The 2023 Dodge Challenger, a modern muscle car with a retro soul, traces its lineage back to the iconic Challengers of the 1970s. Available as a coupe, it offers a blend of performance and classic styling. Key trims include the SXT, GT, R/T, Scat Pack, and various Hellcat models. The pricing ranges from around $30,000 to well over $80,000, depending on the trim and options. Its powerful engine options and bold design make it a popular choice for enthusiasts.
The Good

The 2023 Challenger boasts impressive performance, particularly in the higher trims. Its bold, retro design appeals emotionally, while the comfortable interior and relatively spacious trunk offer practicality. While not the most fuel-efficient, it delivers value through its performance-per-dollar ratio, satisfying both the desire for power and the need for a usable daily driver.

The Bad

The 2023 Challenger's weaknesses include its size and weight, which can impact handling. Fuel economy is poor, especially with the higher-performance engines. Rear visibility can also be challenging. Watch out for potential issues with the infotainment system and ensure proper maintenance, particularly for models with forced induction.

Analysis

What Problems Does the 2023 Dodge Challenger Have?

While the 2023 Dodge Challenger generally enjoys a reputation for robust mechanicals, some frequently reported problems and potential long-term reliability concerns exist. Issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, such as freezing or glitches, are sometimes reported. Some owners have mentioned minor electrical problems, like sensor malfunctions. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt, so rustproofing is advisable.

Specific to the higher-performance Hellcat models, proper maintenance is crucial. The extreme power output puts significant stress on components, requiring regular oil changes and inspections. Potential issues can arise with the supercharger, transmission, and cooling system if neglected. Recalls are relatively common across the Dodge lineup, so it's essential to check for any open recalls on a specific VIN. Long-term reliability largely depends on driving habits and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule. Owners should be vigilant about addressing any unusual noises or performance changes promptly to prevent more significant issues down the road. While the platform is relatively mature, higher mileage examples, especially those that have been heavily modified or tracked, may require more frequent repairs.

How long will the 2023 Dodge Challenger last?

With proper maintenance, a 2023 Dodge Challenger can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items are critical. Long-term durability can be affected by rust, especially in colder climates. The suspension components may require attention over time due to the car's weight and performance capabilities. Higher-performance models may experience increased wear and tear on drivetrain components, requiring more frequent maintenance. Overall, the Challenger is a durable platform, but longevity depends heavily on how well it's cared for.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 Dodge Challenger features the Uconnect infotainment system, known for its user-friendliness. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Higher trims offer larger touchscreens and premium audio systems (e.g., Harman Kardon).

Driver-assistance features vary by trim. Available options include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning. However, it's important to note that the Challenger is not as comprehensively equipped with advanced safety tech as some newer vehicles in its class.

Safety features include standard airbags, stability control, and traction control. As of my last update, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) crash-test ratings for the 2023 Challenger may vary. It is recommended to check their official websites for the most up-to-date information. Optional features include a sunroof, navigation, and performance data recorders. While functional, the Challenger's tech and safety features are not its strongest selling points, particularly when compared to more modern competitors.

2023 Dodge Challenger Prices and Market Value

The 2023 Dodge Challenger's new price ranged from approximately $30,000 for the base SXT to over $80,000 for the higher-performance Hellcat models. Used market prices vary depending on mileage, condition, and trim. Expect depreciation to be higher on the higher-performance models due to increased running costs. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, service history, and whether it has been modified. Limited-edition models or those with desirable options tend to hold their value better. The end of Challenger production may also influence used prices.

2023 Dodge Challenger Cost of Ownership

The 2023 Dodge Challenger is generally costly to own, particularly the higher-performance models. Insurance premiums are higher due to the car's performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the V8 engines. Maintenance and repair costs are average, but specialized parts for Hellcat models can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs will depend on driving habits and maintenance, but owners should budget for higher-than-average expenses, especially compared to more economical vehicles.

2023 Dodge Challenger Insurance

Insurance for a 2023 Dodge Challenger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2023 Dodge Challenger Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2023 Dodge Challenger competes with the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. In terms of performance, the Challenger offers comparable power, especially in higher trims, but can feel heavier and less nimble than the Mustang and Camaro. Feature-wise, the Challenger's tech is dated compared to the newer infotainment systems found in its rivals. Reliability is similar across the board, but the Challenger's larger size gives it an advantage in rear seat space and trunk room. Price-wise, the Challenger offers a good value proposition for its performance, but fuel economy suffers.

Alternatives to the Challenger include the Ford Mustang, which offers sharper handling, and the Chevrolet Camaro, which is known for its track performance. For those seeking more practicality, a performance sedan like the Dodge Charger (related to the Challenger) or even a luxury coupe like the BMW 4 Series could be considered, though they come at a higher price point. Each competitor has its strengths, so the best choice depends on individual priorities. For raw power and retro styling, the Challenger stands out, but those prioritizing handling and modern tech might prefer the Mustang or Camaro.

Ranks #30 Coupe

Final Verdict: Is the 2023 Dodge Challenger a Good Coupe?

The 2023 Dodge Challenger is ideal for those seeking a powerful, retro-styled muscle car with a comfortable interior and usable trunk space. It's worth buying if you prioritize performance and classic design over the latest technology and fuel efficiency. Buying used can be a good option for saving money, but thoroughly inspect the car for any signs of abuse or neglect, particularly with higher-performance trims. The R/T and Scat Pack offer a good balance of performance and value. Consider a new model if you desire the latest features and factory warranty, but be aware of the higher price tag. The end of the Challenger's production run may also impact long-term values and collectibility.

This Challenger Hellcat is a little uncomfortable meaning

This Challenger Hellcat is a little uncomfortable meaning its tight for legroom but 717 horsepower makes it fun with a 6.2 supercharged hemi engine. It looks so beatiful 10/10 would recommended.

Had always liked the current Challenger.

Had always liked the current Challenger. When the local dealers heavily discounted the 23s they had, I located one and bought it. I knew what I was getting, so no real surprises or major disappointments. My only nitpick would be that my car did not come with nav. I hate depending on cell based maps. But hey, I'm old enough to remember how to use a paper map. The performance pages option really does it for me. The cockpit has a great balance of old and new too. I would not have bought the car as a commuter vehicle. It is a great getaway car!

Grew up owning a few 440 magnum Mopars while in high-school and absolutely loved them. 50 years later, a lifelong dream occured and now a proud owner of a Plum Crazy "23" SXT Blacktop last call and couldn't be happier. As soon as I sat in it, drove it, the original Mopar presence was back. Love this icon!

2023 Challeger GT

I purchased a 2023 Challenger GT on February 24th this year, I really love driving this car but try not to drive every day to work because 90 miles/day. Got the F8 green color and I loved it. V6 is good enough for me on daily commute. I did some upgrade from a factory exhaust to the MF axle-back exhaust with dual tips, it sounds great really like it a lot. also replaced with K&N air-intake.

Great value and roomy enough for the kids

I purchased a 2023 GT challenger AWD. The car has the v6. I was surprised with the power of the vehicle. Some reviews started under powered however I don't see that being true. For a family daily driver its is a perfect vehicle.

Exceeded my expectations!

Purchased a last call 2023 Challenger GT and I love it. This car is such a fun and enjoyable ride. It's spacious for a 2 door and has a huge trunk space. I'm shocked how good on Gas it is as well. The only negative thing is that I wish it came with safety features like blind spot monitoring and a 360 camera.
