Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2019 Dodge Durango is a three-row SUV known for its muscular styling and performance-oriented character. Part of the Durango's third generation (2011-present), it offers a unique blend of SUV practicality and Dodge muscle car DNA. Key trims include the SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT. New pricing ranged approximately from $30,000 to over $60,000 for the SRT. It stands out due to its available V8 engines, ample towing capacity, and comfortable interior, making it popular with families needing power and space.
The Good

The 2019 Dodge Durango boasts strong performance, particularly with the V8 options, appealing to those who crave power. Comfort is another advantage, with a spacious and well-appointed cabin. Its aggressive design evokes an emotional response. For practical buyers, it offers solid towing capacity and a relatively reasonable price point compared to some competitors. While not the most fuel-efficient, it delivers good value for its capabilities.

The Bad

The 2019 Dodge Durango's weaknesses include below-average fuel economy, especially with the V8 engines. Reliability can be a concern, with some owners reporting issues with the electronics and infotainment system. The third-row seat is best suited for children. What Problems Does the 2019 Dodge Durango Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Dodge Durango often involve the Uconnect infotainment system, with complaints about freezing, lagging, and connectivity issues. Some owners have reported problems with the electrical system, including issues with the battery and sensors. Transmission issues, such as rough shifting or hesitation, have also been reported by some owners, although these are less common. There have been some recalls for the 2019 Durango, including issues with the cruise control system potentially failing to disengage and problems with the side airbags. Long-term reliability concerns center around the electronic components and the potential for increased maintenance costs as the vehicle ages. It's advisable to check the vehicle history for any completed recall repairs and to have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic to assess the overall condition and identify any potential problems. Regular maintenance, especially fluid changes for the transmission and differential, is crucial to mitigate long-term reliability concerns.

How long will the 2019 Dodge Durango last?

With proper maintenance, the 2019 Dodge Durango can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Owner data suggests that consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs, is critical for long-term durability. Weaknesses over time often include the aforementioned electronic issues and potential for increased wear and tear on suspension components, especially if the vehicle is frequently used for towing. Rust can also be a concern in areas with harsh winters. Addressing minor issues promptly can prevent them from escalating into more significant and costly repairs.

I love everything except the controls on the screen. I find them hard to use while driving. I would also like to see a clock in the center of the screen that it would default to after a few seconds of changing temps or radio station.

2019 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Dodge Durango ranged from around $30,000 for the base SXT to over $60,000 for the SRT. Current used market prices vary widely depending on condition, mileage, and trim level, ranging from approximately $20,000 to $40,000. The Durango depreciates at an average rate for its class. Insurance for a 2019 Dodge Durango is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Dodge Durango Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Dodge Durango competes with SUVs like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Chevrolet Traverse. In terms of performance, the Durango's available V8 engines give it an edge over most rivals, offering superior towing capacity and acceleration. Feature-wise, it holds its own, with a user-friendly infotainment system. However, the Highlander and Pilot generally offer better reliability ratings. The Traverse offers more cargo space. The Explorer, especially in its ST trim, provides a comparable performance-oriented experience. In terms of price, the Durango is generally competitive.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Ford Explorer: A good all-around choice with a sporty ST trim.
  • Toyota Highlander: Known for its reliability and resale value.
  • Honda Pilot: A practical and fuel-efficient option.
  • Chevrolet Traverse: Offers abundant cargo space and a comfortable ride.
The choice depends on priorities: If performance and towing are key, the Durango is a strong contender. If reliability and fuel economy are paramount, the Highlander or Pilot might be better choices.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Dodge Durango a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Dodge Durango is ideal for buyers who need a three-row SUV with strong performance and towing capabilities, and who appreciate its muscular styling. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you prioritize these features and are prepared for potentially higher fuel and maintenance costs. Consider the GT or R/T trims for the best balance of performance and features. A thorough inspection and vehicle history check are essential before purchasing a used Durango. If reliability is your top concern, other SUVs might be a better fit. However, for those seeking a powerful and capable family hauler, the Durango remains a compelling option.

Most impressive SUV I have ever driven.

We have 2 Durango's. (Have had 2 others previously). We have a 2018 SRT and a 2019 R/T. For performance, they just cannot be beat. The fastest 3 rd row SUV's built. But when you add everything else, the excellent ride, outstanding handling, the electronics packages offered, the great infotainment and apps system and not to mention all the safety features and you just cannot go wrong. My loaded R/T was $12,000.00 less than a base tahoe RS set up the same way and drove so much better. And it whipped the expedition from jump street. If you need a new SUV, don't buy anything until you test drive a new durango.

Spacious and sporty for a family vehicle. This is the second Durango we have owned and have been impressed with both. Both the citadel and the R/T have great options. Love the v8!
