The 2013 Dodge Challenger is a modern muscle car with roots dating back to the iconic Challengers of the 1970s. Its classic coupe body style and retro design set it apart. Model years for this generation ran from 2008 onward, capturing the spirit of the original. Key trims include the SXT, R/T, and SRT8. The pricing range in 2013 varied from around $26,000 to over $45,000 depending on the trim and options. Its blend of vintage aesthetics and modern performance is a major reason for its popularity.
The Good

The 2013 Dodge Challenger boasts strong performance, especially in R/T and SRT8 trims. Its comfortable ride and spacious interior appeal to practical buyers, while its retro design and powerful engine options cater to emotional buyers. Though not the most fuel-efficient, it offers a compelling blend of style and power for the price.

The Bad

The 2013 Dodge Challenger's weaknesses include its large size and weight, which can impact handling. Fuel economy, especially in higher-performance models, isn't great. Some owners have reported issues with electrical components and the infotainment system. Watch out for signs of excessive wear, particularly in higher-mileage examples.

What Problems Does the 2013 Dodge Challenger Have?

The 2013 Dodge Challenger, like many vehicles, has some frequently reported problems. Common issues include problems with the Uconnect infotainment system, such as freezing or lagging. Some owners have reported electrical issues, including problems with the window regulators and door locks. There have been reports of the 5.7L Hemi V8 experiencing the "Hemi tick," a valve train noise that could indicate wear or a more serious problem. Early models of this generation (2008-2010) were known for suspension issues, but these were largely addressed in later years, though some owners still report concerns.

Recalls for the 2013 model have included concerns about the fuel pump relay causing stalling and potential fire hazards. Always check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information.

Long-term reliability can be a concern, especially with higher-mileage examples. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial. Paying close attention to potential warning signs and addressing issues promptly can help extend the life of the vehicle.

How long will the 2013 Dodge Challenger last?

With good maintenance, a 2013 Dodge Challenger can easily reach 150,000-200,000 miles or more. Many owners report getting 10-15 years of service from their Challengers. Long-term durability depends heavily on maintenance habits. Key weaknesses over time include potential rust in areas prone to road salt, wear on suspension components, and potential issues with the aging infotainment system. Regular fluid changes, brake maintenance, and attention to suspension components are essential for long-term reliability. Preventative maintenance is crucial to avoid costly repairs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Dodge Challenger features a decent array of built-in tech for its time. Standard features include a basic audio system, air conditioning, and keyless entry. Higher trims offer the Uconnect infotainment system with a touchscreen display, satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Optional features included a premium audio system, navigation, and heated seats.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. Available features included rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring on some trims.

Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional features such as adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning were not available.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA generally show good performance, with overall ratings typically ranging from four to five stars, depending on the specific test. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings vary; check their website for specific details regarding the 2013 model year. Keep in mind safety technology has improved vastly since 2013 so relative to a newer car, the Challenger will be lacking in some safety categories.

2013 Dodge Challenger Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2013 Dodge Challenger ranged from around $26,000 for the base SXT to over $45,000 for a fully-equipped SRT8. Current used market prices vary depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but generally range from $12,000 to $25,000.

Depreciation has been moderate, with Challengers holding their value relatively well due to their iconic status and strong demand. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, service history, and trim level. Low-mileage examples and well-maintained SRT8 models command the highest prices. The classic styling and enduring appeal contribute to its resale value.

2013 Dodge Challenger Cost of Ownership

The 2013 Dodge Challenger is moderately costly to own. Insurance can be higher, especially for R/T and SRT8 trims due to their performance capabilities. Fuel costs are significant, particularly with the V8 engines. Maintenance costs are average, but repairs can be expensive, especially for specialized parts. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits. While not the most economical, its unique style and performance make it worthwhile for enthusiasts willing to accept the added expenses.

2013 Dodge Challenger Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Dodge Challenger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Dodge Challenger Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2013 Dodge Challenger's key rivals include the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. In terms of performance, the Mustang and Camaro offer similar horsepower figures, with the Mustang generally considered more agile and the Camaro having slightly sharper handling. The Challenger excels in ride comfort and interior space. Feature-wise, all three offer comparable technology for the model year.

