Rating: 3.80
Based on 12 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The Dodge Durango, a mid-size SUV, has been around since 1998, offering a blend of muscle-car attitude and family practicality. The 2022 model continues this tradition with a three-row configuration and a bold design. Key trims include the SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and the high-performance SRT 392. The pricing range generally spans from around $37,000 to over $70,000, depending on the trim and options. It stands out for its powerful engine options, particularly the Hemi V8s, and its impressive towing capacity, making it a popular choice for those who need to haul trailers or boats.
The Good

The 2022 Dodge Durango offers exhilarating performance with its potent engine options and muscular styling that appeals to emotional buyers. Practically, it provides ample passenger and cargo space, excellent towing capability, and a comfortable ride. While not the most fuel-efficient, it offers a compelling blend of power and utility, representing good value for those needing its capabilities.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2022 Dodge Durango include its relatively poor fuel economy, especially with the V8 engines. The infotainment system, while functional, can feel dated compared to rivals. Some owners have reported minor electrical issues. The third-row seating is best suited for children or smaller adults, and the price can climb quickly with higher trims and options.

What Problems Does the 2022 Dodge Durango Have?

While the 2022 Dodge Durango doesn't have widespread, consistent issues, some commonly reported problems involve the infotainment system's responsiveness and occasional glitches. Some owners have noted minor electrical issues, such as problems with the power windows or door locks. Transmission hesitation or rough shifting has also been mentioned, although less frequently. It's crucial to check for any outstanding recalls on the specific vehicle's VIN. Recalls can address safety-related issues, so ensuring they've been resolved is essential.

Long-term reliability concerns are fairly typical for a vehicle with complex systems. Regular maintenance, especially fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant), is essential to prevent premature wear and tear. Some sources indicate that earlier model years (pre-2018) had some issues with the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), but those seem to be less prevalent in the 2022 model. Overall, the Durango's reliability is considered average for its class, but preventative maintenance is key to avoiding major problems down the road. Thoroughly inspecting the vehicle's service history and getting a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic are advisable.

How long will the 2022 Dodge Durango last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Dodge Durango can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Consistent oil changes, timely fluid replacements (transmission, coolant, brake fluid), and addressing minor repairs promptly are crucial.

Long-term durability can be affected by the vehicle's usage. Frequent towing at the maximum capacity can put extra strain on the engine and transmission, potentially shortening their lifespan. Keep an eye on suspension components, as they may wear out over time, especially if the vehicle is driven frequently on rough roads. Also, monitor for any signs of rust, particularly in areas prone to salt exposure.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Dodge Durango comes with a range of built-in tech and safety features. Standard entertainment includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Higher trims may feature a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium Alpine or Harman Kardon sound system.

Standard driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams.

Safety features encompass multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and a rearview camera. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) provide crash-test ratings. It's advisable to check their websites for the most up-to-date ratings for the 2022 model year. Generally, the Durango performs well in crash tests, offering good protection for occupants. The exact ratings vary depending on the specific test and criteria.

2022 Dodge Durango Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2022 Dodge Durango's MSRP ranged from approximately $37,000 for the base SXT to over $70,000 for the SRT 392. Used market prices vary depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. Expect to find used 2022 Durangos ranging from the mid-$30,000s to the high $50,000s.

Depreciation is moderate for the Durango, holding its value reasonably well, especially for V8-powered models. Factors affecting resale value include the engine (V8 models command higher prices), trim level (SRT and Citadel trims are desirable), overall condition, and the presence of desirable options like the towing package and advanced safety features. High mileage and a poor maintenance history will negatively impact resale value.

2022 Dodge Durango Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Dodge Durango is generally considered moderately costly to own. Insurance costs are average for its class, but fuel costs, especially with the V8 engines, can be high. Maintenance is typical, but repairs can be more expensive than some competitors, particularly for specialized parts or V8 engine work.

Long-term ownership costs will depend significantly on driving habits and maintenance. Opting for the V6 helps mitigate fuel expenses, but overall, the Durango prioritizes performance and capability over pure economy.

The 2022 Dodge Durango competes with SUVs like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade. Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Highlander is a solid choice. For better value and more features, consider the Kia Telluride or Hyundai Palisade. Three months of ownership, and I am pleased

I have always thought of the Durango as a sharp looking automobile. I had recently traded my 2012 Camry for a 2023 Camry but soon became tired of climbing out of the car, so I looked for something I didn't have to climb into, nor out of. The 2022 Durango GT+ (new) was the ticket. It had the ingress and egress I was seeking, the amenities the 2023 Camry XLE had, and the space to carry my two dogs, as well as people passengers. The vehicle is AWD, gets about 22mpg commuting to work, and around 25-26 on the Interstate and other highways. I love the quiet ride, the smooth suspension (yes, in town with crappy city streets and intersections it isn't as smooth as the Camry). The Pentastar V6 is our second experience with the engine which has never failed or had issues. The leather seating is comfortable, the AC works well, though the old R-34 was a better refrigerant. The UConnect 5 / 10.1 system with navigation, SiriusXM, etc is great, I just wish it had a CD player, yeah, I know I can stream, BT, or aux it, but I do like to play my CD collection too, without having to rip the music onto my phone... I'd buy it again!

Not happy with the way Dodge cares.

I bought my 2022 Durango R/T H4 and had my wife pick it up. I noticed all four wheel hubs that were painted the car color were scratched and rusted (immediately). After the first hand wash, I found doors not aligned and a hose hanging under the vehicle. I attempted contacting the dealership and went as far as quality control at assembly line. Just the normal run around, until I just gave up and called $60K a waste of money. I now have 3100 miles on it and have yet to have anyone attempt to repair the mistakes made while building. I can say that it rides decent, but would not buy the junk again. Get a better car if for nothing more than customer service.

2022 Durango RT+

This is our second Durango RT that we have purchased. We put 70000 miles on our 2015 and never had to leave at the service department for anything. This 2022 Rt Plus has major improvements and performance. I do not expect anything less and this SUV puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
