2014 Chevrolet Impala Review: Decent, but Outshined by Comparable 2014 Full-size Sedans

Rating: 4.57
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala marked a significant redesign for the iconic nameplate. This full-size sedan moved away from its rental-car image, embracing a more stylish and sophisticated design. It's a 4-door sedan. While the Impala name has existed for decades, the 2014 model year initiated the tenth generation (2014-2020). Key trims included LS, LT, and LTZ. New pricing ranged from approximately $27,000 to $36,000. Its redesigned interior, improved fuel economy, and comfortable ride made it a popular choice for families and those seeking a spacious sedan.
The Good

The 2014 Impala offers a compelling blend of attributes. Practically, it boasts a spacious interior, good fuel economy for its size, and a reputation for reasonable reliability. Emotionally, its sleek design and comfortable ride provide a sense of luxury and sophistication. The strong V6 engine delivers confident acceleration, appealing to drivers seeking enjoyable performance. It's a good value for a large sedan, striking a balance between affordability and features.

The Bad

While generally reliable, the 2014 Impala has some potential weaknesses. Some owners have reported issues with the MyLink infotainment system, including glitches and slow response times. The rear visibility can be limited due to the car's design. Early model year 2014 cars also had some reports of transmission issues, although these seem to be less common after initial production runs. Check for proper electronic functionality and smooth shifting during a test drive.

What Problems Does the 2014 Chevrolet Impala Have?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala, while generally a reliable vehicle, has had some reported issues. The MyLink infotainment system is a common source of complaints, with owners reporting glitches, slow response times, and connectivity problems. Some have experienced issues with the system freezing or failing to connect to smartphones properly. Some owners have also reported problems with the automatic transmission, including harsh shifting and occasional slipping, especially in the earlier production models of the 2014 model year. It's recommended to have the transmission fluid checked and changed regularly. Other reported issues include problems with the power windows and door locks.

Recalls have been issued for the 2014 Impala, including issues related to the electronic power steering (EPS) system, which could potentially cause a loss of steering assist. Always check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the electronic components and the potential for increased repair costs as the vehicle ages. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to mitigating these risks. The 2014 model year's electrical systems should be closely monitored for any malfunctions.

How long will the 2014 Chevrolet Impala last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding this milestone with regular servicing. Expect at least 10-15 years of service with consistent care. Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses. Keep an eye on the transmission, as mentioned previously. Also, monitor for any rust, especially in areas with harsh winter conditions. The suspension components may require attention over time, and the electronic systems, especially the MyLink infotainment, are potential points of failure as the car ages. Proper fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant) and timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires, belts) are crucial for long-term reliability.

This is a great car but after 3 years I started having problems with the stability track, I would standing still at a light or making a turn and it would stall and even loose power, this is very frightening, I took it to the dealer who charged with $2000 to fix it and less that one year it is doing it again
Clifford Kizer
The passenger side seat sensor comes on and active the airbag light saying there is some one in the passenger seat is setting there when no one is goes of and on all the time

It’s a great ride. The car looks great and is really comfortable. Great car by Chevy. I’ve gotten tons of complements on the car and the interior too.
Negative Owner Reviews

This car didn’t meet the expectations I was expected, from day one it gave electrical problems and the paint star come in off last bad problem water goes in the trunk from a ligh
Darryl R
The car is poorly manufactured. I have had to replace most of the front end and power steering and the car only has 41000 miles. Parts are hard to get it took two weeks to get a power steering unit
no1memereinme
The 2014 Impala is not comfortable. Head rest leans too far forward and cannot be adjusted back far enough to be comfortable abd cause neck pain. Back seats are too hard. Front seat pan curves up too much and although I am a thin person the sides of seat pan put too much pressure on side of thighs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala offers a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. The standard infotainment system in lower trims is fairly basic, but the LT and LTZ trims get the MyLink system with an 8-inch touchscreen, which includes Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration, and available navigation. Entertainment features include a six-speaker audio system in the LS trim, with options for upgraded Bose sound systems in higher trims.

Driver-assistance features, depending on the trim and options, include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and blind-spot monitoring. Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a full complement of airbags (front, side, and curtain).

