The Chevrolet Impala, a full-size sedan, has a long and storied history in American automotive culture. The 2019 model represents the tenth generation (2014-2020). Key trims include the LS, LT, and Premier. The Impala stood out for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and user-friendly technology. New, the pricing ranged from approximately $28,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim and options. Its roomy cabin made it a popular choice for families and fleet vehicles.
The Good

The 2019 Impala offers a blend of practical and emotional appeal. Its strong V6 engine delivers confident performance, while the spacious cabin provides exceptional comfort. Its classic, understated design remains appealing. The Impala's reliability is generally good, and it offers a good value proposition for buyers seeking a large, comfortable sedan.

The Bad

While generally reliable, potential weaknesses of the 2019 Impala include the four-cylinder engine's lackluster performance compared to the V6. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system. Watch out for potential transmission issues, especially in higher-mileage examples, and thoroughly inspect the electronics. The rear visibility can also be limited.

What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Impala Have?

The 2019 Chevrolet Impala generally enjoys decent reliability, but some issues have been reported. Infotainment system glitches, such as freezing or slow response times, are common. Transmission issues, particularly hard shifting or slipping, can occur in higher-mileage vehicles equipped with the 3.6L V6.
Electrical problems, including issues with the sensors and warning lights, have also been documented. Check engine lights are sometimes triggered by sensor malfunctions.
While not widespread, some owners have reported issues with the power steering system. Recalls for the 2019 Impala were issued related to potential issues with the electronic park lock lever which could allow the vehicle to roll away if not in park.
Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the longevity of the transmission and the potential for electrical system gremlins as the car ages. Regular maintenance and addressing minor issues promptly can help mitigate these risks.

How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Impala last?

With regular maintenance, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Proper oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor repairs promptly are crucial for longevity.
Long-term durability can be affected by climate and driving conditions. Areas with harsh winters and road salt may experience increased corrosion. Weaknesses over time often include the degradation of suspension components, wear and tear on the interior materials, and the aforementioned potential for transmission issues at higher mileages.

2019 Chevrolet Impala Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Chevrolet Impala ranged from around $28,000 for the base LS trim to over $40,000 for a fully equipped Premier model. As a used vehicle, prices vary significantly based on condition, mileage, and trim, typically ranging from $15,000 to $25,000.
The Impala has experienced typical depreciation for its class. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (accident history, maintenance records), trim level (Premier models hold value better), and location. Cars in popular colors and with desirable options tend to command higher prices. Market demand also plays a role; fluctuations in gas prices can impact the demand for large sedans.

2019 Chevrolet Impala Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Chevrolet Impala is relatively economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the 2.5L engine, though the V6 consumes more fuel. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, is affordable. Repair costs are generally average, with readily available parts. However, potential transmission repairs on the V6 model could be costly. Overall, the Impala presents a manageable ownership experience.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Impala Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2019 Chevrolet Impala competes with other full-size sedans like the Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, and Chrysler 300. In terms of performance, the Impala's V6 is competitive, though the Avalon offers a more refined driving experience. The Maxima prioritizes sporty handling. Regarding features, the Impala's infotainment system is user-friendly, but the Avalon and Maxima often offer more advanced technology.
Reliability is a strong suit for the Avalon, generally considered more dependable than the Impala. The Chrysler 300 offers a more luxurious feel but can be less reliable. Price-wise, the Impala often presents a good value proposition.
Alternatives to the Impala include the Toyota Avalon (for superior reliability and refinement), the Nissan Maxima (for sportier handling and style), and the Kia Cadenza (for a blend of luxury and value). The Chrysler 300 is another option if you prefer a more muscular design. Whether an alternative is "better" depends on individual priorities; the Impala remains a solid choice for those prioritizing space and comfort at a reasonable price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Chevrolet Impala a Good Sedan?

The 2019 Chevrolet Impala is ideal for buyers seeking a spacious, comfortable full-size sedan at a reasonable price. It's particularly well-suited for families needing ample rear-seat room and trunk space, and for those who appreciate a smooth, quiet ride. Whether it's worth buying depends on the used market price and condition. A well-maintained LT or Premier model with the V6 engine offers the best combination of features and performance. A thorough inspection is essential, paying close attention to the transmission and electronics. If reliability is a top priority, consider the Toyota Avalon, but the Impala remains a compelling choice if you value space and comfort over ultimate reliability.

Run away and buy a Toyota.

Just don’t buy this car. I bought a 2019 Impala in May of 2020. It had 30,000 miles on it by the time I acquired it. After having it for a few months, the auto start/stop feature (which you can’t disable on the LT model) became defective. In fact, when stopped at a stop light the vehicle shutdown. After releasing the brake thinking it would start it again, it cranked several times and all the lights in the interior started flashing. Dealership never could figure out what was causing it. At 52,000 miles the check engine light came on. Took it in for service and was told that my fuel pump was malfunctioning. If that wasn’t the worse of it, at 64,000 miles I came home one night from work. Get into the vehicle the next morning and I get a message displayed on the info that the engine power had been reduced. Started to drive to work and the stabilitrak light comes on. I’ve had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I always have it serviced every 3-5 thousand miles and yet something major always happens to this vehicle. Your best bet is to stay away. Don’t let the niceness of the vehicle fool you. By all means it’s a very nice car inside and out. But that touch screen radio doesn’t make my tires roll. Piece of cow xxxx is worth more than this thing.

Good value

This is a vehicle with a lot of room, nice features at an acceptable price. The styling is horrible though. The Cadillac XTS looks much better. In addition through the entire run of this model no styling updates were made.
