for this model year. The availability of advanced safety features made the Durango a reasonably safe choice for families.

How Does the 2017 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Feature-wise, the Durango is competitive, although the Highlander and Pilot often have slightly better reputations for reliability. The Traverse and Explorer often come in at a lower price point. The Durango's Uconnect system is user-friendly, but some rivals offer more advanced driver-assistance technologies.
Alternatives to consider: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot are excellent choices. If cargo space is paramount, the Chevrolet Traverse is a good option. If you prioritize performance and towing capacity and don't mind sacrificing some fuel economy, the Durango is a strong contender. The Ford Explorer offers a blend of performance and features at a competitive price.

Purchased my '17 DD GT with 25k miles on it.Purchased my '17 DD GT with 25k miles on it. Have owned for around 4 years and now have 66k miles. Haven't had any issues. Routine maintenance only. Love the style and comfort. Interior seats are comfortable for long drives. Mine came with lifetime oil changes. Dealer support has been good (although we've only had oil changes so hard to say). I'm hoping this continues.

GUTSY DURANGO R/TR/T Blacktop Edition, had wheels chrome anodized as part of deal. Incredible pep and still I have life-of-car mpg of almost 19mpg! Infotainment system rated as the most intuitive on the market. THAT is true! Approaching 30k miles and so far only in last month one problem. Water pump sprung tiny leak. In 2017 dealers offered LIFETIME warranty for entire drivetrain plus some. YEP! They replaced it and it cost me ZERO. DEALERSHIP that did work told me NEVER sell this car! Someone that has a business bought an entire fleet and have had engines replaced after 500,000 miles! Free! Captains seats and console in second row, sunroof, towing package, BEATS stereo kicks a$$ !!! Air conditioners for front and rear. Plenty of cargo room convertible to (2) more seats if necessary for short trips or smaller people. USB ports and electrical plugs everywhere! Sport Mode, Paddle shifters, tons of goodies. Don't get one with Auto-Stop though. Dealer said I made the right choice not ordering that. He said people hate it. Mine has the “turn-knob†shifter that was a downer at first. Didn't think I'd EVER get used to that! But I did and it is so much less of a pain because it is so flat and doesn't stick up in your way. Plenty of cup-holders, pockets on doors, etc. Car has a wonderful and SOLID feel. No squeaks or rattles at all. Love the options with the dashboard instruments too. Yes. This car will stay with me a VERY LONG TIME.

UnreliableI always had Japanese vehicles and this was my first American car, I liked the appearance and comfort for the family. The vehicle was pre certified from the dealership with 15k. Ive never had a vehicle that had so many electrical problems/ failures. Dodge has a horrible unreliable can-bus system that plagued it with issues every couple of months { issues began at 22k - 97k } At a milage of 60k { Proper service/ maintenance } The right side cylinder head needed replacement { rocker / cam failure ? } thankfully I had purchased extended warranty. I had the battery's replaced 6 times for all electrical issues { battery light on/autostart }. Service technicians and managers always said it was the battery { They were clueless/ probably just reset all the modules }. Beware of dodge they look nice but do your research/forums and you'll be surprised with all the complaints. It will leave stranded when least expected. We Sold the vehicle and we purchased a 2022 Acura RDX { Luxury , sporty , RELIABLE and electrically simple }.

Upgrade from 2006 --- 2017Purchased this awithout test driving nor visiting dealership. I'm thoroughly satisfied. I previously owned an 06 Durango and it lasted 14 years so I decided to try again and it is a nice upgrade. The comfort, style and features are quite nice, 3 USB ports, 110 plus, nice let room, trunk space and storage. I've only had it for a month but so far I'm pleased.

HEMI=FUNIs an RT trim and is just fun to drive. The HEMI just puts a smile on my face.. the sound.. the looks.. is just perfect! If you need a family vehicle but your not settling with the minivan look.. look no further the Durango RT or SRT is the way to go.