The 2014 Impala performed well in crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded it a Top Safety Pick. These ratings reflect the Impala's strong performance in protecting occupants in the event of a collision. Optional features enhanced the safety and tech offerings depending on the trim level chosen.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala had an MSRP ranging from approximately $27,000 for the base LS trim to around $36,000 for the fully-loaded LTZ. As of today, used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Impala has experienced significant depreciation over the years, which is typical for full-size sedans. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition (accident-free, well-maintained), mileage, trim level (LTZ models hold their value better), and geographic location. Demand for larger sedans has decreased in recent years, contributing to the depreciation.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is relatively economical to own for a full-size sedan. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel costs depend on driving habits and engine choice, with the 2.5L offering better fuel economy than the V6. Routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations) is generally affordable. However, repairs to the MyLink system or transmission can be costly. Long-term ownership costs are reasonable, provided that regular maintenance is performed to prevent major issues. Overall, it strikes a good balance between comfort, features, and affordability.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Chevrolet Impala is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Chevrolet Impala Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala competes with other full-size sedans like the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, and Chrysler 300. In terms of performance, the Impala's V6 engine is competitive, though the Chrysler 300 offers more powerful V8 options. Feature-wise, the Impala offers a good balance, but the Avalon might have a slight edge in terms of standard equipment and a more user-friendly infotainment system. Reliability is generally good for the Impala, but the Avalon has a stronger reputation for long-term dependability. In terms of price, the Impala is typically more affordable than the Avalon, but comparable to the Taurus and 300.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Avalon, which offers superior reliability and a more luxurious interior. The Ford Taurus offers available all-wheel drive, which is not available on the Impala. The Chrysler 300 provides a more stylish and muscular design with available V8 power. Each alternative has its strengths, so the best choice depends on individual priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala a Good Sedan?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is a good choice for buyers seeking a spacious and comfortable full-size sedan at an affordable price. It's ideal for families needing ample rear-seat space and trunk room, or for individuals who appreciate a smooth ride and a stylish design. Whether it's worth buying depends on the price and condition. A well-maintained LT or LTZ model with lower mileage is preferable. Given its age, buying used is the only option now. Be sure to have it inspected by a mechanic before purchasing, paying close attention to the transmission and infotainment system. If reliability is your absolute top priority, the Toyota Avalon might be a better choice, but the Impala offers a compelling blend of value and features for those willing to accept slightly higher potential maintenance costs.

Bought new in January 2014.

Bought new in January 2014. So far it's been a reliable car. It's been back to the shop twice in almost 11 years for a leaking transmission line & a emission issue. Other than two recalls it's been good. Of course, I'm only at 67,676 miles. Oh, I forgot I had to replace the front two struts. When it was wet outside while turning I would get some vibration. Dealer had a TSB on it, the cost was 1,500 dollars. But overall the car has been fairly reliable. It's been quiet, roomy, comfortable and has decent power.

stability track problems

This is a great car but after 3 years I started having problems with the stability track, I would standing still at a light or making a turn and it would stall and even loose power, this is very frightening, I took it to the dealer who charged with $2000 to fix it and less that one year it is doing it again

2014 Impalas suck

I have problems with electrical system, brake light, blinker, parking lights and taillight, stops while driving, braking pads, brake lights flash when driver is not slowing, or don't work period. Left blinker will not work when headlights are on and improperly torqued fasteners may intermediate shaft and steering or lower control arm and lower ball joint to separate

2014 Chevy Impala LT - Best Car I've owned.

Mine is a 2014 LT with the 2.5L 4Cyl. At approx 50,000 miles I had a small water pump leak that was fixed under warranty. AT approx 95,000 miles the A/C compressor locked up with the temps in the 95 - 100 degree range. I had the dealer fix this at a cost of over $1,400 to me. Overall though, it has been a very good car. Highway trips (at the speed limit) return 34 MPG which I feel is fine for this size of car and beats the EPA guestimate of 31 MPG highway. Always had the dealer maintain this car except for tires and a battery I had to replace. Hated it when Chevy announced they would no longer make it. At it's current 102,500 miles, it still runs fine. I'm retired now and I'm ready to trade it in on a new (2023) Traverse which will give me more room to haul some of my grandkids around and maybe even pull a small boat with. Inventory at this writing is pretty poor though. 8/7/2022

Terrible car, very upset, very disappointed

My 2014 has only 45,000 miles on it and I paid $24,000 for it right off the show room floor and I can't even drive it. Stability and trak light came on and reduced engine power won't go over 45 mph. Replaced the computer along with a number of different things and it's the same. Very upset, very disappointed and I don't have any more money to even replace the darn car with another one.