Reliability is a mixed bag; all three have their potential issues. The Challenger's reliability is generally considered similar to the Camaro. Price-wise, the Challenger is often competitively priced.

Alternatives to the Challenger include the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which offers a more modern design and potentially better reliability, though it lacks the retro charm. If performance is the top priority, the Mustang GT or Camaro SS might be slightly better choices for their superior handling. However, if a comfortable ride and classic muscle car styling are desired, the Challenger is a strong contender. A well-maintained Mustang GT or Camaro SS from the same year might be a slightly better all-around choice for some buyers due to better handling and potentially slightly better reliability, but it is ultimately a matter of personal preference.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Dodge Challenger a Good Vehicle?

The 2013 Dodge Challenger is ideal for those who appreciate classic muscle car styling, comfortable cruising, and ample interior space. It's worth buying if you're looking for a retro-inspired coupe with decent performance and don't mind the relatively high fuel consumption. Buying used is a more sensible option given the depreciation. The R/T trim offers a good balance of performance and value. Ensure a thorough inspection before purchasing any used Challenger, paying attention to potential electrical issues and maintenance history. If practicality and nimble handling are top priorities, consider alternatives. However, for sheer style and a satisfying rumble, the Challenger delivers.

I purchased my 2013 R/T used in March 2017.

I purchased my 2013 R/T used in March 2017. I've put over 90,000 miles on it in addition to the 35,000 that were on it when I got it. Other than 2 recalls performed, all I've done to it is routine maintenance - oil changes, new tires, etc. It's reliable, comfortable, has plenty of pep, and is a fun car to drive. I've now had it almost 8 years. If I feel the need to replace it, I will track down a low mileage 2013 or 2014 R/T.

Best Automobile out of my previous 50 +

In my humble opinion ,this is as close to perfection as you can get. Rides like a dream, has plenty of punch right off the lot. Mine is a R/T Plus 5.7 ltr 6 speed manual.....man, now that's driving ! I added a little bit more performance with a PCM ( engine computer) upgrade using Diablo trinity 2 tuner......now I really need to watch my speed... highly recommend Diablo to provide extremely simple installation and a marked improvement in both horsepower and torque

I have had this car over 5 years and it still runs well with over 200,000 miles on it. I have never had any major issues with this car.

Most fun I've had driving a factory stock

I was attracted to the beautiful shape and speed of the Challenger. Found a 2013, black and purple SXT. Was slightly disappointed with the slow response off the line, but a plug in throttle override took care of that. When you hear the engine rev, you'd swear it was a V8 with performance parts. The down side is theres been quite a lot of issues that shouldn't happen within 3 years-electrical, calipers constantly freezing, rust is out of control, clear coat peeling everywhere, alternator going out, and air bags always malfunctioning. In my opinion its expensive price tag and wicked high maintenance almost makes it not worth it.

Never got so many compliments on a car

Over all a pretty good car just a few things on the interior that had to be glued when I 1st purchased it. Have had it 3 years still get compliments, but on the mechanical side it needs work and I dont trust the dealer, I want my car to run perfect, you would think if you take you car to the dealer, everything will be fine, thats why you go to the dealer.

Love my challenger

This car is perfect for me. Aftermarket products allow customization to suit the individual. I have asked to be buried in this car as it will probably be the last one I own.

Still in love!

2013 R/T with 6 speed manual transmission bought new. I don't show out as much as I used to with it (holding the brake down and holding the traction control button to completely disable the ETC system and then smoking out the tires) but I still can! She's a heavy girl, so, no drag racing, but still plenty of power to push you back in the seat at full throttle. Has over 100,000 miles, but recently took 3 friends from central Arkansas to southern Texas and back in comfort and style with no complaints of scooting the seat up or pulling over to stretch their legs all and staying at 22mpg. Only change I've made is a more aggressive exhaust system, but the cabin still remains remarkably quiet. Rear visibility/blindspots can be an issue and I can deal without the Ò€œfeatureÒ€ that will slip you from 1st gear into 4th if you're in a certain rpm zone when you shift, but aside from that, kept up with regular maintenance it's in for the long haul mechanically as it is with its curb appeal...I still get compliments when I stop for gas.
