The Good

The reliable V6 engine provides adequate performance for daily driving. For practical buyers, its reputation for dependability and affordable price make it a good value, while emotionally, the Impala offers a sense of security and familiarity.
The Bad
While generally reliable, the 2012 Impala has some potential weaknesses. The interior materials can feel dated and cheap compared to rivals. Analysis
What Problems Does the 2012 Chevrolet Impala Have?
Recalls for the 2012 Impala have been issued for issues ranging from ignition switch problems (related to a broader GM recall affecting many models) to potential problems with the power steering assist, though the frequency varied. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the transmission and the potential for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters. Regularly inspecting and maintaining the vehicle, addressing any issues promptly, can help mitigate some of these risks and extend the vehicle's lifespan. Consulting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website for specific recall information is always recommended.
How long will the 2012 Chevrolet Impala last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard antilock brakes (ABS), traction control, stability control, and front and side airbags. Driver-assistance features were limited, with no advanced technologies like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning available.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally favorable, with the 2012 Impala earning good overall scores. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also provided ratings, which should be consulted for detailed information on specific crash tests. Keep in mind that safety standards have evolved since 2012, so newer vehicles often offer more advanced safety technologies.

How Does the 2012 Chevrolet Impala Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?
Price-wise, the Impala was often more affordable than the Avalon but competitive with the Taurus and 300. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Avalon might be a better alternative, although it will likely cost more. The Ford Taurus offers more modern styling and technology, while the Chrysler 300 provides a more luxurious and powerful driving experience. For someone specifically seeking a large, affordable sedan, the Impala remains a reasonable choice, but exploring these alternatives is worthwhile.

Before my grandpa passed away in September 2023, he hadBefore my grandpa passed away in September 2023, he had it in his will to give me his 2012 Impala. I got his car as a Christmas present that year. Since then, I've enjoyed driving the old Impala. A car with 300 hp AND 30 mpg on the highway? Yes! Thanks, Grandpa, for your love of American cars! Thanks, Chevrolet, for making such a great car! I love how roomy my car is, how great the audio system is, and how relevant the Driver Information Center (DIC) is! I highly recommend this car to anyone.
Won't drive anything else on December 23, 2024
Well let's start with my Dad worked for GM 34 years.Well let's start with my Dad worked for GM 34 years. With 6 boys guess what company we went with. I bought my wife a used 08 Chevy Impala from a friend that owned a car lot. It had 90k miles on it. I got it for $1,500.00 a steal. She still have that car today and it has 248,365 miles on it now and believe it or not it runs the same as it did when I bought it. I thought it was time to get my wife a new car and she said, "no thank" this car had never set her down. I did the maintenance on all of my vehicles. She told me she would drive another Chevy Impala. So I got her the 2012 LT FLEX from a private owner. This car is wicked. With the after market sports parts. I can only imagine how many miles she'll put on this one. Guess who drives the 08". It will have a 1/4 of a million on it by the end of January 2025.LOL you have to get one, or just drive on to get. Love the product. My wife drove a stick when I met her. She says it fell like she's shifting gears without the work. That 6 speed transmission shifts so flawlessly. She won't drive anything other than a Chevy. She wants an El Camino. LOL Γ°ΕΈΛβ .

Beautiful CarI was 10 years old and always wanted a Chevy Impala. I had a 2003 model prior to this one. I bought this 2012 Chevy Impala LT from CarMax. I love the power it has. It's fast!!! The fuel economy is OK I guess. I love the automatic start feature. Before I leave for work I hit the LOCK button twice then hold the circle button on the key fob and it starts right up. It doesn't take long to warm up so all I have to do is turn the key and go. The car shifts like a dream, it shifts like a 6 speed manual but it's an automatic. The interior space it OK not crazy about it but the trunk is big. Mine also has Bluetooth connectivity I hooked my phone up to it so now I get hands free calling. If I have my phone with me and the Bluetooth is on it automatically connects for me. I hit it button on the steering wheel and say a phone number it dials the number I say. It has cruise control. Overall a smooth quiet ride and very reliable. I just love this car. The only problem it gave me so far was the tapping noise from the dash which turned out to be the HVAC door blend actuator which I fixed myself. Thanks Chevrolet for this great product. Hopefully you bring the Impala back.

A very reliable sedanI bought this 2012 Chevy Impala used at a great price in 2019 when it had 92, 000 km. It has an old style classic, smooth ride. The body and chassis are solid with very little rust for a 10 year old car. I have performed only normal maintenance servicing on this car. All components are solid. Acceleration when passing is awesome. I drove across the USA recently in this car with ease.

I OWNED THIS ACTUAL PA. CAR.This car @ West Herr i personally owned. Just turned 36,000 miles, I purchased it from an 89 year old that no longer drove from Southern Pa. This car just had brand new tires installed and rustproof oil treatment done. Had NO INTENTION OF SELLING. When stopping by the dealership I found the Corvette of my dreams. I bought it. So to pull the mobey together i traded the 2012 Impala in. My last one had 134,000 no major issues, these cars are so reliable and get fantastic gas mileage. The West Herr dealership is Far above all others. 5-Stars, Nice size, great mileage, Safe full size car. 3M

One flawOur Impala has a knocking behind the dash. It even happens with the car off and the keys out. It is quite loud! Don't know what to do!

Very reliable except keeping air in tires in winteMy only thing that I'm upset about it is it has no Bluetooth in it. Something I wished I would have known. I guess my biggest concern with this car is the rust under my front doors. I purchased it when I was in 2016 and at that time I've requested them to fix it. They didn't they spray-painted it. With that said, a 2016 should not be rusted anywhere.
