Rating: 4.69
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2010 Dodge Challenger is a retro-styled muscle car that harkens back to its iconic 1970s predecessor. It's a 2-door coupe, offering a blend of classic design and modern performance. Key trims include the SE, R/T, and SRT8. Original pricing ranged approximately from $22,000 to $42,000. The Challenger stands out for its bold styling, powerful engine options, and comfortable ride, making it a popular choice for those seeking a modern muscle car experience.
The Good

The 2010 Dodge Challenger offers powerful performance, especially in R/T and SRT8 trims. Its classic design appeals to emotional buyers, while the comfortable ride and spacious interior offer practical advantages. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides decent value for its performance and features. Reliability is generally good, contributing to lower long-term ownership costs.

The Bad

Some 2010 Dodge Challenger owners have reported issues with the electrical system, including problems with the radio and power windows. Also, the car's large size can make it challenging to maneuver in tight spaces and fuel economy can be poor, particularly with the larger engines. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters, so check carefully.

What Problems Does the 2010 Dodge Challenger Have?

The 2010 Dodge Challenger, while generally reliable, has some frequently reported problems. Electrical issues, such as problems with the radio, power windows, and occasionally the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), are common complaints. Some owners have also reported issues with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting. Rust, especially in areas with road salt, is another potential concern, particularly around the wheel wells and undercarriage.

While specific recalls for the 2010 model year may vary depending on the source and timing of information, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any active recalls related to safety or emissions. Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the electrical system and potential rust issues. Early model years of the Challenger (2008-2010) sometimes had more reported electrical glitches compared to later years. Thorough pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended, focusing on these potential problem areas.

How long will the 2010 Dodge Challenger last?

A well-maintained 2010 Dodge Challenger can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. With regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs, owners often report 10-15 years of reliable service. Long-term durability largely depends on maintenance habits and driving conditions. Weaknesses over time may include suspension components wearing out, particularly the bushings and ball joints. Electrical gremlins, as mentioned previously, can also appear as the car ages. Rust prevention is critical in prolonging the car's lifespan, especially in colder climates.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Dodge Challenger offered a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included a CD player, auxiliary audio input, and power accessories. Higher trims featured upgraded audio systems, available navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. It included standard antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control. Optional features included rear parking sensors.

Safety features comprised front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags. The 2010 Dodge Challenger received good crash-test ratings from the NHTSA. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings may vary depending on the specific test and year of evaluation, so it's best to consult their website for detailed results. Overall, the 2010 Challenger provided adequate safety and convenience features for its era, but lacks the advanced driver-assistance technologies found in newer cars.

2010 Dodge Challenger Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Dodge Challenger ranged from approximately $22,000 for the base SE to $42,000+ for the SRT8. Current used market prices vary significantly depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but typically range from $10,000 to $25,000. The SRT8 models command a higher premium due to their performance capabilities. Depreciation has been moderate, with the Challenger holding its value reasonably well, especially the higher performance trims. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, mileage, accident history, and the presence of desirable options like the Hemi engine.

2010 Dodge Challenger Cost of Ownership

The 2010 Dodge Challenger can be moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums are typically higher than average, especially for the R/T and SRT8 models due to their performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, particularly with the V8 engines. Maintenance costs are average, but repairs can be expensive, especially for specialized components. Long-term ownership costs will depend heavily on maintenance habits, but it's generally not the most economical vehicle in its class.

2010 Dodge Challenger Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Dodge Challenger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Dodge Challenger Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2010 Dodge Challenger's key rivals included the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. In terms of performance, the Challenger offered strong engines, but the Mustang often provided sharper handling. The Camaro had a more aggressive and modern design compared to the Challenger's retro styling. Feature-wise, the three were relatively comparable, although the specific features varied by trim level.

Reliability-wise, the Mustang and Camaro are perceived to be somewhat more reliable by some sources, but the Challenger has a strong following. Price points were similar across the three models, although the Challenger SRT8 could be more expensive than comparable trims of the Mustang and Camaro.

Alternatives to the 2010 Challenger include the Hyundai Genesis Coupe for a more modern and sporty feel, or a later model year of the Mustang or Camaro for updated features and potentially improved reliability. If raw power is the priority, and the budget allows, a newer Challenger with a larger Hemi engine (e.g., 392 or Hellcat) might be a better choice. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual preferences regarding styling, performance, and features.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Dodge Challenger a Good Coupe?

The 2010 Dodge Challenger is ideal for those seeking a retro-styled muscle car with a comfortable ride and powerful engine options. It's a good buy if you appreciate its classic design and don't prioritize fuel efficiency or the latest technology. It's best to buy used, as new models offer significantly improved features and performance. The R/T trim offers a good balance of performance and value. Before purchasing, thoroughly inspect the car for electrical issues, rust, and any signs of transmission problems. If well-maintained, a 2010 Challenger can provide a fun and enjoyable driving experience.

The car's engine purrs like a powerful subdued cat

Best vehicle I've owned in terms of power, comfort and reliability. It is a coupe so while the backseat passengers cram their legs a little there is plenty of room for whom there should be: the driver and his best friend or his significant other. The manual transmission allows the driver to control the purring of the wild cat trapped under the hood, or to let it roar like a hunting tiger whenever power is needed. The car has been babied and kept in the garage and only taken out on weekends, thus accounting for the low miles. Yes, the 93000 miles on the dashboard are original folks!!
