The Good
The 2001 Impala offered a blend of advantages. Its reliable 3.8L V6 engine delivered adequate performance for daily driving. The spacious cabin and comfortable ride appealed to practical buyers seeking a family-friendly car. Its affordable price made it an attractive value proposition, while the Impala name evoked a sense of nostalgia.
The Bad
Common weaknesses of the 2001 Impala included potential issues with the intake manifold gasket, which could lead to coolant leaks. Analysis
What Problems Does the 2001 Chevrolet Impala Have?
Other long-term reliability concerns included rust, particularly in areas that used road salt. Interior components, especially the plastic trim, were prone to cracking and wear. Electrical issues, such as problems with the power windows and door locks, were also reported.
While specific recalls related directly to the 2001 model year might be limited, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any safety recalls that may have been issued. Early model years of this generation Impala (2000-2002) tended to have a higher incidence of reported problems compared to later years (2003-2005), likely due to design flaws that were subsequently addressed.
How long will the 2001 Chevrolet Impala last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) as an option or standard on the LS trim, and side-impact door beams. Optional features included traction control.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were generally favorable. The Impala typically received good scores in frontal and side-impact crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted tests, and the Impala generally performed adequately in their evaluations. The 2001 Impala was not equipped with modern safety technologies like electronic stability control or advanced airbag systems, reflecting the safety standards of its era. It relied on basic structural design and occupant restraint systems to protect passengers in the event of a collision.

How Does the 2001 Chevrolet Impala Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of features, the Impala was generally on par with its competitors, offering a similar range of options. However, its interior materials were often considered less luxurious than those found in the Avalon or some versions of the Concorde.
Alternatives to the 2001 Impala include a well-maintained Toyota Avalon for greater reliability and refinement, or a Buick LeSabre, which shared the same platform as the Impala but often offered a more comfortable ride and slightly more upscale features. If budget is the primary concern, the Impala remains a decent option, but be prepared for potential maintenance needs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2001 Chevrolet Impala a Good Sedan?

It was okay! The car was front wheel drive and wasn't great in snow even with good tires. It was comfortable driving and I sold it in 2009. But the car started to have issues with the new owner after two years.

I LOVE my Impala.I bought my 2001 Impala in 2000, right off showroom floor. It has 238,000 miles on it and still runs great. It has a great engine - my mechanic says it’s the best engine the Impala could have. I’ve always maintained it well, kept it in garage and allowed no one else to drive it. Had all regular maintenance at dealer while under warranty but since then, I’ve used a private mechanic. I’ve rented a new Impala but don’t like the design as well as my 2001. I have to get a new car for practical reasons. How much longer can a 19 & 1/2 yr old car keep going? And as a 67 yr old woman with “0†mechanical ability I need a car that I won’t have to worry about. I wish I didn’t need to get a new one. I live on a fixed income and don’t want a car payment.

first carThis was probably my second favorite vehicle purchase. This car was an auction find and lasted me about 3 years (with very little maintenance kept up). It ran great, drove great, had an ?okay? mpg overall. I loved it, if only it had better mileage & more adjustability in the seats (seat sat down kind of low to the floorboard)
